Jayson did not move from his seal.
Ariel frowned and stared at him. “Is there something else you need to talk to me about?”
In other words, she was telling Jayson he should probably get going now,
Jayson looked at her before glancing at his watch. “Since I’m already here, I might as well stay around until the operation’s over.”
Ariel said in a slightly mocking tone, “You’re just worried that I’ll change my mind and go back on my words, aren’t you?”
Jayson was probably worried that Ariel was simply lying to him by agreeing to his request first only to go back on her promise afterward.
Jayson’s lips moved slightly as he kept his gaze on her. Then, he responded monotonously, “Mhm. That’s why I can’t just leave you be.”
Ariel could not be bothered by the fact that Jayson did not trust her. She knew that this was the kind of person Jayson had always been. You could hardly change his decision or opinion once he had made up his mind about something.
Ariel simply averted her gaze. She didn’t bother sparing Jayson another glance.
Jayson didn’t seem to care much about Ariel’s reaction and attitude toward his decision either. He also didn’t seem to find the awfully quiet atmosphere surrounding them strange or awkward.
Once they were done talking about the urgent matters, none of them tried to bring up another topic. They were like two strangers who had been put in the same room.
In the past, they would often end up like this as well whenever they were around each other.
When Liam came down to that floor, he caught sight of the pair from afar. He slowed down and eventually came to
a halt.
There was a flash of confusion in his eyes as he stared at Jayson and Ariel, who sat pretty close to each other.
He knew Jayson, naturally. The man was the famed CEO of Bluum Corp. The elders of the Larkin family and the Spencer family were close friends too.
Liam and Jayson were not close. Still, he could not help but wonder what Jayson was doing here.
Leonard’s liver transplant operation was the only operation being conducted in the operating room that day.
He pondered, “So… Jayson is waiting with Ariel for Leonard?”
Liam had a slightly surprised look in his eyes. Were Jayson and Ariel that close?.
Liam had a pensive look on his face. However, he didn’t approach the pair.
Ariel would shift slightly in her seat from time to time since she had been sitting there for hours. Sometimes, she would notice Jayson was looking down and replying to certain messages on his phone.
His face showed no expression. However, the faint sounds of him typing on his phone had somehow managed to get rid of the anxious, restless feelings that filled Ariel during the long wait.

The faint noises coming from the side occasionally disrupted any worrying thoughts she had.
Fortunately, the operation ended earlier than expected.
Isaac was clearly a bit exhausted when he came out of the operating foom. Ariel hurried toward him. “How did it
go
Isaac beamed. “The operation went pretty smoothly. Don’t worry, Ms. Walker. Now, we’ll just have to wait for Mr. Walker to wake up after the anaesthetic wears off. He should be up within the next 24 hours.”
Ariel felt the heavy weight over her heart was finally lifted she bent forward slightly and supported herself by leaning against the wall, as she was feeling so drained. “Thank you so much for your hard work.”
“You’re welcome.”
Before leaving, Isaac cast a glance in Jayson’s direction. He kept getting the feeling that Jayson looked strangely familiar. However, he just could not recall where he had seen him before.
Eventually, Isaac fixed his gaze on Jayson and asked, “Sir, have we met each other before?”
Jayson turned his gaze toward Isaac. His eyes betrayed nothing. “I’ve been to this hospital several times.”
Upon hearing his reply, Isaac reckoned he had probably seen Jayson at the hospital before.
He did not think much of it. After giving a slight nod, Isaac walked away.
Ariel was not paying any attention to Jayson. The nurses soon moved Leonard out of the operating room and transferred him to the ICU to keep him under close observation.
Jayson took a glance at Ariel and followed her to the ICU.
With one hand in his pocket, Jayson stood there for a moment. Then, he left quietly. He did not stay there for too long.
By the time Ariel had completed the necessary procedures, Jayson was already gone. Ariel had no idea when he left since Jayson hadn’t said anything before leaving. As always, he did whatever he wanted, however he liked.
Some time later, Liam dropped by to check on Leonard after he was done with his work. He did not see Jayson this
time.
After checking Leonard’s vitals, he turned his gaze toward Ariel. “He’s fine now. Mr. Walker just needs to focus on recuperating during the coming days. As long as he doesn’t experience any symptoms of transplant rejection, he’s pretty much the same as a normal person now.”
Ariel felt much more relieved after hearing that.
“Thank you.” She had lost count of how many times she had thanked the medical staff that day.
Liam took off his mask. His eyes were unreadable as he asked suddenly, “Has Mr. Larkin already left?”
