Cody
I’m sitting in my office, looking through video footage of last night. It’s hard to say even what time this happened. We know it was after 9 p.m. and before 1 a.m., so that ‘s four hours of video footage to review, on fifteen cameras. I haven’t slept more than three hours, I haven’t showered and I haven’t shaved. I rub my hand over my eyes and down my face, feeling the stubble on my chin. My vision is blurry at this point, I should probably go get some more sleep. I lean back in my chair, my hands behind my head and close my eyes for a minute. I hear a soft knock on the door, and my eyes snap open. I look at the clock, shit, I must of knocked off for an hour, sitting just like I was when I shut my eyes. “Come in,” I’rasp out.
Carolyn walks in, dressed in jeans and a soft blue t–shirt, that brings out the blue of her eyes. She’s carrying a cup of coffee, which she sits down in front of me on the desk. “I thought you could use some coffee, she sets herself into the chair in front of my desk. “Have you slept?”
“Ehh, I can sleep when I’m dead,” I joke.
Carolyn doesn’t think it’s funny in the slightest. “Really though Cody, you should sleep. It’s not healthy to go this long without sleep. You’re not doing anyone any favors. At some point, your brain stops working properly.” Her eyes are soft and searching mine for something, though I’m not sure what that something is.
“Carolyn, you make my brain stop working properly, especially when you stare at me with those eyes,” I tell her while I sip my coffee. She turns three shades of pink.
Carolyn suddenly stands up, comes around to the side of the desk and extends her hand. “Come on. Let’s put you to bed. I already told the Alpha and he agreed, you need sleep.” I grab her hand, excited that she’s the one putting me to bed, my mind going to all kinds of inappropriate places. I haven’t been with a woman in such a long time, just the thought of it has my wolf panting in my head. Not that I couldn’t have had any number of she–wolves around here, I just wasn’t interested.
Carolyn pulls me out the door of my office and down the stairs. I barely take any notice of the activity around me. Not a lot of work is going on today, just scouts out sniffing the stables and the property lines for clues. Our security is on high alert. No one can leave or enter the pack land without first being checked by the patrols. The sun is high in the sky and its blinding my tired and dry eyes. Carolyn leads me by the hand like a little boy, and right into my house. She pulls me up the stairs, then turns to me with a questioning look on her face. “Which room?”
“Huh?” It doesn’t even register, that’s how tired I am.
“Which room is yours?” she asks. Oh. Duh. I point to the door on the right, and she pulls me in there. Carolyn leads me to the bed, and pushes me down to a sitting position on the edge. She kneels in front of me and pulls off my boots. She then stands and pulls my shirt off over my head. She pulls me to standing. “Take them off,” she points to my jeans. My eyes go wide at her demand.
“Cody, stop it, I’m just trying to get you comfortable so you can rest well.” She’s blushing again, and damn it’s the cutest thing. I undo my buckle on my belt and unbutton my jeans and let them fall to the floor. Carolyn pulls back the comforter and motions for me to lay down. I kick my jeans to the side, standing there in my boxers. I climb into bed as she has instructed, and she pulls the comforter up over me, then walks to the window and closes the curtains against the bright mid day sun. The room is now in near darkness, just light coming in through the open door.
“Lay with me,” I ask her. She seems hesitant at first. “Please,” I say and then let out a big yawn.
“Ok, she walks to the other side of the bed, kicks off her shoes and lays down on top of the comforter. I reach over and pull her to me, her head on my chest. I can smell her shampoo, or maybe it’s her. It’s vanilla and sugar, soft and sweet. Like her. I place my arm around her and before I know it, I have drifted off to sleep, with this amazing woman in my arms.
Carolyn
I’m generally shy, even before I was mated/After what I went through, most men make me nervous. Cody doesn’t. There is something about him that makes me feel safe. I’m hesitant when he asks me to lay down with him. But I can’t say no when he says please in his sleepy voice.
I kick off my shoes and slide onto the bed next to him. I’m on top of the comforter fully clothed, and he’s under it, in nothing but his boxers. I couldn’t help but check him out once I had him stripped. He’s a fine specimen, rippled muscles every where I looked. He has a fine spattering of hair on his chest. It’s light like his hair. He’s all man, and smells like pine. It’s intoxicating.

Chapter 40
When he pulls me close and I lay my head on his chest, I can hear his heart beating. It picks up a little as I feel him sniffing my hair. He wraps his arm around me and quickly drifts off to sleep. I’m afraid to move, he needs the sleep so badly. I didn’t get a lot of sleep myself. I decide Im just going to stay right where I am, and I to drift off to sleep.
