Chapter 29
The one in the back pressed the earpiece against his ear and muttered under his breath. I caught a few words-
“A woman,” “doesn’t seem to be holding a weapon,” “alone.”
After a few seconds of waiting for a response, I scratched the back of my ear, watching them.
Then, they all stepped away from me.
The man in front extended his hand, gesturing toward the door. Well, at least they weren’t going to shoot me–if I was right about what Killian wanted. Or maybe I had finally hurt his pride, especially if someone from my side had followed him.
I took a step toward the door, but the man behind me pressed a gun against my back.
“My apologies, but this is just a precaution,” he said. He actually sounded sorry.
I nodded. “Understandable,” amusement clear in my voice.
“If you have any weapons on you, please surrender them.”
“Oh, so you get to have precautions, but I don’t?”
“We mean you no harm. If this goes as planned, you might get out of here alive.”
If and might. That wasn’t very reassuring. It was all up to them now.
I pulled the gun from my hoodie and handed it to the man on my left.
Everyone froze. And considering how stiff they already were–standing like statues with unreadable expressions–that was saying something. Every pair of eyes locked onto the gun.
“That’s it. I didn’t exactly have time to prepare for this spontaneous visit,” I said.
Suddenly, several clicks echoed through the room. In the blink of an eye, every gun was pointed at me.
I scanned their faces. Now they truly looked the part–professional killers, ready to shoot. It was a terrifying sight. My heart trembled for a second, but I steeled myself.
Then, the door opened.
Dressed entirely in black, the man himself stepped out. Killian Knight.
His dark eyes met mine, and for the first time, I saw something close to absolute disbelief in them.
Frost turned to fire in an instant, and he closed the distance between us in a few strides.
Now just an inch away, he towered over me, his dark aura pressing down on me. This was not the man I had lunch with twelve hours ago.
This was the King of the Shadow Knights.
If someone so much as breathed the wrong way near him, he would tear them apart piece by piece.
When they called him, I thought they were going to take me inside. Then it hit me—t
-the gun.
They recognized it.
Well, no point hiding now.

Chapter 29
I didn’t break eye contact as I pulled down my hood, revealing my braided red hair.
I could see it in his eyes—the memories flashing through his mind. Every time we met. Me sneaking around after college. All the little suspicious things he might have noticed but never mentioned.
He was putting the pieces together.
He raised his hand, a slow, crooked smile forming on his lips. With two fingers, he motioned for his guards to lower their weapons. They hesitated at first but eventually obeyed.
Then, he reached out and slowly removed my mask.
I kept my expression calm, a complete contrast to the way my heart pounded inside my chest.
“Beautiful,” he murmured.
His expression softened, and relief washed over me.
This was the Killian who had taken me to lunch.
He grabbed my hand and, with the other, took the gun I had surrendered from the guard. Without a word, he pulled me inside and shut the door behind
- us.
Silence thickened the air like smoke as he led me down a spiral staircase. The room at the bottom was bathed in white light–more of a living space than a dungeon.
Kevin and Eddie were tied to chairs in the center of the room. Four more guards stood in the corners.

unharmed–except for Eddie, who was out cold. Kevin was pale.
When he finally noticed Killian’s return, his eyes immediately landed on me. His brown eyes widened.
“M–you shouldn’t be–”
“Don’t,” I cut him off. “I’m not in the mood.”
Killian let go of my hand but said nothing.
I turned to him, meeting his gaze squarely.
“Let them go.”
He sat back on the sofa, adjusting his black blazer, still watching me.
“Killian.”
His eyes narrowed. He was enjoying this. He had already recovered from his surprise.
“What do you want?” I asked.
He shrugged. “What could I possibly want? You’ve surprised me, Miss M.” The mocking tone was clear.
Texhaled, resigning myself to my fate. “Whatever it is, we can discuss it.”
“Mila…” Kevin called my name helplessly.
“Let them go,” I said firmly.
Killian looked past me to his guards, gave them a nod, and I watched as two of them stepped forward to untie the ropes.

Chapter 29
Kevin wouldn’t meet my eyes, and Eddie was finally shaken awake..
“Please, please don’t kill me!” Eddie cried out the moment he came to.
Kevin groaned in embarrassment, shaking his head as he pulled Eddie to his feet.
Kevin glanced at me, then at Killian, eyes filled with wariness.
“You should go. They’re waiting for you outside,” I told him.
“But…” He shot a cautious look at Killian.
“Don’t worry. Just go.” I nodded toward the door, urging him to move.
“Escort our guests outside,” Killian ordered. “Then you’re all dismissed.”
The guards moved quickly, leading Kevin and Eddie up the stairs. I kept my gaze on them until the door shut behind them.
Then, I pulled out my phone.
I checked the security feed, flipping through the cameras. I watched as they were escorted safely outside, where Jina, Tong, and Siya were waiting.
Jina’s text popped up. We’re safe. You?
See you later, I replied before putting my phone down.
The rest of the tension drained from my body.
Finally, I turned back.
Killian’s dark stare pinned me in place. He didn’t need to say a word–the questions were written all over his face.
“Why don’t you have a seat, Miss M?”
I gave him a dry smile and sat across from him.
