Alpha Gabe
I heard from Alpha Garrett early in the morning. He had all his warriors accounted for. He was pretty concerned that someone from his pack had been on our land, and seemingly alone. Upon further check, they could not figure out who it could be, so he decided he was going to come to me, to witness the take down of the steel door at the strange outbuilding.
We had our dynamite ready to go. The plan was to keep many of the warriors here at the pack territory. I didn’t want to leave it unprotected, in case this was a distraction. We were taking about twenty warriors with us, along with Cody and two scouts. The decision was made to leave Dawson behind, to be in charge and keep me posted on any events taking place here.
I waited for Garrett to arrive, it was a good two hour drive for him. He showed up with only five of his warriors, which led me to believe he was being honest about the entire thing. There was no way he would come this far from his territory with such a small number, if he was indeed involved. We exchanged brief pleasantries, then headed out to the Old Man’s property line. I had told him to stay away, that we would be blowing up his outbuilding. The building he said he didn’t know much about.
The sun was just coming up, leaving a pinkish hue to the sky. There were guards stationed all night, watching the outbuilding. They reported nothing suspicious. We made a wide perimeter, keeping our ears and eyes open. There were no new footprints found near the building, but the scent still lingered near the door. A mixture of the Godsend pack and the Wyoming Wolf pack. Garrett had a shocked look on his face when I took him near the door, catching a slight whiff of the smell of one of his own. He stood shaking his head in disbelief, pinching the bridge of his nose like it would make it all make sense if he just kept pinching.
Cody and my head warrior Dexter, were both experts in explosives. They wired up four small sections, one on each corner of the door, and then ran a line about 150 yards down wind of the door, to make sure the wind wouldn’t blow the explosion towards the person detonating it. I could see one of my scouts on top of the hill crest just to the East of us, still on the old mans property but close enough he could see if someone or something was trying to sneak up on us from over the hill. He mind linked me the all clear from his vantage point. Giving Cody and Dexter the nod, everyone moved back away from the building, out of the range of potential debris and blow back.
I watched as Cody lit the fuse and then ran back towards me, crouching low. Dexter checked that it wasn’t going to die out, then ran the opposite direction, taking cover behind a large boulder. There was an unusual quiet settled over the forest. You couldn’t even hear a bird chirp. In a loud boom, one after the other, the four bundles of dynamite exploded, leaving a haze over the scene. When the dust cleared, we could clearly see the steel door lying on the ground and a large opening in the cinder block wall. Surprisingly the building did not fall, showing just how good Cody and Dexter were at this. They knew exactly how much to use for the desired effect.
Once the dust settled, we all remained in place, just in case someone was going to come running out of the building. Nothing happened, and all we could see from where we were, was darkness beyond the opening. Slowly making our way towards the building, Dexter leading the way, we listened for any sounds. Dexter held up his hand motioning/for us to stop and listen, that’s when we heard it, the sound of whimpering inside the darkness. Dexter took out a flashlight. Even though/we have impeccable sight, we needed our eyes to adjust to the dark since we were coming in from the daylight. Not wanting to find any unwanted surprises, we needed to peek inside the building with the light first. I watched as Dexter shone the light inside, then stepped inside the door. He waved for others to follow, then mind linked me to give them five minutes and if he wasn’t out with the handful of warriors behind him, to come looking for them. I acknowledged and gave further instructions to my pack warriors and watched as Garrett waved his warriors to move towards the building so they could assist if needed.
We waited impatiently. No one spoke, just exchanged concerned glances. Everyone was on high alert. I had several warriors in wolf form, running the perimeter in case anyone heard the explosion. The two minutes it took for Dexter to come back out, felt like eternity. I know it was two minutes, I timed it. He came out to stand outside the door, a strange look on his face. “Alpha, you’re not going to believe this,” he said as he motioned for us to come forward. Myself and Alpha Garrett slipped inside the building and let our eyes adjust. Once I could see, my jaw dropped. In front of us was a set of stairs, leading/underground into total darkness. I thought I could make out a little light coming from somewhere but wasn’t sure.
us, and Cody and four more followed behind. We left the rest to guard the building and keep a A few more warriors came in and went ahead look out. Making our way down the steps into the dark, our eyes adjusting, Dexter motioned for us to follow him. We made it back into a tunnel about a hundred feet, when it came to a T. “I have warriors down both tunnels Alpha, you’re going to find pretty much the same thing in each one. We didn’t follow to the end yet, because I thought you needed to see what was here in the start of it before we went further. Dexter was giving me a look that said I wasn’t going to like this one bit. I looked over to Garrett, I could see his nose was going crazy at the smells around us. He gave me a look and we headed down the first tunnel. What we found just about a hundred paces in, shocked me.
