Chapter 448
For three days, Nancy handled her work for Veyo Solutions from home as she waited for the controversy to die down a little.
With so many things happening every day, people would soon forget about this incident once some time had passed.
This time, Jayson had helped her resolve a major crisis. Most of the online posts about her had been removed from the internet. It made Nancy feel much relieved.
While those posts were mostly attacks aimed at her, Nancy knew very well that Jayson was troubled by the situation too.
No matter how tough the situation might be, Jayson had always found a way to help solve the problem and made sure that Nancy wouldn’t be harmed in the slightest.
Gradually, people would realize that Ariel meant absolutely nothing to Jayson and that they should choose to side with whom they should.
On Thursday, Nancy dropped by her office.
She had made an appointment a while back to meet with a client on that day. Around 3:00 pm, Nancy arrived at the client’s company building.
However, the client’s secretary smiled and informed her. “I’m sorry, Ms. Stanton. Mr. Ingram said that the proposal you’ve given us has several issues that need correction, Time is precious for both of our companies, Ms. Stanton. We hope your team will put in a bit more effort in their work.”
Nancy knitted her brows. She was quite surprised to get this response from the client. All along, they never encountered any issues while liaising with the client’s team.
“Didn’t your team already approve of the proposal the last time we spoke?” Nancy was rather displeased. Yet, she did not let those emotions show on her face.
The client’s secretary replied calmly, “That was then. We would like to inform you about the issues that we have only recently become aware of. If you refuse to make the necessary changes, we may have to reconsider our partnership.”
Nancy pressed her lips together. She could tell that her client was doing this on purpose. However, she couldn’t possibly start yelling at her client’s secretary and risk having this partnership fall apart. “Alright. I’ll let my team know and have them fix
those issues first.”
“Thanks for stopping by today, Ms. Stanton. You can come by again once those issues are fixed, then.”
Nancy had a frigid expression on her face as she came out of the building. She could clearly observe the change in her client’s
attitude.
They had been very accommodating and respectful to Nancy from the start. The negotiations had progressed smoothly. Yet, they were nitpicking about the tiniest flaws in their proposal now.
Since returning from abroad, this was likely the most difficult hurdle Nancy had ever faced. She could sense the difference in the way she was being treated even though her client’s secretary had spoken to her fairly politely just now.
Nancy’s mood soured. She knew very well what brought about these subtle changes. Previously, these people treated her with respect since they assumed she would soon become Jayson’s wife.
Yet, with Ariel coming into the picture, a lot of things would proceed according to standard protocols from now on.
Matt had organized a gathering that evening. After a few moments consideration, Nancy decided to attend the gathering.
The gathering was held at a club. Some people were already there by the time she got there.
The other guests didn’t act any differently when they saw Nancy. In their circle, these incidents weren’t that big of a deal. In the end, it all came down to whether Jayson actually cared that much about Nancy.

“You’re here?” Matt glanced over his shoulder at Nancy. “Jayson will be here in a bit. Do you want a drink?”
Nancy nodded. Wendy came up to her just as she had taken a seat. Nancy?”
Nancy smiled when she saw Wendy. “Where’s Mr. Sanderson? Is here with
you today?”
Wendy beamed warmly. “He’s talking about some funds with a few people over there. I have no interest in the topic, though.” Nancy directed her gaze to Wendy’s tummy. She could hardly tell that Wendy was pregnant with how slim the latter was.
“Regarding you and Mr. Larkin…” Wendy didn’t bring up the topic directly. “You shouldn’t concern yourself with what others have to say. After all, people can see how clever and capable you are. Ariel couldn’t possibly compare to you. Even her academic qualifications are lower than yours.”
Nancy met Wendy’s gaze. She hadn’t expected Wendy to offer her these words of comfort.
“Don’t worry. Jayson and I are quite alright.” She didn’t elaborate too much.
Wendy handed her a drink. “I thought so. Mr. Larkin couldn’t possibly have any special feelings for Ariel. After all, who would like an unfaithful woman? I believe things will work out for you and Mr. Larkin eventually.”
