Carlos made no attempt to explain anything further. He turned around and headed into the hall. When b
the passed by Ariel, Carlos furrowed his brows. There was a hint of sadness and disappointment in his eyes. Ariel had dropped her plans to further her studies and decided to marry Jayson instead. Yet, Jayson betrayed Ariel and completely let her down.
Even with Ariel around, Jayson didn’t hold back and treated Nancy extremely well. Ariel had ended up wasting three years of her life on that man.
Ariel shrank back slightly as she felt a little guilty.
Zach caught Carlos looking at Ariel with a rather disdainful gaze. He curled his lips, thinking that it was just as he had expected. After Carlos walked away, Zach and the other guests went up to Chad.
All of them stared at Chad curiously. “Mr. Chad, do you happen to have any insider info? Does Mr. Carlos already have a particular candidate on his mind? Can you share some information with us?”
If there really was some exceptional genius Carlos had laid his eyes on, these people were eager to get acquainted with that person first. It would be even better if they could get that person to work for their company.
Nancy frowned. She fixed her gaze on Chad as well. She was also curious about the identity of this genius.
Chad raised his brows. He had an enigmatic look in his eyes. “About that… All of you will find out when the time
comes.”
Chad had no intention of sharing anything. First, they had not set the date for the admissions exam, so there was no need to create too much of a buzz about it.
Secondly, these people probably would not give a positive response even if Chad were to reveal that person as Ariel now.
Once Ariel had been confirmed to be Carlos‘ new postgraduate student, Chad wouldn’t have to bother convincing these people about Ariel’s abilities.
Anyone c
could tell from Chad’s response that he was not going to let them in on any information.
Jayson didn’t seem to mind how things had turned out. He lowered his gaze and glanced at Nancy, who appeared lost in thought. He handed her a drink and said nonchalantly, “You can take your time. It’s too soon to tell what Mr. Carlos‘ final decision will be.”
Nancy smiled brightly as she drew consolation from his words. “I know.”
For someone like Carlos, who was one of their country’s top experts, Nancy could understand if he was harsh, strict, and even picky. She decided she would give her best and do so well that Carlos would have no choice but to acknowledge her competence.
Zach added, “It’s only natural that Mr. Carlos is stricter about these matters. I’m sure everything will be fine once he sees your true potential. You have a solid foundation, be it your capabilities or academic qualifications. There’s no need for you to feel so anxious.”
Nancy looked at him and smiled faintly. “Thank you, Mr. Quinton.”
Ariel had no intention of speaking to these people. She checked the time, wondering if she should return to her
room and read some books.
She was about to inform Chad about it. Suddenly, Zach grinned and asked, “I don’t recall ever hearing Ms. Walker

talk about which school she graduated from. Did you do a bachelor’s degree? Or did you take a diploma? Whe subject did you major in?”
Ariel cast him a sideways glancer.
With Zach’s expression remaining the same, it seemed like he had only asked those questions in passing,
Jayson’s gaze slowly drifted toward Zach. Then, he turned his eyes to Ariel, seemingly totally unbothered. While she was feeling much calmer, Nancy lifted her brows However, she kept silent.
Meanwhile, Chad sensed how the atmosphere had turned a little awkward.
Ariel fixed Zach with an icy gaze. “Are we that close to begin with, Mr. Quinton? Why would I be telling you those things?”
A deep frown drew Zach’s brows together. He could detect a trace of hostility in Ariel’s tone
However, he quickly assumed Ariel had reacted so strongly because she was probably too ashamed to share about those things.
Zach found it amusing that Ariel was gleeful about watching Nancy getting rejected when she couldn’t bring herself to tell others her academic qualifications.
Zach shook his head and glanced at Chad. He said in a roundabout way, “You can’t blame me for being curious. It was just that I noticed how Mr. Carlos seemed quite displeased when he looked at Ms. Walker before he left. Is it because… Mr. Carlos doesn’t approve of her?”
Zach was convinced that Chad and Ariel were more than just friends.
Chad had taken Ariel along on such an important trip, where participants had the rare opportunity to observe and learn a lot of things. Zach reckoned Chad was probably trying to make use of the opportunity to find out Carlos‘ opinions of Ariel.
Zach felt he had figured out why Carlos had given Ariel that look earlier. Carlos probably disapproved of Chad getting involved with Ariel.
Zach grew certain that Ariel would never be able to marry into the Hockney family.
Nancy could tell what Zach was getting at. She raised her brows as she agreed with his thoughts internally
Chad knew right away that these people were mocking Ariel aga
He curled his lips, Chad directed his gaze to Jayson and Nancy the next instant. He acted as though a thought had just struck him.
