Ariel didn’t spare Zach another glance, and she didn’t say anything about forgiving him just because he had already apologized to her.
Zach felt a heavy feeling in his chest. As he stared at Ariel’s side profile, Zach experienced for the first time ever the desperation of being the person who needed a favor from someone else.
Gary breathed a sigh of relief. He felt grateful to Ariel. “I’m sorry you had to go through those things, Ariel. If this young man does anything rude to you again, I’ll make sure to punish him for you.
“Also, allow me to apologize on his behalf once more. If you ever run into any issue or situation again, you can always let me know.”
Chad’s brows lifted. After giving it some thought, he raised his glass and made a toast.
“You didn’t have to say all that, Uncle Gary. It is Faye Tech’s honor to be able to do business with you. We had to bring up those issues earlier since it involved Ari’s reputation. We didn’t mean to turn the mood sour. I hope you’ll understand.”
Gary could tell what Chad was trying to do by saying that. He pointed at Chad and grinned. “You’re a smart one, aren’t you?”
In this situation, Faye Technologies would be gaining a lot more by doing this favor for Gary.
As they clinked glasses, the issue was considered resolved then.
Ariel appeared less hostile as she returned to her usual quiet, mild–mannered self.
She hadn’t planned on making too much of a fuss over the issue earlier. With Gary’s background and status, it would be reckless and stupid of her to make things too difficult for the Quintons.
Instead, Ariel simply shared about the issue and was willing to do Gary a favor by overlooking what happened. Yet, that was enough to make the Quintons feel grateful for her forbearance.
Carlos was probably sincerely upset about what happened. He did not even join them for dinner. Furthermore, he didn’t even come out to see Gary and Zach off when it was time for them to leave.
Gary realized once again that he had definitely gotten on Carlos‘ wrong side. However, he had no choice but to try to make it up to Carlos some other time.
The Quintons came out of the Hockney residence’s front door.
Zach was still in a daze when Gary kicked him on his calf. “Don’t tell anyone you’re my son if you still can’t watch what you say after this!”
Zach had been feeling indignant this whole time. Gary did not hold back with his kick. It made Zach feel extremely annoyed and frustrated. “It’s not like you’re still at the age where you can try for another son.”
Gary’s eyes bulged.
Zach quickly changed the topic. “I’ve been meaning to ask since earlier. Dad, how did you know that Ariel was married? Do you happen to know who her husband is as well?”
Also, Zach noticed how polite Gary was to Ariel. Gary even chatted with her pretty frequently during the meal. Zach found it strange since he knew his father pretty well.
Perhaps Gary acted that way partly because Carlos had chosen Ariel to be his new postgraduate student.

Still, Ariel would just be one of Carlos‘ many students. Zach couldn’t figure out what made Ariel so special that even Gary was being friendly to her.
Zach felt like he was missing something, but he couldn’t pinpoint exactly what it was.
With a frigid expression, Gary headed toward the car. He replied curtly, “You know him.”
Zach froze after hearing this shocking piece of information
He knew that person?
Moreover, it was someone Gary knew as well. That implied the person most likely had a rather special or unusual background.
Zach racked his brain trying to find the most plausible candidate.
Just as he was about to ask another question, Gary got into the car, slammed the door shut, and instructed the driver to depart right away.
The driver stepped on the gas pedal and sped off, leaving Zach standing there while breathing in the exhaust fumes.
Zach was rendered speechless. His father did not bother taking him along and just left him there.
The next day, Zach came to Faye Technologies‘ building again. This time, he faced no issues while trying to meet with their representatives.
Ariel did not meet him. She let Chad and Janice handle meeting Zach and signing the contract with him.
In the afternoon, Ariel was informed that Perry was here.
Frankly, Ariel didn’t like anyone from Jayson’s circle of friends. However, Perry had helped Ariel when she was looking for doctors to treat Leonard. He was also the one who introduced Liam to her.
Ariel owed him for all the things he had done for her back then. Now, she could finally repay his favors.
If it weren’t because of Perry’s help with Liam, Ariel probably would not even consider doing business with the Houston Group.
Once they were done signing the agreement, Ariel lifted her gaze and looked at Perry. She said calmly, “This patent license is my way of repaying you, Mr. Houston. From now on, it’ll be strictly business between us.”
