Chapter 97
Cody
Dawson walked in, sandwich in hand and a stupid grin on his face. Knowing he had just come from home and that Ashlynn took off early, I could only guess what he was smiling about. I motioned for him to come behind the desk to view the video.
“So you can see, it appears like there are four of them. No one is coming out of the shadows, except this guy,” I point to the that was closest to the camera. “I’ve got a still photo of him and he looks familiar, but I can’t place him. Maybe you can. I pull up the still photo and Dawson drops into a seat next to me, squinting at the screen.
“Is that the only still photo you have?“, he asks.
Clicking on another file, I open the other photo that is from a different angle. Dawson scoots in closer to the screen. The photo is grainy but you can definitely see the guys face.
“Actually, he does look familiar. Maybe we have seen him in town at that bar? He could also be someone from one of the auctions. But yes, definitely from around here, but not our pack.” Dawson was now leaning back, with a thoughtful look on his face. “Has anyone considered that maybe we should go into town and do some recon? You know, pretend we are out for the night to have a good time, but keep our eyes peeled for this guy? Or anyone else we may have seen on camera? Remember the guy with that tattoo on his arm, from the night they broke out our horses?“. He looked over at me and I gave a nod. “Well we never did find out who that guy was. Alpha Chris wouldn’t give up a name. Did you guys look further into it when I was in the hospital?“.
“No, we didn’t. We were waiting to see what was going to happen with you. Of course we know that Alpha Chris didn’t do much to punish Jacob, since we now know he was involved with the abducted wolves.” I was thinking Dawson might have a good idea, but it wasn’t something we could be doing tonight. The Council was due any minute. That didn’t mean we couldn’t try to plan something for tomorrow night. It would be Friday night and as long as no one tipped off that the Council was here, we would find that bar likely crowded. It was worth trying.
“I think we can plan something though. It’s a good idea Dawson,” I stood and clapped him on the shoulder. “Don’t forget that the Alpha wants ús all available once the Council arrives. Go get cleaned up and meet us up at the house for dinner. Alpha’s orders.” I went over and picked up the printed photos off the printer and stuffed them into an envelope. We would be needing those so that everyone knew who they were looking for. “I’m going to go home myself and clean up and make sure Carolyn is ready for what’s to come. See ya later.” Dawson followed me out the door and we went our separate ways. One way or another, we were going to find out who all the responsible parties were and they would be dealt with. But first, we needed to meet with the Council.

We sat around the table at the Alpha’s house, finishing up dinner. The seven members of the werwolf council were speaking quietly with Alpha Gabe and Alpha Garrett, at the end of the main table. I could catch little bits and pieces of the conversation. I knew they were talking about silver and wolfsbane, and I knew they were also talking about me, as they kept glancing my way every few minutes. Definitely not subtle. Ashlynn could sense my unease, squeezing my thigh under the table. “Are you ok?, she whispered quietly.
I nodded my head, whispering back, I’m good, just anxious because I know they will want to question me. I hope I can remember things properly, I was out for such a long time, my timeline may be off. I don’t want that to affect the way they respond to all of this.”
“Dawson, they will understand. You have been through a lot. I know my Uncle will not allow them to twist anything you say. She kissed me on the cheek, then stood to help clear the plates.
