Nancy had indeed obtained a very high score.
Faced with limited time, she opted to proceed with the examination, aiming to secure her position as a postgraduate student under Carlos‘ supervision.
Still, Nancy managed to obtain such excellent results. Someone of her caliber would usually be deemed one of the gifted, top–tier students.
Matt and the others had expected this much from the beginning. Nancy wouldn’t have any issue passing the exam with flying colors.
As for her “rival“, there was still no news from her. Somehow, they felt like they could pretty much foresee how things would unfold.
Renee paused momentarily. “Ariel? She took the exam too
Nancy recalled how Ariel had handed in her paper well before the exam ended. She nodded with an indifferent expression.
Renee furrowed her brows.
She’d always believed in the value of self–improvement and lifelong learning. But Ariel–taking the postgraduate admissions exam? That caught her off guard.
From what she remembered, Ariel’s world had revolved entirely around Jayson, her time mostly spent in the kitchen cooking for him. Renee just couldn’t picture her stepping into an exam hall, let alone chasing an academic goal.
“The core modules and math paper? You don’t pass those unless you’ve actually studied. And now she’s suddenly sitting for the postgraduate admissions exam after being out of school for ages? I honestly can’t tell if she’s misjudging Ashford University’s standards or just has too much confidence in herself.” Matt shook his head.
She had gone so far as to make that bold statement before an audience. If the outcome turned against her, Faye Technologies‘ reputation might suffer right alongside hers.
Nancy lifted her glass and remarked pointedly, “Everyone has ambitions they wish to achieve.”
“A smart person would try to keep a low profile first if they were not a hundred percent sure things would go their way. There was no need to garner all the attention and make the situation more embarrassing for themselves.”
Matt shrugged and made another guess. “I checked Mr. Chad’s social media account just now. There were no new updates. If Ariel had achieved good results, they would be showing them off by now. There’s no way they’d be keeping quiet like what they’re doing now.”
Matt reckoned Ariel would probably feel so embarrassed that she might not want to see anyone for the time being.
Perhaps she was trying to act as if none of this had ever happened, and she was hoping everyone would slowly forget about it:
Jayson put down his cup and gave him a sideways glance. “You sound really concerned about her.”
He spoke without inflection, as if going through the motions. It was obvious he neither cared for the subject hor wanted to hear more about Ariel.
Nancy curled her lips as she noticed Jayson’s attitude toward the matter. She knew Jayson’s resentment toward Ariel had deepened after the way she’d disrespected both her and Sarah the other day. Now, he refused to even speak of her.

Matt had picked up on it too–Jayson seemed completely disinterested in anything concerning Ariel. He tactfully changed the topic. “Have you checked your ranking? Will the university put up a notice? Have you heard from Mr. Carlos already?”
Renee placed her hands on Nancy’s arm. “For that major, she’s definitely in first place with that score!
“I’ve checked the minimum scores one must achieve to pass the final exam and the highest scores students have achieved during the previous years. Her score falls within the range of the highest scores ever achieved.”
Renee was also interested in the study of aerospace engineering. She had been paying attention to this sort of information for the last two years.
With Jayson’s discerning nature, he had introduced Renee to a sister–in–law whose warmth and academic support proved invaluable. She couldn’t have been more thrilled.
No news had come from the university, not even a website update on rankings or course transfer information. Nancy hadn’t seen her official results yet, but she was fairly certain she’d topped the list. Still, a part of her knew she should call and confirm, just to be sure.
Nancy nodded. “I’ll call the admissions office and ask the staff about it.”
Besides, she also wanted to know roughly when she would receive the official letter confirming her acceptance as Carlos‘ postgraduate student.
Perry frowned slightly. With Nancy obtaining such a high score, he couldn’t help but worry for Ariel.
Nancy went ahead and called the Ashford University admissions office right away.
The smile on her face froze as the voice on the other end spoke. Her expression twisted in confusion. Nancy hesitated for only a second before asking again, needing to be sure she’d heard correctly.
“I’m… in second place?”
Nancy felt bewildered.
Matt was shocked upon hearing what she said.
Nancy was in second place? Even with that score?
Jayson directed his gaze to Nancy. After she ended the call, Nancy’s expression turned grim.
