The improvement in his health would also help increase Leonard’s upcoming operation’s success rate.
“Do you know Dr. Spencer personally?” Leonard asked after peeling an apple and cutting it into slices for Ariel.
Ariel looked up from the book she had placed on her lap. “Ie met him a few times, but I don’t know him that well.”
Leonard smiled. “Dr. Spencer is a pretty decent man. He doesn’t talk much, but he checks on me whenever he has free time. He’s not my attending physician, but he’s very responsible. He’s a really nice young man.”
Ariel chuckled as she poured Leonard a glass of water. “Why haven’t I heard you praise Dr. Coleman like that before, though?”
“That’s because I would praise Dr. Coleman directly.” He picked up the glass of water and responded matter–of- factly.
“A handsome, talented young man like Dr. Spencer doesn’t need to hear these praises from me. I’ve heard the nurses talking about how Dr. Spencer doesn’t have a girlfriend and how he’s an upright, virtuous man.
“Moreover, he seems to have come from a pretty wealthy and prominent family. It’s really rare to find someone with his background yet has such a great personality!”
Ariel looked impressed as she nodded. “Uncle Leo, you’ve found yourself a really fun pastime activity while staying here at the hospital. You managed to find out so much information about Dr. Spencer.”
“You clueless thing! He’s what people would call a gold–standard husband—almost impossible to find these days. “Leonard gave her forehead a gentle poke.
Ariel had completed the divorce procedures. She was often preoccupied with work. Leonard thought Ariel could try dating again so that her life wasn’t just filled with dull, repetitive work.
Ariel understood Leonard’s intentions. However, she had no plans to see anyone at the moment. She was just about to tell Leonard not to worry about it.
Someone knocked on the door just then.
A woman who appeared to be a caregiver stepped in, carrying a slice of cake in her hands. She smiled broadly and placed the cake on the table. “You’re Mr. Walker and Ms. Walker, right?”
Ariel cast a glance at the cake and nodded. “Who might you be?”
The woman pointed to the door. “I’m the caregiver who works for a patient staying in one of the wards downstairs. I’m just helping to distribute some cakes to the other patients.
“My employer says her daughter will be getting the results of her postgraduate admissions exam soon, and
they’re celebrating in advance. They hope to share their joy and happiness with everyone by giving out some cakes.

The look in Ariel’s eyes changed gradually.
She could tell almost instantly that it was Sarah who had instructed the woman to deliver the cake here. They were celebrating it as though they were a hundred percent certain that Nancy had been selected as Carlos‘ new student.
Yet, they were clearly trying to show off and mock Ariel and her family by doing this.
Ariel had done everything she could to make sure that Katie and Leonard wouldn’t find out that Jayson was having an affair with Nancy, who was Sarah’s daughter. She didn’t want to risk making her frail, sickly elders upset and

end up in a further weakened state.
Yet, Sarah pulled such a cheap trick just to try to show off to them?
“Who’s this person celebrating such wonderful news?” Leonard, who was completely oblivious, asked curiously. “It’s nobody. Unfortunately, we can’t possibly accept something of unknown origin.”
Ariel’s face was devoid of emotion. She walked over to the able and picked up the cake. She fixed the caregiver with a stony gaze. “Please lead the way. I’ll personally thank your employer.”
The caregiver froze for a split second upon meeting Ariel’s gaze. She dared not utter a word as she quickly nodded and headed out the door.
They took the elevator to the floor below.
Ariel knew very well which ward Sarah was staying at since she had insisted on taking the room that Leonard had been living in for two years and forced him to move to another ward.
She walked down the familiar path and stopped outside the door. She could hear the sound of people laughing and chattering away coming from inside the ward.
With a frigid expression, Ariel entered the room.
Sarah and Nancy directed their gazes to Ariel. Sarah was still smiling. “Ariel! You’re here? What a lovely coincidence. Do you want to have some cakes with us?”
Ariel noticed Jayson, who was standing next to the window. He turned slightly to look at her.
Ariel didn’t spare him another glance, and she didn’t respond to Sarah’s questions either.
With a calm look on her face, she brought the piece of cake she was holding and went over to the huge cake placed next to Sarah. Then, she flipped the plate and pressed her piece of cake onto the cake below hard.
In an instant, she ruined the cake, which still had many portions left and was decorated with congratulatory remarks for Nancy.
Sarah’s expression hardened. Meanwhile, Nancy furrowed Her brows. She looked very displeased.
“For her to be acting this way! Does she not know any manners? No wonder the Hockney family hadn’t let her into their house the other day!” She scoffed inwardly.
Ariel didn’t let any of her emotions show. She turned around and stared at Jayson, who appeared cold and indifferent while looking at her.
“Jayson Larkin, it’s either you have them out of this hospital today, or I’ll expose the lie about Nancy, whom everyone believes is your girlfriend, and have her kicked out of the elite circle for good. Pick one.”
