Dawson
I’m pacing in my apartment, waiting for Ashlynn to get back from town. I don’t think I’ve ever had so much amped up energy since my wolf was young. I’m not sure if I should go for a run or take a cold shower. My heart is racing with anticipation and my wolf is pacing in my head, just like I’m pacing in my living room. I tell myself that maybe I should hop in my truck and head to town to find her. I shake that off, thinking how that will make me look like a stalker. Time seems to be passing super slow.
In a sigh of exasperation, I decide to go tend to the horses. I told the ranch hands they could have the rest of the day off. I throw on my boots and a flannel over my black t–shirt and make my way out to where the horses are turned out. I toss some hay bales over each fence and come back to check all the troughs, dragging the garden hose back and forth around the yard. I’m finishing up filling the troughs, when I catch the scent of something. Or someone. The scent is familiar to me but I’m not sure why. I glance around the pastures and look behind me towards the stables. Nothing. I just shake my head wondering if I imagined it.
I’m winding up the garden hose and hanging it back up over the hook on the side of the hay barn. The wind shifts, and I catch the scent again. Now I know I didn’t imagine anything. Our werewolf smell is pretty strong and I’ve no doubt that there is a wolf here somewhere, that doesn’t belong here. I start scoping the mountains and tree line for something, anything to give me a clue as to who it is and where they are. My hackles are raised and my wolf is pushing to get out and hunt whoever is lurking. Well shit, I mutter and head for the trees. Once I’m there, I strip down and shift, letting my wolf take over.
My wolf tears through the forest, chasing the scent. It’s definitely another wolf and it’s a female. It’s not Ashlynn. I know that for sure. I’d know her scent anywhere. Rain.
It’s like this wolf knows she’s being followed and is intentionally slipping between trees, like it’s a game. The wolf is not trying very hard to get away. As I crest over the mountain, I see her. It’s a smaller silver and grey wolf. I instantly know
who she is. I send her a mind–link.
“What are you doing here? You’re pretty far from town.”
She starts prowling towards me like I’m her prey. I’m easily three times her size, so I am not sure what she thinks she’s going to accomplish. My wolf sits on his hind legs just watching her. She starts circling us, then comes around and stops in front of me, sitting back on her hind legs too.
I came to see you, didn’t you enjoy the chase?” Even through the mind link I can hear her smirk.
I’m going to ask you again, why are you here?”
She decides at that moment to shift back to her human form. Standing naked before me is Bonnie Cage. She’s a waitress at the cafe in town. We dated like ten years ago when I first moved here. I’ve rarely seen her since, except when I go to the diner, which is about twice a year. She’s not my type at all, and she sleeps with pretty much anyone who will have her. She ended up having a pup a couple years ago with some wolf over at the Godsend ranch.
Bonnie saunters towards me. “Shift please.” She whispers near my wolves ear. He growls at her to get away. I’m not sure what my wolf has in mind, he doesn’t like her, or her scrawny wolf. I decide I better shift back to have this conversation and get her off our land.
I’m now standing about five fee from Bonnie, butt naked, asking myself why I even bothered coming up here. “Ok Bonnie, why are you here? You shouldn’t be snooping around the Alpha’s property. You know he doesn’t like that.”

Chapter 24
Bonnie shifts her feet and then raises her hand and touches her breast, toying with her nipple. “I don’t think he will find out Dawson. You won’t tell him.” She takes a step closer. She licks her lips, “I came to bring you a gift.”
I just shake my head, not interested one bit in her gift. “Bonnie, you need to leave. Now.”
She closes the distance, placing her hand on my chest. “It’s been forever, hasn’t it? I was thinking maybe we could start
back up where we left off.”
I remove her hand from my chest. “Bonnie, we haven’t had anything together in ten years. I don’t know what you think you’re doing, but I’m not interested. And besides, don’t you have a wolf over at the Godsend Ranch?”
Bonnie waves her hand dismissively. “Oh him, he doesn’t care. He doesn’t mind sharing.” Bonnie goes to put her hand back on my chest and I step back.
“I don’t honestly know what has prompted your visit, but you need to go. It’s the last time I’m telling you. The next time will be the Alpha coming up here. I hope that’s clear enough for you Bonnie.”
Bonnie puts her lip out in a pout. “I met your new veterinarian in town today. She was in the diner.”
I raise my eyebrow, wondering where this is going.
“She’s pretty. But she seems uptight. You know she won’t give you what I can.” Bonnie still has a pouting look on her face.
Shaking my head at her, “I don’t know why you think she’s mine, but whatever you are trying to do, you should stop. I’m not interested in you, never will be. And stay away from Ashlynn. She doesn’t need you or your crazy ass friends bothering
her.”
I shift back into my wolf, and mind link her to do the same. Bonnie stands there playing with a strand of her hair, she gives me a mischievous smile. She shifts and runs off into the mountains towards the ridge. I see her at the top, she turns and takes one look back and then disappears over the other side. Great, I think. Just what I need, some crazy she–wolf coming around trying to cause trouble. Usually everything around here stays quiet and drama free. I have a feeling I
haven’t seen the last of Bonnie.
