“Alright, shorty, what kind of trouble are you trying to drag me into now?”
We both burst into laughter and nodded in confirmation.
“That manipulative idiot Adrian is orchestrating the whole thing. I overheard him on a phone call with those two bastards carlier. He instructed them to arrive early and wait somewhere out of sight so I wouldn’t spot them. Then, when we leave for our lunch break, they’re planning to follow us to whatever restaurant we choose and corner us there. They’re banking on the fact that we won’t want to cause a public scene,” Chloe explained, her voice growing more irritated with each word. “They’re going to play it off like some amazing coincidence, which means we can’t even threaten them with harassment charges.”
“You understand me so perfectly!”
Scarlett quickly outlined our situation, explaining that we were dealing with some persistent
guys who wouldn’t take no for an answer, but she kept the details vague. She simply said we needed to teach them a lesson about respecting boundaries.
The morning dragged on as I sat at my desk, half–listening to Scarlett’s animated conversation with Morris about her brother’s nightclub.
“I always miss you, brother! But today I really need you to bring some of your friends along.”
For the first time in days, I found myself genuinely laughing at their expressions. We all high–fived each other in celebration of our upcoming counterattack.
“You are absolutely shameless, shorty. But you know what? We’d be more than happy to help you ladies out, and we’ll get the added bonus of having lunch with three gorgeous women. I’ll call the crew, and we’ll swing by your office at noon to pick you up.”
“Actually, brother, I think it would be much more effective if we meet you at the restaurant. But you guys need to already be there when we arrive, looking like you’ve been there for a while.”

“You’re formulating a plan, aren’t you?” Chloe asked with growing excitement, and Scarlett’s grin confirmed it.
“I just want to have lunch with my favorite brother today!”
“Boss, your wife is going to absolutely adore my brother’s place. You absolutely have to take her there this weekend, Scarlett gushed, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm.
The anticipation of turning the tables on them sent a thrill through me that I hadn’t. felt since this whole mess began.
Scarlett’s eyebrows shot up. “What exactly do you mean by ambush?”
“Are you actually missing me, or is this part of whatever scheme you’re cooking up?”
“Of course, Chloe. Go right ahead. They’re currently trying to persuade me that my wife needs to experience Scarlett’s brother’s bar,” Morris replied with his characteristic good humor.
“You are absolutely diabolical!” Chloe said, her smile stretching across her entire face. “And I love every second of it!”
When lunchtime finally arrived, we gathered our things and walked out of the building with perfect composure, as if we hadn’t a care in the world. Chloe had already texted us with intelligence from the receptionist, confirming that Liam and Damian were positioned at the gift shop directly across the street, probably thinking they were being incredibly clever and subtle.
“So essentially, you and your girlfriends want to use me and my crew as props in whatever revenge plot you’ve devised?”
I could practically see the wheels turning in her mind, and apparently so could Chloe. Hazel’s POV
Chloe appeared suddenly, weaving between our desks with an urgency that
immediately caught our attention. Her face was flushed, and she looked like she was bursting with important news.
Scarlett seized the opportunity. “Seriously, boss, just give me the word and I’ll have my brother set aside the perfect table for you two. If it’s just a romantic evening, there are these intimate tables on the mezzanine level with amazing views. But if you’re planning to bring friends, you’ll definitely want to be close to the dance floor action.”

“Til give her a call and let you know what we decide, Scarlett. I appreciate the recommendation,” Morris said, walking away while humming one of his usual melodies.
“What a genuinely happy person he is, Chloe mused. Then her expression shifted to serious. “Alright, listen carefully, ladies. Adrian, Liam, and Damian are scheming to ambush us at lunch today.”
“Now I know you’re definitely up to something, Scarlett. What are you plotting?”
Sleep eluded me every night now. The image of Liam wrapped around that wretched Isabella Clairemont while simultaneously begging for my forgiveness haunted my dreams. I would cry myself into exhaustion, waking up feeling drained and hollow, barely able to function.
Scarlett grabbed her phone and dialed, putting it on speaker so we could all hear.
I felt my already depleted energy drain even further. “I guess we’ll just have to order delivery and eat in the office today”
Scarlett ended the call and clapped her hands together with pure delight.
“I wouldn’t use the word ‘use, brother. I prefer to think of it as mutually beneficial collaboration!”
“Ah, I see. Very strategic. Got it, shorty. This should be interesting. See you at lunch. “Morris, I’m sorry to interrupt, but could I steal these two for just a quick moment?” she asked, trying to keep her voice casual.
Chloe watched him disappear around the corner before turning to us with
exaggerated disbelief. “Does that man literally sing and hum every single moment of the day?”
“Oh, you absolutely should listen to them. You mentioned your wife loves to dance, right? That place is incredible for dancing,” Chloe added, though I could see her practically vibrating with whatever news she was holding back.
Morris chuckled warmly. “From the way you describe it, I have a feeling it might become her new favorite hangout spot.”
“My wonderful, amazing, beloved brother of my heart,” she said in an overly sweet
voice.

“Absolutely not! Scarlett’s voice was sharp with determination. “If we hide from them now, they i just keep pulling these pathetic little stunts forever. We are not going to
Cower”
“Oh no, shorty. When you start with that tone, it means you’re plotting something and you need me to bail you out,” Levi’s voice came through the speaker, filled with amused suspicion.
“Now I need to get back to my desk before that idiot Adrian starts getting suspicious about why I’m over here so long,” Chloe said, practically skipping back to her
workstation.
