Chapter 500
“Ms. Stanton, I expect to see results that satisfy me” Evelyn said. She didn’t bother to stay a second longer.
Lately, things had already spun out of control.
Since Jayson hadn’t agreed to deal with Nancy and was still intent on protecting her, Evelyn had decided to make the trip herself. If Nancy refused to fall in line, Evelyn had no problem using other methods.
She didn’t even bother to take a sip of coffee before turning to leave. Her gaze was cold and distant.
Her manner might have seemed calm on the surface, but there was a sharp edge beneath it.
Nancy would have to be a fool not to realize Evelyn had other ways of handling her. For all she knew, Evelyn might even meddle in the lawsuit.
In the past few weeks, Nancy had tasted a humiliation unlike any she had ever known before.
She had been born into wealth and pampered since childhood.
Surrounded by a refined artistic environment and gifted in talent, she was always at the top of her class. She had made it into an elite university and was admired by everyone along the way.
Yet now, she was being treated with such blatant disregard?
Wasn’t Ariel the one in the wrong? She was the one who refused to let go of Jayson. If she had even the tiniest shred of self–respect, she would have left the battlefield that was never hers and parted
on good terms.
Instead, she had resorted to petty tricks born out of being unloved, dragging things to this
ridiculous state.
Nancy drew in a long breath. The frustration boiling inside her made it hard to keep her expression
neutral.
She would probably have to put the house mortgage plans on hold for now.
If Evelyn wanted to target her, actually going through with the mortgage could cause trouble later.
Nancy felt like she had been forced to the edge of a cliff, with nothing but drop–offs on both sides.
As for Evelyn’s request for her to cut ties with Jaysen, Nancy wasn’t stupid. A man like Jayson was impossible for Evelyn to control. If he wanted to project Nancy, nothing would stop him.
After a long pause, Nancy finally raised her head and looked toward the distance a new thought formed in her mind.
When Ariel picked up a call from an unfamiliar landine, she heard Evelyn’s voice. “Do you have time? Can you come home today?”

Ariel slowed the motion of sorting her files. Something unreadable flickered in her eyes. “Is there something you need?”
Evelyn’s tone was neutral. “I want to talk to you about Nancy.”
This time, Ariel actually found it amusing.
Before she could say anything, Evelyn went on, “You’ve always been pretty passive about these things. You’re Jayson’s legal wife. It’s not hard for you to deal with outsiders like her, and it would be more natural coming from you. I’ll help you win Jayson over.”
For a moment, Ariel thought she must have misheard because it was too absurd.
Evelyn had never interfered in matters like this before.
If anything, she believed Ariel didn’t measure up to the Larkin family–that her background, abilities, and family status weren’t worthy of Jayson. In her eyes, Jayson had been “forced into the marriage“, and she was convinced that Ariel had schemed her way into marrying up.
And now, Evelyn was offering to help her win Jayson over?
Ariel instantly understood that Evelyn’s stance was shaped by her careful weighing of pros and
cons.
She set the file aside and said evenly, “Maybe you’ve forgotten, but you were the one who thought Nancy, with her top–of–the–class record, impressive education, and polished artistic background, was the better candidate to carry on the Larkin family’s good genes. I simply stepped aside for your plan.”
Evelyn froze.
Ariel knew the recent chaos had probably pushed Evelyn to speak up, but there had to be other reasons she couldn’t sit still anymore.
“If there’s nothing else, I need to get back to work,” Ariel said, unwilling to waste time with pleasantries.
After hanging up, she couldn’t help but shake her head with a sneer.
If Evelyn ever found out that she and Jayson were already divorced and that he was infatuated with the scandal–ridden Nancy and might even want to marry her, she would probably be even more
anxious.
