Chapter 85

Alpha Gabe

I can’t say as anything surprises me any more, but now I was stumped. One of the trackers came back and told me they had found something. They followed the tracks and it led to a cinder block building that had no windows. It was locked up tighter than a drum and since it was night time, they didn’t want to risk anyone getting injured in a trap, so several came back to report to me, while several others continued the

perimeter search. They were leaving lookouts to watch the building out of sight, taking turns on the watch. They had used scent masking spray in the event someone came along, they wouldn’t know they were still around. Luck was on our side that a soft snowfall had begun, covering the tracks that my wolves had made searching around the building

When daylight came, we would try to figure out what was going on with that building. It was odd that a wolf could potentially be hiding in that building. It was on a piece of land owned by a human rancher that I personally knew. The old man kept maybe fifty head of cattle. He and his son took care of the place, and he rarely made it out past his fenced area where he kept his cattle, particularly in winter. He told me once that he’d seen to many wolves in the area to risk running around in the woods alone. I chuckled to myself the day he told me that. Keep them scared and they will either try to attack you or stay far away. Old man Duffy would stay away, of that I was sure. So what the hell was going on in that building on his land? We were going to have to find out, one way or another

The next morning, as soon as the sun cast just enough light to see by, the Lone Wolf pack warriors began circling the cinder block building, looking for any clue as to what was going on there. The smell of the Wyoming pack lingered but was faint. If the snow continued to fall, it may disappear all together

Alpha Gabe

I decided we would have to do something quick if we wanted to figure out what was going on and why my pack and its members were being targeted. I knew about the phone call from Wyatt the night before, but it didn’t make sense, considering I had no issue with the Wyoming pack. I knew who did though. The Godsend Pack. They had long been warring with them. It was going on for decades. I had an uncanny feeling that they had someone played a part in this

I typically didn’t enjoy using fire power that could hurt the land or people around it, but we needed to get through that door. It was steel and heavily bolted. I also wanted to go talk with Old man Duffy, see if he knew anything or had seen anything suspicious. Chances were, that would be a dead end. I figured to keep him from being nosy, I’d tell him that we saw a huge wolf and it attacked one of my cows and we’d chased it onto his property. I’d let him know we were hunting it. Knowing how fearful he was, he’d stay away. After I went to speak to him and he assured me he hadn’t seen anything, I asked him about the cinder block building. He told me it used to be an old milk barn on the original homestead over a hundred years ago, but he never ventured out that far so he didn’t even know it was still suitable condition. He told me he didn’t care if it got destroyed in my hunt for the big wolf, so long as I killed it so it wouldn’t bother his cattle. I told him we were setting a trap and to stay far away, because I planned to blow up some stuff to trap the wolf. His eyes were big as saucers, as he nodded in understanding. His son happened to be away, hauling some cattle down to Texas for slaughter, so he was alone and wouldn’t be bothering us

During the night, as the warriors and scouts checked the perimeter, they noticed that the scents they were catching were different. They smelled two packs, potentially even three. The third scent was to faint to know if it was recent or not. They definitely smelled the Wyoming pack, but they also caught wind of some Godsend Pack wolves. It was reported back to me as I was working on gathering explosives to blow the door off that outbuilding. I figured it was time to give the Alpha of the Wyoming pack a call. I wondered if he knew what was going on with his pack, and if he did, was he intentionally targeting my pack for a reason unbeknownst to me? I was about to find out

I picked up the phone and dialed. It was answered on the first ring. Alpha Garrett here, how can I help you Alpha Gabe? There was absolutely no indication he had a clue what I was calling about, just based on the sound of his voice. He sounded friendly, like he did every time we spoke. My brows creased as I took a deep breath before I spoke. We’ve got a problem Garrett, and I’m hoping you can help?”

Sure thing, whatcha need?Still friendly. I could tell this was about to get even more interesting and confusing. Time to get some answers and end this nonsense
