Ariel instinctively gripped her cutleries tighter, suddenly nervous. “No, I’m feeling alright. I guess I was too busy and missed
my meals.”
After she got sick, she lost a lot of weight, her appetite worsened, and she couldn’t keep anything down.
Jayson and Lucas never noticed anything. Only Katie, who loved her dearly, was the first to notice something was off.
However, Ariel couldn’t tell her anything.
Katie was getting old, and she couldn’t handle any more stress ever since Elena passed. Her Uncle Leonard had been in a
nursing home because of liver cancer.
How could they possibly cope if Ariel were to collapse too?
“Are you unhappy, Ari?” Katie couldn’t shake the feeling that Ariel wasn’t doing well, and it made her uneasy. “Did you have a
fight with Jayson?”
She couldn’t understand why Jayson hadn’t been accompanying Ariel to visit her otherwise.
Ariel placed her cutleries down and hugged Katie. “We didn’t. We’re getting along well, don’t worry. I’ll make sure he comes
over personally to talk to you.”
They’ll both be better off on their own as long as they get a divorce.
Katie could only pile more helpings of food onto Ariel’s plate, hoping to get her to gain a few more pounds. Even though
Ariel’s appetite was poor, and she felt nauseous, she still smiled and ate everything.
She left with the scarves Katie knitted for her.Ne
Ariel did not go to Bluum Corp on Monday. Instead, she headed straight to Faye Technologies. (1)
Jayson had agreed to approve her resignation, and she had finished handing over her work. She can finally start anew now.
Ariel left the men’s scarf in her car and wore the women’s one as she headed upstairs. Janice and Chad were already waiting
for her.
The management of Faye Technologies consisted of only the two of them. Ariel had joined as the third major shareholder with her technical stake. However, many employees were skeptical of her arrival.
Everyone at Faye Technologies came from top universities–both domestically and internationally. But her résumé wasn’t impressive–her only work experience was in public relations.
There was no need for pretty faces in Faye Technologies.
“You guys didn’t mention that the minimum requirement here is a master’s degree.” After learning about the situation at Faye Technologies, Ariel was surprised to find that a graduate degree wasn’t really valuable here.
Janice waved a hand dismissively. “So what? Even if they all add up, they might not be as useful as you–you’re Faye Tech’s trump card!”
Just Ariel’s U.N2 from five years ago could dominate the entire field
“Maybe I should take you for an MRI first before you start.” Chad snorted before continuing, “I need to make sure you’ve cleaned out of that lovestruck mentality of yours. Otherwise, I’d end up crying alone if you run off halfway through a project.”
Ariel was left speechless. Chad was still as biting and straightforward as ever.

“There’s someone who’s waiting to see you, Mr. Hockney. They said they’d like to learn more about U N2,” Laura Dickens, Chad’s assistant, knocked on the door and said.
He asked, “Who is it?”
“It’s Ms. Nancy Stanton, representing Mr. Larkin of Bluum Corp,” Laura replied.
As soon as they heard her name, everyone in the room, except for Ariel, couldn’t hide their displeasure.
Janice crossed her arms and coldly sneered, “Who is she to represent Jayson? Get her to fuck off!”
Laura turned to look at Chad awkwardly. Janice had a fiery temper, yet he had always kept his cool.
He glanced over coldly and said, “Tell her we have an important guest. She came in such a hurry–I don’t have the time to deal
with her.”
Laura forced a smile when she heard Chad’s comment–it was worse than Janice’s. He was practically saying that Nancy
came uninvited.
Ariel didn’t think too much about it. From the moment she learned that Nancy was in the drone industry, she knew this situation was inevitable. She had already come to terms with it and wouldn’t bring her emotions and personal matters into
her work.
“I’m fine, don’t be anxious,” she replied.
Janice pursed her lips. “I’d like to see her expression when that slutty bitch found out that the actual U.N2 developer is you. She’s not even in your league! Jayson truly is blind!”
Back then, Ariel made a secret deal with the government, leading to the operational use of reconnaissance and strike drones. U.N2 was incorporated, and a five–year non–disclosure agreement was signed to prevent her identity from being revealed during that time.
Otherwise, Nancy wouldn’t have gotten her chance to shine in the industry.
The office door was opened abruptly. A man was heard saying irritably, “I’d like to see which guest is so important!”
