1 pulled back to meet her gaze, my thumb tracing along her jawline. “You’re driving me absolutely insane, Hazel.”
“You and Chloe share quite a bond,” I observed.
I stood and lifted her into my arms, her legs wrapping around my waist as I carried her toward my bedroom, both of us ready to surrender to what had been building between us all day.
After hours of sifting through financial documents, the numbers began blurring together on the pages. The afternoon sun had faded to early evening shadows across my shoulders ached from hunching over spreadsheets, and Hazel
office floor. My looked equally drained from our marathon session of investigating the company’s compromised accounts.
“Hazel, relax. Leo and I are having a blast,” Chloe’s voice carried through the phone speaker. “We’ll grab dinner, watch some movies, and crash early. Do your work, but please, for the love of all that’s holy, make a move on your boss.”
I watched her tuck a strand of hair behind her ear, a gesture I was beginning to recognize as nervous habit. When she noticed me staring, her smile faltered slightly.
She looked up at me with those beautiful eyes, and I saw the moment her walls crumbled.
“Absolutely, we have the entire night ahead of us,” she said with a playful wink, moving toward the leather couch in my office. “Come on, this couch looks incredibly comfortable.”
Hazel nodded, stretching her arms above her head in a way that made her dress ride up slightly. I forced myself to look away as Damian’s voice came through my phone, updating me on security measures he’d implemented around the building.
“Alright, you win. Give my baby a hug from mommy,” Hazel said, ending the call with a smile that made my pulse quicken.
I smiled at her perceptiveness and gestured toward the small dining area I’d had catered. “Let’s eat, woman. I need you properly fueled for what’s ahead.”

We settled into conversation over dinner, the formal boundaries of boss and employee dissolving with each shared story. She told me about her decision to pursue international trade, described Leo’s personality quirks and favorite games. I sensed her tension whenever the topic skirted close to Leo’s father, but I didn’t push. Whatever secrets she carried, she’d share them when ready.
“Hazel, honey, even workaholics need two–hour breaks. Besides, don’t let my matchmaking efforts go to waste. I spent serious time picking out that dress for you.” Chloe cackled. “Trust me, Leo and I are having the time of our lives. You know how much I adore that little guy.”
She responded with equal hunger, her hands tangling in my hair as soft sounds escaped her throat. I could feel her heartbeat racing against my chest, matching the frantic rhythm of my own. My hands explored the curves of her body through the thin fabric of her dress, and she arched into my touch.
Hazel’s cheeks flushed pink. “Chl, I’m being serious here. We have mountains of work to get through.”

“When have I ever been able to resist you? One touch from you and I lose all rational thought,” she whispered, pulling me down for another kiss. “I want you too, Liam. Mor than I should.”
Before she could respond, I captured her mouth in a kiss that conveyed ounce c
desire I’d been suppressing. She melted against me immediately, her arms winding around my neck as she pulled me closer. I eased her down onto the couch, our bodies aligning perfectly as the kiss deepened.
“We should take a break,” I announced, pushing back from the conference table where we’d spread out bank statements and transaction records. “Get some food in us befor we tackle the rest of this mess.”

“I’ve been fighting the urge all day to tear that dress right off your body,” I whispered against her ear, feeling her shiver beneath my touch. “Every time I thought I had control, Damian would interrupt us again.”

handle the rest alone.
“You’re incredibly beautiful, I murmured, the words escaping before I could stop
them.
While I handled the call, Hazel stepped away to check on her son. I couldn’t help but overhear fragments of her conversation with Chloe, her voice softening whenever she mentioned the boy. The maternal tenderness in her tone stirred something protective in my chest.
Liam’s POV
She shook her head firmly. “Two people will cut the time in half. Besides, Leo has a godmother who spoils him rotten and loves having him all to herself.”

“I want to bedroom and show you exactly how much I want you,” I said. my voice rough with need. “I know you feel this too, Hazel. Stop overthinking this and stay with me tonight.”
She settled onto the couch, and I couldn’t resist moving closer. The scent of her perfume filled my senses as I leaned over her, my knee finding purchase on the cushion beside her hip. My hand found the curve of her neck as I pressed my lips to her earlobe.
“Hazel, can we extend this break a little longer? My brain feels like mush,” I admitted, rubbing my temples where a headache was forming.
