Chapter 26
My curiosity was peaked. “Is that so? What kind of trouble would that be? And why on earth would she be jealous of me?” I laugh at that and it comes out as a snort, which only makes me laugh harder.
Dawson clearly didn’t think it was funny. “Plenty Ashlynn. She’s got plenty to be jealous of. You’re gorgeous, smart, hard working and you’re an Alpha. She’s none of those things.” He reached over and placed his hand on top of mine, rubbing the back of it with his thumb. I felt the sparks running up my arm instantly.
Dawson looked into my eyes, “I spoke to your Uncle today.”
I raised my eyebrow again. “Do tell?”
“Well actually, it went better than I expected,” He smiles while running his hand along the back of his neck. “He gave me the go ahead to date you, I mean so long as you want to date me.”
I laughed at that, “Of course he did. What’s he going to say Dawson? I told you, he knows I’m a grown woman.”
“Regardless, I don’t want to piss off the Alpha. And for the record, he did tell me that if I hurt you, he’d hurt me,” Dawson looked slightly conflicted about that, but kept a half smile on his face. “I told him it would probably be you who hurt me.”
I laughed, like really laughed out loud. I swatted his arm. “I cannot believe you would say that. I’ve never hurt any one in my life. I can assure you of that.”
Dawson suddenly stood and pulled me into his arms, hugging me to his chest tight. I breathed in his smell, woodsy and leather. I remembered it from the wolf I had seen in the woods when we were driving here that day, and it dawned on me at that moment, he had been watching me walk my horses around the day we arrived here. I pulled back. “Umm I just thought of something. Were you in the woods in wolf form, the day we came here. At the truck stop. Watching me?” He chuckled. It was deep in his throat and sent shivers through me.
“I was, yes. I saw you when you pulled in to get gas, and then I saw you go park and start getting out your horses to stretch. I just wanted to get a better look at you.” He was rubbing my back in circles. It was soothing and made me want to melt into him.
“Ok, Stalker.” I laughed.
Dawson pulled back and looked me in the eyes, “So our date tomorrow. Be ready at 5p?”
“Yeah, sounds good. Is this good night then?” I asked, my arms still wrapped lightly around his waist.
Dawson gave me one of his easy smiles, his dimples showing. “I figure we both need some rest after the week we’ve had. I want to be up early to go take care of some things before our date. I plan to keep you out all night.”
“Oh do you now? Well this better be good to keep me out all night Dawson Campbell.” I gave him a smile and pulled back. He leaned down and gave me a teasing little kiss, nipping at my lower lip.
“See you tomorrow gorgeous.” Dawson walked out the door, leaving me with a stupid grin on my face. I looked at the clock, we’d been chatting for over an hour. It was nearing ten o’clock. I shook my head at myself, locked the door, turned out the lights and went to bed. I was looking forward to tomorrow. I hadn’t been on an actual date in years.
