“Ms. Prescoll, good morning,” greeted the servant, Camila, as she hurried over,
“Good morning, Camila,” Claire replied with a smile.
She sat on the sofa, feigning boredom while scrolling through her phone before starting a conversation with Camila.

“Have you been cleaning the villa for many years?” Claire asked.
“Yes, for many years. I still remember my first visit to the villa…” Camila, who loved to chat, spoke freely.
Claire complimented her, causing Camila to bask in the praise.
Seizing the moment, Claire led the conversation to Arthur. “I didn’t expect you to enjoy it here. I thought being around Arthur would be uncomfortable and no one could stay here for long. Honestly, I find him intimidating. I get nervous every time I see his stern face.”
As expected, Camila responded, “Actually, Mr. Hawthorne is quite nice. He just looks cold, but in his heart, he is…”
Just as they were about to talk about the key thing that Claire wanted to know the most, Arthur’s voice interrupted, “What are you two saying about me?”

Claire was startled, realizing he had appeared behind her without her noticing.
Claire felt a sense of panic set in.
She wondered, “It’s over. When did Arthur arrive? Could he have guessed my plan?”
She swiftly recounted her conversation with Camila since coming downstairs, hoping she hadn’t aroused his suspicions.
She was lost in thought when Arthur smiled and sat beside her.
He asked, “What’s wrong? Did my sudden appearance scare you?”
Claire snapped back to reality, relieved by his concerned expression.
She hadn’t said anything suspicious after all.
She replied, “Yes, Camila and I were chatting when you surprised me from behind. You freak me out.”
She clutched her chest and pretended to be frightened.
Little did she know that Arthur had already seen through all her disguises and cover–ups.
“It’s my fault for being quiet. Next time, I’ll make sure to stomp so you can hear me,” Arthur replied, not exposing Claire.

“Ms. Prescott, Mr. Hawthorne treats you really well. It’s enviable. I’ve never seen him like this with anyone, especially a woman,” Camila chimed in.
“Is that so?” Claire replied with a wry smile, unsure how to respond.
Just then, an underling announced, “Mr. Arthur Hawthorne, Ms. Prescott, breakfast is ready.”
Relieved, Claire quickly got up and headed to the table.
Arthur didn’t say anything else. He got up with Claire and walked to the table to have breakfast together.
After the morning’s events, Claire no longer acted impulsively. After breakfast, she returned to her room, claiming she hadn’t rested enough the previous night and wanted to nap.
“Okay, have a good rest. What do you want for lunch? I’ll cook for you since I’m off on weekends,” Arthur offered with a playful smile.
“I’m not picky about food. Just make what you’re good at,” Claire said, surprised that he wanted to cook for her.
