Chapter 170
Jayson paused briefly. “This place offers a spectacular night view.”
Ariel could tell that Betty wanted them to enjoy an amazing night together. She looked around them.
A violinist played a song on her violin to create a romantic mood for the couple. Ariel could sometimes see the waiters passing by in the distance.
Overall, they were surrounded by quite a few people.
“I’m done eating. I’ll head over to the suite first.” Ariel got up.
This was not the place for them to discuss matters regarding the ring. If they weren’t careful enough, what they discussed here might be relayed to Betty right away.
Jayson didn’t try to stop her. He took a cigarette out of the box and gazed at her intently. “It’s quite chilly out here on the rooftop. You should head in first.”
Ariel turned around and walked away without the slightest hint of hesitation. She didn’t seem to mind leaving this romantic spot, which had been set up by spending a lot of money on it.
The suite was huge. Rose petals were scattered on the floor, forming a path that started at the front door and went all the way to the living room.
Ariel turned her head and glanced in the direction of the bedroom. She could vaguely see that the bed was completely covered in rose petals too.
With dimmed lights and tasty wine prepared in the room, the suite perfectly fit the Valentine’s Day theme. Yet, Ariel did not let her gaze wander. She seemed completely unaffected. She walked over to the couch in the living room, swept the rose petals to the side, and sat down.
The suite was a private space. Betty would not be able to find out anything that happened there.
Ariel checked the time and found that it was just past 8:00 pm. She had decided to face Jayson head–on and negotiate about the ring tonight.
According to the divorce agreement she passed to Jayson, Ariel had not asked for anything in compensation from him. If Jayson refused to give her the ring, which was her family heirloom, Ariel would request that the agreement be revised and that returning the ring to her be one of the conditions.
Ariel was determined to get the ring back, even if she had to file for a lawsuit.
She believed that Jayson would weigh and consider all the pros and cons before accepting her proposition. It would be troublesome for Jayson if they could not reach a consensus on the terms of the divorce agreement, as it would mean they would have to start all over.
There was no way Jayson would want to waste his time on something like that.
Ariel let out a sigh. She sensed a throbbing pain in her lower abdomen.
She put one hand over the area. Ariel had gotten used to getting these pains from time to time, so she did not think much of it.
She took her tablet out of her bag and began reading the academic paper Carlos had sent her. While she was

focused on reading the paper, Jayson entered the suite.
He strode into the room whilst looking at his phone. He took a glance at Ariel, who was staring at her tablet with a frown and seemingly deep in thought.
Jayson did not disturb her. He stepped over to the other end of the couch and sat there. The two of them sat far apart from each other doing their own things.
Even though various preparations had been made in the room to create an intimate mood, all of that was pointless to the couple.
Ariel was distracted as the pain in her lower abdomen gradually intensified.
She spotted Jayson, who sat with his legs crossed and stared at his phone with his head lowered. It seemed like he was chatting with someone as he was busy tapping away at his phone.
Ariel slowly drew a long breath and tried her best to endure the pain. “Let’s have a chat, Mr. Larkin.”
If it were not because today was Valentine’s Day, she probably might not get the chance to talk to Jayson in a peaceful, distraction–free environment.
Jayson turned off his phone and looked at Ariel. It almost felt as if he had been waiting for her to initiate the
conversation.
Ariel clenched her jaw, trying to pull herself together and appear normal. “Have you considered what to do about the ring?”
If Jayson were to give his mistress his mother–in–law’s wedding ring, it would be deeply mortifying for Ariel and the Walkers. Ariel could not back down now.
Jayson stared at her and chuckled. “Is that the only thing you want to say to me today?”
Ariel responded calmly, “I don’t think there’s anything else we need to talk about.”
Silence fell over the room.
