Ariel could hear Nancy’s voice pretty clearly from her side.
Nancy had been extremely busy for the past few days trying to look for a way to save herself from the mess she
was in.
Still, Ariel did not move from her spot. She sat there quietly and continued to text Noah and other tech department members on her phone to discuss some technical issues.
Meanwhile, Nancy had dropped by the university to see Andre.
She felt that Jayson had given her a pretty decent suggestion. Nancy had tried various ways, but none of them had worked so far.
Andre was her supervisor. Moreover, he was cultured, gentle, and mild–mannered. Nancy felt that she could probably make use of that part about him to her advantage.
She had no choice but to give this a shot now since she had run out of options.
When he spotted Nancy, Andre closed the book he was holding.
“Is something the matter?”
Nancy pursed her lips and said in a calm voice, “Professor Jones, have you heard about the recent news…”
Andre nodded. “It’s what everyone’s been talking about. I’ve roughly heard about what happened.”
Nancy looked at him. “Veyo Solutions has failed to notice and prevent our employees‘ dishonest actions. I was even deceived by the main culprit. It triggered and led to many other serious problems afterward.
“Currently, Ariel insists on holding me accountable for what happened. I don’t think she’s making a sensible decision. I’d like to ask you… Could you perhaps speak to Mr. Carlos so that he could persuade Ariel to drop the case?”
While Nancy was in no position to ask for this favor from Carlos, Andre should be able to since he was Carlos‘ student.
Andre remained silent.
Nancy steeled herself and continued, “After all, you’re my supervisor. Meanwhile, Ariel is Mr. Carlos‘ student. For the dispute between us to escalate into a lawsuit, I’m worried about what others may say about you and Mr. Carlos if that happens.”
If things were to escalate even further, Carlos might end up gaining a lot of unwanted attention. It might even affect his reputation.
Andre’s expression hardened. “If Ariel hadn’t managed to present the evidence to prove her innocence, what would you have done in that situation then? Did you consider how things would look for me and Mr. Carlos?”
Nancy was rendered speechless. She furrowed her brows.
“For researchers like us, the one thing we do not want to see is our work being disparaged or discredited. Even the university has learned about the incident. Plagiarism, violation of patent rights, defamation, and now a civil lawsuit! All of those are very severe crimes!”
Andre was livid. He had a frigid expression on his face. “You should leave. I won’t be able to help you, and I’m afraid I can’t be your supervisor anymore either!”

Nancy’s face turned slightly pale. “Professor Jones, what do you mean by that?”

Andre cast her a stony gaze. “This incident involves several serious criminal offences. I’m afraid I’ll be criticized harshly for accepting someone like you as my student. You should look for another supervisor to guide you!”
Without saying another word, Andre walked away expressionlessly.
Nancy had the audacity to ask him to talk to Carlos about persuading Ariel to drop the case. Andre could not possibly bring himself to do that, especially when Ariel had been falsely accused from the start.
Nancy was left absolutely flabbergasted as she stood riveted to the spot.
She had not expected things to turn out like this. Andre had decided not to be her supervisor anymore!
That meant she would also lose the opportunity to enter and study at the research institute.
Nancy was in a daze. Her face darkened.
She thought Andre would not forsake a student of her talent and caliber for someone like Ariel, who was unrelated to him. Andre should have tried to help her since he wouldn’t want to lose someone talented like Nancy.
Yet, she ended up irking Andre instead.
Nancy had imagined the worst thing that could happen was Andre refusing to help mediate between her and Ariel. She never thought Andre would suddenly decide not to be her supervisor anymore.
Nancy was caught completely off guard.
It took her quite a while as she waited for the ringing in her ears to die down.
When she took a few steps forward, Nancy finally spotted Ariel, who sat somewhere not too far away.
A cold light gleamed in her eyes. Nancy fixed Ariel with a malevolent gaze.
Meanwhile, Ariel stood up with an impassive look on her face. Without sparing Nancy a single glance, she turned around and headed for where Carlos was.
Once Ariel had moved out of sight, Nancy’s face twisted into a grimace.
Ariel overheard the entire process of how she had tried to persuade Andre to help her, only to be told that he would not be Nancy’s supervisor anymore.
She must have seemed like a joke to Ariel!
Nancy took a deep breath. She had lost her final option as well. Nancy had been driven into a corner.
As she curled her fingers into fists, Nancy tried to consider if there were some other ways for her to resolve the
situation.
Ariel couldn’t be bothered to find out what Nancy would do to get out of her current predicament. Once the police had prepared everything and submitted the case for the prosecution stage, it would be over for Nancy.
As Veyo Solutions‘ leader, she played a part in spreading false accusations against Faye Technologies and caused them to lose quite a number of clients and business opportunities. That was enough for Faye Technologies to Jaunch a civil lawsuit against her.
After Ariel had shared the latest progress on the incident, Carlos did not seem overly worried. He and Ariel discussed a certain research topic for about an hour. Then, he let Ariel get back to work.
