Chapter 341
Ariel had not expected to hear such a firm answer from Carbs.
She lifted her gaze and looked at Carlos, who stood beside her with a solemn expression on his face. Somehow, Ariel suddenly felt like she was being safely protected.
It was something she rarely experienced in the past.
Nancy’s eyes bulged in shock.
Carlos‘ response was such a huge blow to her that it jumbled up her thoughts and everything she had prepared in advance to say to him.
Also, an indescribable feeling of shame and embarrassment rose within her as Ariel happened to witness how Carlos had rejected her.
Jayson glanced at Ariel. A fleeting expression flashed through his eyes.
Then, he said in a calm and steady voice, “Since you already have a candidate that you prefer and you have no plans to take another student at the moment, we won’t try to pressure you with our proposition any further.”
Nancy was visibly distressed. Her lips grew pale.
Various emotions were reflected in her eyes as she directed her gaze at Ariel. There was a flash of scorn and contempt in those orbs.
Still, Nancy was perceptive enough to tell that she should not speak rashly under these circumstances.
Carlos met Jayson’s eyes. The young man was clever and composed. He had been very polite and respectful when trying to arrange for a meeting with Carlos.
After learning that Carlos was at Faye Technologies‘ event, Jayson came here and spoke to him personally to ask for some of his time. He was sensible and not overly conceited.
However, Jayson’s taste in women was extremely bad!
“I think you should leave now, Mr. Larkin.” After saying that, Carlos turned around and left.
Ariel did not spare those two another glance as she quickly followed behind Carlos.
It was pointless trying to argue with these people who were prejudiced against her. Ariel would rather focus on doing more important things.
She planned to discuss the flight control system and flight control chip with Carlos, which she and the research team she had been leading had been working on since the beginning of the year.
Ariel had an idea that could help elevate and take their country’s drone technology to the next level. She wanted to discuss it with Carlos as soon as possible.
Jayson stared at Ariel’s receding figure for quite some time before slowly averting his gaze.
Nancy was clearly disgruntled.
Things had always been smooth sailing for her since she was still a kid. People always commented about how lucky she was to be blessed with both brains and good looks
Yet, she had lost to someone like Ariel, who only had the looks and hardly knew much about their field of study.
“How did it go? Have you guys sorted the matter out with Mr. Carlos?” Matt hurried over and asked.

Jayson dropped his gaze and said flatly, “Mr. Carlos rejected the request.”
Matt was shocked. “Why, though? Who did he pick as his student, then?”
“Ariel Walker.” Nancy tried her best to sound calm as she said that name.
Matt was momentarily stunned. He felt as though his brain had stopped working for a moment. After a while, he asked with a bewildered look on his face, “He really chose Her?”
Matt could not wrap his head around it. With his hands on is waist, he paced back and forth.
“There’s clearly something strange going on! Could it be that Mr. Chad had persuaded Mr. Carlos to make an exception for Ariel and take her as his student? Even if he didn’t choose you, shouldn’t the student who got first place in the final exam be chosen to be his new student instead?”
Logically speaking, there was no way Carlos would pick someone of Ariel’s caliber to be his student.
Nancy let out a deep sigh. She massaged her throbbing temples and replied expressionlessly, “Hmm… I’m not sure about the details yet, but Ariel has most likely hit the minimum score required to pass the final exam. Otherwise, Mr. Chad wouldn’t be able to persuade Mr. Carlos to take her as his student even if he wanted to.”
Nancy reckoned Ariel had probably barely passed the minimum required score. Despite Ariel being in the last few places among those who passed the final exam, Carlos would still be able to make an exception for her and take Ariel as his student under these conditions.
With all things considered, it seemed the most plausible to her that Ariel had scored just slightly above the minimum required score to pass the final exam.
If that were the case, there should be quite a huge difference between her and Ariel’s scores. Nancy’s knowledge and expertise would be way above Ariel’s. Ariel couldn’t possibly compare to her.
“Is this how Mr. Carlos does things normally? Is he not worried others may say that he’s being unfair?” Matt found this situation unacceptable.
Nancy had fully regained her composure. “People can say anything they want. However, Mr. Carlos might risk damaging his relationship with Mr. Chad if he refused to help with his son’s request.”
