Chapter 4
Grant Colson pointed at me. “Bonnie Bryson, you’ve really got guts! Did you major in bragging at the Ivy League?”
“I’m dying here.” Caroline Wade laughed hysterically. “Why don’t you just say you’re Washington
himself?”
I sighed and looked at them. “Doesn’t it strike you as odd? Have you ever seen an Ivy League graduate working as a waitress?”
They froze for a moment, but their eyes remained filled with disdain.
Nicole smirked coldly. “Does it matter if you’re a waitress? Even if you graduated from the Ivy League, you’re still a poor girl in front of me.”
She stood up and pointed at the bottle of whiskey. “Drink this bottle, or I’ll smash it over your head.
Your choice.”
“Will drinking it let me leave?” Justin Wells suddenly stood up, grabbed the bottle, and took a deep breath. “I’ll drink it for her, and then she can leave!”
Why was he helping me?
Was he afraid I’d lose my temper and spill the truth about that night in Capital City?
I looked at him, my heart in turmoil.
Just then, the door to the lounge opened.
Jake walked in, followed by Brian Raymond.
Brian was frequently featured on local news, so most people recognized him.
Jake, as my assistant, had never avoided the public eye, so he was also a known figure.
The moment Nicole saw them, she immediately switched to a sycophantic tone and walked over.
“Uncle Brian, Assistant Jake, what brings you here?”
The others quickly stood up as well.

Nicole noticed this and immediately scolded me, “Bonnie Bryson, stand up! Don’t you see who’s

All eyes were suddenly on me.
Calm and unhurried, I took out a piece of candy, peeled off the wrapper slowly, and said without looking up. “No need to be so formal; we’re all acquaintances here.”
Then, I popped the candy into my mouth.
1 often ate candy when thinking–it was a habit of mine.
“Auntie, is it sweet?”
The delicately adorable little girl had somehow wandered over to me. She looked up at me with wide, sparkling eyes.
I took out another piece of candy and handed it to her. “Try it yourself.”
“Justin Wells, control your illegitimate child!” Nicole Tanner suddenly snapped. “What kind of
occasion is this? Why is a brat running around?”
Illegitimate child?
I froze.
Justin’s face turned ashen. He put down the bottle of whiskey and quickly scooped the little girl into
his arms.
What was going on?
Nicole had just claimed to be the little girl’s mother–how had she suddenly become an illegitimate,
child?
As I was lost in thought, I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my head.
Grant Colson had walked over and smashed a bottle on my head, shouting angrily, “You worthless mutt! Didn’t you hear me tell you to stand up?”
He was desperate to climb the social ladder, eager to impress Nicole Tanner and even more eager to show off in front of Brian Raymond and Jake.

Jake, after a moment of shock, rushed no major injuries, he dyed in

Still, he protectively held my head close, his expression ley as he glared at code “Mode Tanner, on of respect for your father, I made an exception to let you into the Magnet Club. But you cant even control your dogs? They dared to lift my boss on the head”
The room fell into stunned silence,
The louder their laughter had been earlier, the paler their faces were now
Jake continued, “Listen up, all of you. I’m from the Capital City Emerson family, and Bonde Bryson here is the woman I gave up being a CEO to work as her assistant. If any of you dare lay a hand on her again, I’ll make sure you suffer!”
“Capital City Emerson family?”
Grant and Caroline didn’t understand the significance of this, but Nicole’s face had already gone white as a sheet. Trembling, she stammered, “The Emerson family of Capital City? The family with eight members across three generations who’ve served in the cabinet?”
Brian Raymond walked over to me, his tone anxious. “Ms. Bryson, should we go to the hospital? We can discuss the project later. As for these people, I’ll deal with them.”
“Uncle Brian, are you sure you’ve got the right person?” Nicole asked, her voice shaking. “This Bonnie Bryson is just a nobody. Ten years ago, I almost scared her to death!”
Brian shot her a cold glare. “Your father said he wanted a piece of this construction project. I tol him the contractor would be chosen by Ms. Bryson. She’s the one I worked so hard to bring back–Ms. Bryson, President Bryson of the Magnet Club!”
At that moment, the lounge was utterly silent–you could hear a pin drop.
