Jayson did not react any differently. “Of course.”
It was almost impossible to tell whether Jayson was really being sincere when looking at his proper and elegant demeanor.
Lucas paused briefly. He took another glance at Ariel. Then, he left to meet his girlfriend.
Ariel had placed a lot of importance on the ceremony for Elena’s third death anniversary since it marked the closure point of their grieving her death.
She was not required to stay up all night. However, Ariel had been feeling a little anxious and restless lately. Staying near Elena’s photo, which they had placed on the table along with the offerings, made her feel much better. So, Ariel decided to do that while she stayed up for the night.
It was already evening by the time Ariel had finished the chores and seen Janice off at the front door.
To her surprise, Jayson had not left.
Ariel sat next to the table, where Elena’s photo was. Jayson sat in a chair nearby. When he noticed she was looking at him, Jayson said flatly, “I’ll stay and keep you company.”
His voice was devoid of any warmth or emotion. Nevertheless, his actions spoke louder than words.
Ariel stared at him with a confused expression. “I’m staying up all night.”
“I know.”
He checked his watch, looking completely calm and relaxed. “Do you want me to leave?”
His lips turned up in an enigmatic smile. For a moment, Ariel could sense this odd feeling of indecisiveness coming from him.
She was a bit flustered.
“Is he not going to go and meet up with Nancy? Did he perhaps feel some sympathy for me after seeing how sad and miserable I was earlier? Is he trying to be considerate toward me?” Ariel pondered.
Her expression remained the same. She was not moved by his actions either.
Ariel decided to pay no mind to it since she could not wrap her mind around why Jayson was doing this now.
When it was almost 8:00 pm, Ariel moved her stiff limbs around to stretch her muscles a little. She glanced over her shoulder and spotted Jayson sitting in his chair and looking at his tablet.
Although he had a frown on his forehead, Jayson remained there and kept Ariel company this whole time.
She knew he did not have to do so much for her today.
Jayson was not obliged to do these things since they were already getting divorced. Ariel was a sensible and reasonable person. Frankly speaking, Jayson was more like a guest to her and her family now.

Still, she felt the need to treat him with the most basic amount of respect. Ariel stood up, poured a glass of water, and placed it next to Jayson.
“Thank you for staying here for so long, but you won’t have to keep me company for the rest of the night. Since you’re already here, you and I should inform my grandma about our current situation.”
That was what Ariel found was more important.
Jayson’s gaze fell on the glass of water Ariel had put on the table. Before he could think about her words deeply, his phone rang.
Ariel spotted the caller’s name out of the corners of her eyes. It was Nancy.
Jayson directed his gaze to Ariel’s face. He answered the phone right in front of her. “What’s wrong?”
Jayson frowned slightly after listening to the other person speak for a while. He got up immediately. “I’ll head over right now. Wait for me there.”
He ended the call and looked at Ariel. “Something came up. So, I have to leave now.”
Jayson was not trying to ask for Ariel’s opinion. He was simply informing her his decision.
Ariel had expected something like this happening. “Okay.”
Jayson’s eyes narrowed as he stared at her impassive face. He could not find any hint of her wanting him to stay from the look on her face.
Without offering any other explanation, Jayson strode toward the front door.
Ariel did not try to make Jayson stay, nor was she curious to find out why he had left so abruptly.
It was because she knew that anything related to Nancy, regardless of how insignificant it might be, was Jayson’s first priority.
It was already a rare occurrence that Jayson was willing to do her the favor of staying around until now.
As for him promising to stay with her for the entire night only to go back on his word…
Did Ariel find that surprising? Not really.
She had gotten used to this.
Ariel turned around and stared at the photo, where she could see Elena smiling softly, for quite some time. She stepped forward and carefully wiped the photo frame.
Then, she headed for Katie’s bedroom.
Katie was still up. She was going through and tidying Elena’s belongings. She waved her hand at Ariel when the latter entered the room. “Where’s Jayson?”
Ariel took a deep breath.
She walked over to Katie and took her hand. “Grandma… He won’t be coming here anymore. He and I are… We’re in the midst of completing our divorce procedures.”
