Chapter 446
Ariel was shocked. For a brief moment, her eyes reflected her amusement.
Evelyn wanted her to help clear Nancy’s name so that they could put an end to people’s discussion and speculation regarding the
incident.
Evelyn could roughly tell how Ariel felt about her request. Still, she said calmly, “I’m not saying that because I want you to help Nancy. Instead, it’s for Jayson’s sake. He’s your husband, after all.
“While most people would think Nancy was the one trying to approach Jayson, some might make other speculations. You’ve worked in public relations before. You know very well how to resolve the issue in the most cost–effective way, don’t you?”
Even rumors or speculations circulated among a small group of people could potentially damage Jayson’s reputation.
Evelyn did not want him to be affected by this incident in the slightest. 1
Besides, Ariel was Jayson’s wife. She was obligated to consider the matter by taking into account what was best for Jayson. Wouldn’t it be better for them to think about the bigger picture when solving the current issue?
Ariel looked at Evelyn calmly. She could see how much Evelyn placed her personal and family interests above everything else.
Unfortunately, they needed Ariel to make some sacrifices this time for the sake of their interests. Evelyn had made that request of Ariel despite knowing she was being cruel and unreasonable.
Ariel let out a long sigh. Then, she directed her gaze to Evelyn and said monotonously, “I’m not the reason why Jayson’s and the Larkin family’s reputations are suffering at the moment.
“You should be talking to the person who’s caused all this. Or you should advise those people who actually needed the advice not to do things like that instead of making me step forward and cover up for them.”
Ariel didn’t try to gloss over her words. She rejected Evelyn’s request straightforwardly and even pointed out the actual source of the problem.
If it were before, Ariel might have chosen to hold back and tolerate Evelyn’s actions, since the latter was her mother–in–law.
But what did she have to do with any of this? Shouldn’t the Larkins reflect on what happened instead?
Evelyn was caught slightly off guard.
A frown creased her forehead as she stared at Ariel’s impassive face. Evelyn could clearly see the changes in Ariel’s manner and attitude. She was so different from the mild–mannered Ariel that Evelyn could recall in her memories.
Ariel did not bother trying to act friendly. She stood up and said politely, “You can take your time and enjoy the tea before you leave.”
She paid no mind to Evelyn’s reaction and went to her desk. Ariel had no intention of continuing the conversation.
Evelyn could see it as well. She wasn’t planning on forcing Ariel to accept her request. She rose from her seat and gave Ariel a long, good look. Then, Evelyn turned around and left.
As soon as Evelyn exited the room, Ariel’s eyes hardened. She looked down at the phone lying next to her hand.
After a while, she picked it up and scrolled through the contact list. Then, Ariel called a number that wasn’t saved with a name.
When the line got through, Ariel could hear a deep, low voice through her phone. “What’s wrong?”
That was the first thing the person said during the call. He knew very well Ariel wouldn’t call him unless it was absolutely
necessary.
Ariel pressed her lips together. Her voice was devoid of warmth and emotion. “You can handle the news involving you and Nancy however you want. Just don’t pester me about it. Your mother came to see me just now and asked me to come forward and help resolve the issue. You should do something about it.”

Ariel was certain Jayson knew what he needed to do regarding the situation.
Jayson paused for a few seconds. “Sure. You needn’t concern yourself with it.”
Ariel hung up right away since she had gotten a clear response from him. She quickly put the matter behind her. She had no time to spare as she needed to focus on solving some technical issues.
After leaving Faye Technologies‘ building, Evelyn received a call from Jayson, asking her to stop by Larkin Manor today.
Evelyn had a pensive look in her eyes. However, she didn’t refuse Jayson’s request.
Renee had also returned to the manor.
She had just found out about the incident involving Nancy. Renee was extremely shocked and upset.
She couldn’t understand why Jayson did what he did when he had so many different ways to handle and resolve the situation.
