Chapter 24
“It’s a gift from Miss Emily,” Granny Agatha said.
Seraphinaana looked around. “Where is she?”
“She has something to attend to temporarily. She’s leaving. She said she would come back to play with
Miss.”
Seraphinaana pouted and snorted softly. “She didn’t really want to play with me. She came to find my father.”
Granny Agatha remained silent.
Seraphinaana decided not to open the gift box or let anyone else open it. After finishing her snack, she ran into the yard. Despite having high–end luxury toys in the toy room on the second floor, she preferred playing on the swings.
The swings held a special significance for her because her father had built them.
“Today, I’m swinging by myself. I don’t need you to push me,” Seraphinaana happily declared as she sat on the swing.
The servants stood nearby, always ensuring the safety of the little princess and not daring to be distracted.
After a while, there was a sudden click, and the chain of the swing broke.
At that moment, the swing was at its highest point.
Seraphinaana let out a short, panicked scream, almost flying off the swing and falling onto the lawn.
The screams echoed, turning Kaelan’s house into chaos.
When Kaelan received a call from the butler, his angry voice almost caused the building where he was present at the moment to collapse.
Though Granny Agatha had caught Seraphinaana when she fell, she couldn’t avoid the shock and trauma.
Due to the shock, Seraphinaana lost consciousness and developed a high fever when she was taken to the hospital.
When Kaelan arrived at the hospital and saw the wounds on his daughter’s body, tears filled his eyes for
the first time.
Chapter 24
Meanwhile, Seraphina lay in her hospital bed, her eyelids twitching, and her heart burdened with heaviness.
In the midst of her depression and irritability, the door to the ward suddenly swung open. Initially thinking it was a nurse, Seraphina couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw Emily enter.
Surprised and shocked, Seraphina thought she was hallucinating. She stared, unable to trust her senses.
With a click, the door was locked.
Emily approached the hospital bed with a dark expression, gazing down at Seraphina with eyes full of venom, eager to inflict harm upon her.
“You didn’t die from alcohol poisoning. I must say, the life of a slut like you is really hard,” Emily sneered.
Seraphina, ignoring the pain, sat up in anger. The hatred in her eyes matched that of Emily’s. She pointed towards the door and coldly commanded, “Who let you in? Get out!”
Emily disdainfully snorted, turned around, and sat on the nearby sofa, crossing her legs.
“I’m not leaving. What can you do to me?” she retorted.
Seraphina’s face flushed red with anger, and her heart pounded furiously within her chest.
At times, she genuinely wished to risk everything and bring about Emily’s demise. Even if it meant going to jail, she would have accepted it.
“Emily Williams, you are the most despicable and shameless person I have ever encountered. Not only do you lack remorse for your misdeeds, but you also have the audacity to flaunt them. Rest assured, you will face consequences,” Seraphina declared,
Emily’s lips curled into a disdainful smile. “You said the same four years ago. What happened? I am happy and content. Look at you now, becoming increasingly pitiful. Even when you were on the verge of death from alcohol poisoning, no one cared about you.”
She paused, lighting a cigarette and blowing a smoke ring provocatively in Seraphina’s direction. “Do you think that by complaining to Kaelan, he will take your side? Stop dreaming. Kaelan doesn’t care about you. Even if you were to die, he wouldn’t bat an eye. Otherwise, how do you think I managed to enter?”
Seraphina had already anticipated Kaelan’s stance on the matter. Her heart had grown numb, and she no longer held any expectations for him.
Thus, Emily’s words failed to provoke or anger her. Instead, they only served to further chill her heart.
At least now, she no longer wished to endure it silently.
Chapter 24
“Emily, this isn’t the first time you and Kaelan have faced trouble together. When walking by the river, one must be prepared to get their shoes wet. Don’t be too smug. Even a rabbit will bite when cornered!” Seraphina exclaimed.
“You dare to curse me and Kaelan?”
“Seraphina, you’re courting death.”
In the next moment, when Seraphina met Emily’s cold and determined gaze, a tremor ran through Emily’s heart. Her legs weakened, and it felt as if lead filled the soles of her feet.
Was this truly Seraphina? How could a sick person possess such sharp eyes? She was frightened.
Seraphina retracted her sudden sternness, and her eyes returned to a calm state. Simultaneously, she remembered something of great importance.
“I don’t care about alcohol poisoning. In exchange, you must tell me which kindergarten Seraphinaana attends and what the school’s schedule is.”
Emily, frustrated by her previous defeat, sought to make a comeback.
She replied shamelessly, “What if I don’t tell you?”
Seraphina stared at her unwaveringly, “Then you’ll be waiting to be prosecuted, intentional murder is no less serious than hit–and–run, and if the two crimes are combined, I’m afraid the sentence will not be less
than ten years in prison.”
“What, you will go to court to sue me?” Emily scoffed with contempt. “Just you? Stop dreaming.”
However, Seraphina couldn’t help but laugh. “What about another lawyer?”
Tension hung in the air.
Emily’s expression grew dark.
“Do you think you can win the case with a lawyer? I have the support of the Williams family and the Winters family. If you try to fight me, you will only suffer a miserable defeat.”
“Yes, you have people backing you. I may not be able to win, but I can still tarnish your reputation.”
“I’m not afraid.”
A smirk crept onto Seraphinaana’s lips as a hint of cunning spread through her. She warned coldly, “I dare indeed. What about the Williams family? And the Winters family? Don’t they care?”
Emily’s heart jolted as if struck.
Chapter 24
“You dare to threaten me!”
Seraphina no longer displayed any weakness, and a trace of hostility gleamed in her eyes.
“Why wouldn’t I dare? A person who has been to prison has nothing left to fear. The worst–case scenario is that the fish die and the net breaks. I have nothing to lose. What about you? Do you dare to try? Dare to fall from the clouds into hell?”
After hearing this, Emily couldn’t help but break out in a cold sweat. She pointed at Seraphina and cursed, “You’re crazy.”
“Yes, I’m crazy. You and Kaelan have driven me to madness.”
“Emily, let me warn you. Don’t mess with me in the future. If you push me too far, I will drag you to hell!”
Emily’s legs gave way, and she sank onto the sofa. For the first time, she revealed her fear in Seraphina’s presence.
Seraphina stared at her, and her eyes brimmed with determination. “I’ll ask you again: which kindergarten does Seraphinaana attend?”
A minute later, Emily left behind a note and fled.
Seraphina looked at the words
On the note, and the hostility within her instantly dissipated. Now that she finally had a chance to see Seraphinaana, she needed to leave the hospital quickly.
