The new girl instantly became the center of attention.
Her white, low cut lace dress perfectly hugged her curves.
The moment the clock hit 5, guys from our department–and even others–swarmed around her, trying to strike up a
conversation.
Only Lucas didn’t join the crowd.
He closed his laptop and walked over to me.
Smiling like always, “Emily, what are you waiting for? Let’s head home,”
In the car, I asked him, “Don’t you think the new girl is pretty and has a great figure?”
Lucas smirked. “Looks are just surface–level. Who cares if she’s pretty?”
“She’s still just a guy–chaser.”
I frowned. His words rubbed me the wrong way.
He didn’t notice.
“Don’t you dare start acting like her, relying on men instead of working hard yourself.”

The next day, back at the office, everyone was still fawning over her.
I was surprised to see she hadn’t stayed at her assigned desk. She’d moved her stuff.
She chose to sit right next to Lucas.
With a bright smile, she reached out her hand to him.
“Looking forward to working with you, newbie.”
I glanced at Lucas.
He didn’t hesitate to shake her hand.
She turned to me, following my gaze to their intertwined hands.
She raised an eyebrow, her smile widening.

After work. I was organizing files for the next day.
As usual. I stood by the office entrance, waiting for Lucas to walk home with me.
Time dragged on, and I grew confused.

When he didn’t reply to my texts, I went back to his desk.
He was still there, the new girl holding his hand, playfully swinging it.
I knocked on the desk, and both of them looked up.
