Chapter 42
Dawson
We are sitting in Cody’s office reviewing video footage from last night. We have gone through about two hours worth and so far nothing. I finally decide I should mention something to Cody regarding last night, so I take a deep breath to get his attention. He looks over at me with a questioning look, ‘Hey, so maybe you should know this. Bonnie has been showing up around here lately, acting all kinds of weird. She attacked Ashlynn on the run last night. I put an end to it and sent her on her way, but she gave me an earful about how she wants to be with me because I can take care of her.‘ I ran my hand through my hair, ready for Cody to ask a million and one questions, which is what he did.
“How long has this been going on for? And before you get into details, I’m going to need to know if you two had something going on or if this is out of the blue. Plus, doesn’t she have a mate in the Godsend pack?” He’s firing off the questions like bullets flying at me.
“Well we don’t have any thing going. I dated her ten years ago, you remember that. I did dance with her at the bar like last February, but it was one dance and I left. I don’t like the girl. Cody nods, encouraging me to go on.
“So she said something to Ashlynn when her and her Mom were at the cafe one day, like an off handed comment to tell me hello. She showed up here one night in the woods too, trying to seduce me or something. I told her to get off the land and stop or I’d tell the Alpha. I hadn’t seen or heard from her again till last night. Her and that wolf never marked each other, but they do have a pup. She’s looking for a way to stay in this pack, because the Alpha over there told her she had to pledge to him or not come back. I’d imagine he doesn’t want her bringing back his pack information to us,” I gave him what I knew.
“So do you think Bonnie is involved in what happened here last night?” Cody asks.
“I suppose it’s possible. It depends on what time it happened. She doesn’t know a thing about horses though, so I am not sure she’d have the guts to let them all out. But it did cross my mind,” I stand and start pacing. I have a ton of nervous energy now. I know we need to find some footage and soon.
Cody leans back in his chair. “I think you should tell the Alpha. Right now actually. Why don’t you go talk to him and I will finish looking through this footage. That’s an order.” He takes on his authority as the Beta, so I have no choice but to go. I nod and head to the door.
I walked to the main house and the Luna let me in. I walked down the hallway to the Alpha’s office, his door was open and he was sitting behind his desk working on some paperwork. He glanced up when I entered the doorway, “Come in Dawson, take a seat,” he motioned to the chairs in front of his desk. The Alpha finishes writing something on the paper he’s looking at, then drops the pen on the desk. “So any luck with finding out who let out the horses?”
“Actually Alpha, not yet. But I did want to tell you about a few incidents and I don’t know if it’s related to what happened or not, but we need to consider the possibility.” I leaned forward, my elbows on my knees.
“Go on then,” the Alpha is staring at me intently, waiting for me to spill the beans.
“Well sir….you know Bonnie, the she–wolf from our pack that works at the cafe?”
“Yes, Bonnie Cage. What about her?” Of course the Alpha knows her, he knows all of his pack members.
I proceed to tell him every minute detail about what has happened since Ashlynn arrived in town. He is fully aware that she’s got a pup with a wolf at the Godsend pack and that she spends a lot of time over there. He doesn’t seem surprised that the Alpha gave her an ultimatum either. As I finish, including telling him that someone was in my apartment and the X painted on the mirror, Alpha Gabe leans back in his chair, rubbing his chin in thought.
Finally, after sitting in silence for a solid five minutes, he reaches for the phone. I just sit patiently waiting for whatever is about to come. He dials a number and sits patiently waiting till someone answers. “Hello, Alpha Chris, it’s Alpha Gabe. Do you have a minute to discuss a certain she–wolf from my pack?” He’s waiting for a response. “Yeah that’s her.” They have a short conversation where it’s confirmed that Alpha Chris gave her an ultimatum and that as far as he knew, she was planning to follow through and that she was suppose to officially mate and mark the wolf she has the pup with. I felt relief but also concern. She was playing both ends of the fiddle, or so it would appear.
“So Dawson, what do you make of this?” he asks as he hangs up the phone. ‘I don’t understand why she’s coming after you and attacking Ashlynn, if what Alpha Chris said was true. Sounds to me like she’s playing either you or him?” I nod. I can’t argue it, I feel the same way.

Just then the phone rings and Alpha answers it. “You did? What is it? Ok, We will be right there.” He hangs up.
“Cody found something, we need to head to his office.” He stands and I follow. As he walks out the door, he turns back for a moment, “By the way, the tracker went in your apartment to investigate. The scent was not the same one they found near the stables, so whoever it was, they had help. Now I’m completely stumped.
