Chapter 10
Just as he was about to lash out, a child’s voice suddenly echoed through the receiver:
“Daddy, why aren’t you here yet?”
The HR director’s soothing response followed:
“Almost there, sweetheart. Be patient, okay? Daddy just needs to finish this call.”
Perhaps it’s an innate ability in every adult–whenever faced with a child, their voice naturally softens.
Harvey stood frozen, listening to the gentle voice on the other end of the line, his mind once again. drifting uncontrollably to thoughts of Lucky..
In truth, he had once had a complete family.
But somehow, he had let it slip through his fingers.
He numbly walked into the guest room–a place he hadn’t set foot in for seven years.
Everything was just as it had been before I entered his life, except for the divorce agreement that now lay on the desk.
He picked it up and scanned its contents. The clauses laid out my demands with crystal–clear logic.
The man, always so composed and cold, suddenly felt his eyes redden.
He had never expected that the “greedy” woman he thought I was…
Only wanted Lucky, not the house, not this family… and not him.
Harvey didn’t go to the office that day. Instead, he waited early outside the kindergarten.
He was waiting for me to show up with Lucky, smiling as I sent him into school.
But from morning to evening, he waited in vain. Neither Lucky nor I appeared.
At the end of the school day, Sunny came running out and immediately spotted Harvey’s Rolls–Royce.
Just as he was about to climb in, basking in the envious gazes of his classmates like always, Harvey

ganked him back down.
Where’s Lucky? Did you see him today?”
Sunny glared at Harvey, his tone disdainful as he replied:
“No! Maybe he realized he’s just a mistress’s kid and didn’t dare come to school.”
Vivian arrived just in time to see the standoff between the man and the boy. An uneasy feeling churned in her heart.
She had just returned home last night to find two documents waiting for her–one was a termination notice, and the other was a lawyer’s letter.
She had thought she had successfully won back Harvey’s heart, only to realize that his heart had. already been occupied by me and Lucky.
He just didn’t want to admit it.
When the principal learned of Harvey’s identity, their attitude shifted from surprise to disdain, and their words became sharp:
“In all these years, I’ve never seen someone so eager to be another child’s father.”
“At every parent–teacher meeting, the other kids would tease him for not having a dad. I honestly thought his father had passed away.”
“Emily has already completed Lucky’s withdrawal. Apart from these certificates he left behind, I
have no further information on him.”
Harvey stood at the kindergarten gate, holding a thick stack of certificates, tears streaming down his
face.
He finally realized that he hadn’t just lost his capable wife–he had also completely lost his exceptional son.
The next time I saw Harvey was at Lucky’s art exhibition.
Over the years abroad, I had deliberately nurtured Lucky’s interest in painting.
fhough still young, he had already made a name for himself as a talented young artist in the field.
This time, he was invited to bring his artwork back to the country for a charity auction. All proceeds,
per his wishes, would be donated to an orphanage.

s soon as the auction began, all of Lucky’s paintings were purchased at a high price by one bidder.
felt a faint premonition.
Sure enough, during the segment where the artist thanks the buyer, we saw Harvey.
He looked much more weathered than before. His clothes were wrinkled, and his jawline was
covered in a rough stubble.
Yet, despite all this, he was still undeniably handsome.
Harvey stared at us, his hands trembling as he accepted the flowers Lucky handed him.
During the brief embrace, I heard him whisper softly:
“I’m sorry, Lucky. Daddy lost you.”
“Please give Daddy another chance, okay?”
Lucky stiffened for a moment before quickly stepping back, smiling politely:
“Thank you for your donation, sir. I also hope you’ll continue supporting charities and helping more
kids find their moms and dads.”
Harvey looked at Lucky in front of him, his eyes reddening once again.
But what use was belated affection?
The harm Harvey had caused would forever remain a scar in Lucky’s heart.
Even if Lucky could forgive him, I wouldn’t forgive him so easily.
After the charity sale ended, Harvey followed us to our home abroad.
When the doorbell rang, and I saw the guilt and unease in his eyes, I wasn’t surprised.
Standing at the door, he looked at me earnestly and said:
“I didn’t agree to the divorce. I was wrong before, and I’ve reflected on it countless times over the
years.”
“I want to rebuild my family. Please give me a chance to formally pursue you again.”
arely found myself at a loss for words, but after a moment of silence, I finally let him inside.
The Billionaire’s Hidden Dauchte
knew that sometimes Lucky still cried for his father, though as he grew older, he learned to hide his reelings.
He didn’t want me to be upset and had stopped mentioning him altogether.
A month later, Harvey knocked on my door again:
“I’ve transferred all my business here.”
“From now on, I’ll do everything I can to be a good father.”
Lucky and I exchanged a glance and smiled.
believed he would.
