“Stella Tanner threatened me. She said if I didn’t break up with you, she would spread those photos everywhere. I didn’t want you to get hurt. I never thought she’d go back on her word.”
“If I’d known you went through so much to support me, that you… I’m so stupid. I let you suffer so
much.”
This idiot actually believed I sold myself for money.
I looked at him helplessly.
“Dummy, do you believe everything she says? I’ve already told you–I’m a wealthy heiress. Why would I need to sell myself for money?”
But Landon thought I was just putting on a brave face. He held my hand tightly.
“It doesn’t matter, Caroline. No matter who you are or what you’ve done, rich or poor, you will always be the person I love the most.”
“I’ve made up my mind. If I can’t protect you, then I’ll die with you.”
My heart warmed with emotion. I hadn’t misjudged him after all.
“Landon, don’t worry. Neither of us is going to die.”
Stella Tanner arrogantly raised her chin at me.
“Caroline Tanner, you filthy tramp, why are you still standing there? Get down on your knees and apologize to my godmother!”
Landon nervously stepped in front of me, shielding me as he said warily,
“If you want to do something, come at me. Don’t make things difficult for Caroline.”
But I gently pushed him aside. His confused gaze met mine as I firmly and confidently shook my
head.

Turning to Mrs. Forbs, I smiled and asked,
Mom, why don’t you tell them–am 1 a filthy tramp?”
Stella froze for a moment, then erupted in a furious tirade.
“Caroline Tanner, you delusional orphan! Have you gone mad from not having a mother? How dare you try to claim my godmother as your own? I’ll smash your mouth to pieces!”
She grabbed the baseball bat and charged at me, but just as she raised it, her wrist was caught by the tall, beautiful young woman who had come with Mr. and Mrs. Forbs.
Stella struggled violently but couldn’t break free.
“Who are you, you tramp? Let go of me! Don’t you know I’m the heiress of both the Tanner family and Forbs Corporation? If you don’t want to die, get lost!”
“Godmother, tell her to let go of me so I can teach this tramp a lesson on your behalf!”
My mother calmly walked up to me. First, she glanced at Landon with approval in her eyes, then turned her attention to the wound on my forehead.
Stella, unable to see the care in her gaze, assumed she was about to personally reprimand me and began fueling the fire.
“Godmother, it’s her–she’s the one who seduced godfather. You don’t know what a filthy tramp
she…”
Before she could finish, my mother slapped her hard across the face. Her voice was icy as she said,
“Who said I’m your godmother? Have you gone mad from not having a mother? You uncivilized thing–if I hear you call my daughter a filthy tramp again, I’ll take your life!”
The room fell silent.
My father walked over as well. Taking off his jacket, he draped it over my shoulders with a look of deep concern.
“G–Godmother, what did you say? Caroline Tanner is your daughter? There must be some mistake, right?” Stella Tanner stammered.
My mother responded with another slap, just as swift and brutal. With Stella’s wrist pinned, she couldn’t dodge, and blood trickled from the corner of her mouth. Her swollen face now resembled a Pig’s head.
