Although Sarah was smiling, there was an unmistakable look of smugness and arrogance in her eyes.
Ariel’s lips were pressed into a thin line. Her face showed no expression. She did not even respond to Sarah.
She just could not bring herself to smile and greet the person who had stabbed Elena in the back and caused her life to be completely ruined.
Matt was disgruntled. “Mrs. Stanton is talking to you. Shouldn’t you at least say something?”
Perry remained silent.
From what he could tell, Ariel was someone who would not hesitate to show her likes and dislikes. For her to display such obvious signs of aversion and indifference, they were probably people who were unkind to her or people she despised a lot. For instance, people like them, who were Jayson’s friends…
“It’s alright. This is just how she is. It’s no big deal.” As an elder, Sarah appeared generous and forgiving. She acted as if they had never had any bad blood between them.
“We’re having a party to celebrate us moving to our new place. Would you like to join us?”
Ariel cast a glance at Jayson, who remained expressionless. If it weren’t for him making the arrangements, there was no way Sarah would have been able to return to their country and settle down here so quickly.
Ariel found it ironic.
Sarah was acting as if nothing had happened after what she had done to Elena in the past. Those who didn’t know better might have really assumed that she was just a kind, friendly lady.
Ariel’s gaze drifted toward the banquet hall. The place was packed with people, mostly prominent figures from
the business world.
Jayson clearly did a huge favor for Sarah by throwing such a huge party. Even though Ariel had been married to him for so many years, Jayson had never bothered to offer Katie and Leonard this level of respect or special
treatment.
Ariel remembered the gift box that was left in Jayson’s car trunk earlier. It was probably a gift he had prepared specially for Nancy and Sarah.
“Ari is really busy. She doesn’t have the time to act friendly with her husband’s mistress. So, we won’t take up any more of your time.”
Janice had walked to Ariel’s side and linked arms with her. She was rolling her eyes, trying her best to look intimidating.
Sarah knitted her brows as she found Janice’s words distasteful. She pondered, “Is this the type of people Ariel has around her?”
There was an unreadable look on his face as Jayson cast Janice a sidelong glance.
Ariel–noticed the stony gaze coming from him. She worried that Janice might end up getting unwanted trouble. So, she quickly tugged at Janice’s arm to stop her.
Meanwhile, Matt and Perry dropped their jaws in bewilderment. One of them was about to say something, yet

Nancy waved her hand dismissively. She decided not to argue with Ariel or Janice.
Nancy appeared quite calm. She simply thought the two ladies were acting tough since that was the only way they could salvage their pride.
Moreover, Nancy did not welcome Ariel’s presence at all. She turned her eyes to Sarah. “Mom, you should head in first.”
Sarah directed her gaze to Jayson. “Jayson, I’ll need your help introducing me to some of the guests so I can get to know them. I wouldn’t want to be rude to anyone.”
Jayson nodded. “Sure.”
Matt grinned and followed behind them. “I’ll help you with that, Mrs. Stanton. It’s definitely a pleasure for everyone here to get to know you.‘
Sarah beamed broadly upon hearing his words. Her mood improved noticeably.
Ariel had no intention of speaking to those people. She dragged Janice along as she strode off.
Jayson looked at Ariel’s receding figure for a brief moment. Then, he turned around, looking completely unbothered.
Nancy snorted inaudibly when she saw Jayson’s reaction.
It seemed to her that Ariel had chosen to flee from them in fear. Ariel knew she would only embarrass herself if she stayed around. After all, the losers were often the ones who felt undeserving of their position.
After exiting the hotel, Janice put her hands on her waist and made a face as if she was about to gag.
“How utterly shameless! Those who don’t know better probably think that Jayson Larkin is her son–in–law! That pair of mother and daughter looked at you, the wife, as if you were the homewrecker instead. Jayson’s surely given their ego a huge boost!”
Those people acted as if Ariel should be the one keeping herself out of their sight!
Ariel patted Janice’s back to calm her down.
“It’s fine. We’re getting divorced anyway.” Ariel sounded relatively calm.
Janice spat, “She’ll always be his mistress as long as you two haven’t completed the divorce procedures! She’s the typical bitch who’ll say nonsense like there is no right or wrong in love!”
Ariel hurriedly covered Janice’s mouth.
Others might overhear what they were saying. It might bring them trouble if Jayson’s group were to find out what she just said.
Janice’s face was set in an angry scowl. As she stepped on the gas pedal, she kept yelling at the cars that were trying to cut in line.
Ariel held back from stopping Janice, understanding she needed to vent, a moment that was broken by Chad’s incoming call.

Chad was trying to make it sound exciting and mysterious. “I think you’re going to love it.”
