Chapter 165
Ariel stopped breathing for a second. Then, she frowned and sent Lucas a glare.
She glanced at the expressionless Jayson next. He seemed completely uninterested in what was going on between
Ariel and Lucas.
Earlier, Ariel noticed that Jayson had frowned almost unnoticeably when Lucas mentioned the word “wife“.
Jayson’s phone rang again before he could say anything. He glanced at the screen and saw that it was a call from Nancy. His expression softened visibly as he answered the phone. “Mhm… I’m heading back inside now.”
It was impossible for Ariel not to notice the changes in Jayson’s facial expression and voice tone.
Jayson did not answer Lucas‘ question. Instead, he nodded at Lucas, glanced at Ariel, and strode off. He acted as though Ariel was completely unrelated to him in any way.
Ariel could tell without a doubt that the caller was Nancy. Nancy was the only person who could make Jayson show his soft, vulnerable side like earlier.
Ariel slowly averted her gaze. As the person at the center of all this, no one could better understand how Jayson and Lucas had always scorned and ridiculed her.
Ariel had given up on the plan to ask for Lucas‘ help, considering his words and attitude earlier.
Without a word, she walked off.
Lucas stood in the same spot and stared at her receding figure. Ariel looked so frail and fragile that it felt like she could shatter at any moment.
Lucas knitted his brows and drew on his cigarette. He managed to suppress the strange sense of unease in him as he convinced himself that he was just overthinking things.
Ultimately, she failed to find Fergus, the expert who had supposedly already returned to the country. Ariel could not help feeling a bit down.
She had searched the entire venue but could
ot find anyone who looked like they might be Fergus.
As the event ended, the guests started leaving. Ariel had no choice but to give up this time and think of another plan.
She waited by the building’s entrance as Janice left to get the car.
It was cold and windy around this time of the year in Eldoria. Ariel still felt that it was freezing cold even though she was already wearing a long padded jacket that she had brought along.
As she picked up on the sound of someone talking, Ariel lifted her head and looked in the direction of the voice. She stiffened slightly.
Zach and a young man were coming out of the hall. When he spotted Ariel, Zach glanced at her briefly before looking away. He had no intention of greeting her.
Ariel was not going to bother greeting someone who had constantly treated her with scorn and disdain. She merely

cast a glance at the man beside Zach.
The man was someone Ariel had not met before. However, he was most likely someone from the elite circle as well since he seemed to be a close acquaintance of Zach’s,
The man exuded a refined air. It would be hard for people not to notice him with his good looks.
That person seemed to have noticed Ariel was looking at him. He directed his gaze toward her.
Just as Ariel was about to look away, the man gave a slight nod of the head in response to her curious gaze.
Ariel paused briefly. She thought that those who were close to Zach would look at her with scorn and disdain as well just like Zach. She did not expect that the person she had just seen would be so polite and gentlemanly.
Just then, Janice pulled up nearby and beeped her horn. Ariel snapped out of her reverie and got into the car. She had pushed what happened earlier to the back of her head.
After Ariel got into the car, she closed her eyes. Her mind was filled with concerns about Elena’s wedding ring.
Ariel could not afford to take any chances.
It would be utterly infuriating and mortifying for her and the Walkers if Jayson were really planning on letting Nancy wear the ring.
Sarah had betrayed Elena’s trust and stabbed her in the back multiple times. Her daughter, Nancy, had ruined Ariel’s marriage. Ariel could not possibly allow Elena’s ring to fall into Nancy’s possession, no matter what.
Ariel called Jayson, but he did not pick up. She continued calling his number, yet it remained unanswered.
Ariel was not sure whether he was trying to ignore her calls or if he really had not noticed. She could not be bothered to find out the truth anyway.
She looked at Janice and said, “Jan, can you drop me off at Larkin Manor?”
Even if Jayson had refused to pick up the phone, Ariel still had to find a way to resolve the issue. She needed to meet him in person.
Janice slowly nodded as she could tell what Ariel was planning to do. On the way, Ariel took out her laptop and worked on rewriting some of the code in the car’s back seat.
When she got to Larkin Manor, Jayson had not returned home.
