Chapter 20
Lia said. “Coby is great.”
Quinn smiled knowingly. “As long as he’s not like his dad…
“Ahem, honey, we need to talk business now. Bruce was worried that if Quinn continued, he’d end up feeling worthless..
“What? I haven’t finished talking to my daughter–in–law yet, Quinn said, clearly unhappy about being interrupted by Bruce. Yet, she was dragged away by him.
“Coby. I’m leaving, too. With the parents out of the room, Molly wisely decided not to be a third wheel.
Lia could tell that Coby’s parents got along well with each other
Coby squeezed her hand to get her attention. “Don’t overthink it My parents really like you, but my dad just needs to handle some things with my mom first.”
“Hmm. that’s good.” She rarely went back to her foster parents‘ house, since she felt out of place there, except for occasional visits to see Layla.
She had thought that families like the Fords, being wealthy, would be full of scheming, but instead, she felt warmth.
Bruce and Quinn appeared again during dinner, with Quinn looking shy, a red mark on her pale neck.
“So, after all these years, you’re still acting like this?” Although Quinn complained, she was secretly happy.
Bruce only showed his affectionate side when they were alone.
Coby and Molly were used to it–their parents‘ deep affection for each other was so evident that their births could almost be considered an accident.
“It’s your fault. I haven’t given Lia her gift yet.” Quinn complained again. Bruce listened quietly.
He was a man decisive in business yet completely ruled by his wife at home, almost as if he wanted to protect her all the time.
“Mom, get to the point. Coby knew Quinn wasn’t just rambling.
“Why are you in such a hurry?” Quinn shot a glance at Coby, then turned to Lia with a bright smile.
She said, “Lia, we don’t have much to give you, but these small gifs come from our hearts. My son doesn’t know how to be romantic or show care. If you ever feel like he’s not treating you right, just tell me, and I’ll handle it.”
Quinn’s words made Lia feel flattered. “No, Coby… she glanced at Coby beside her, a bit shy, “he’s very thoughtful
Quinn, being experienced herself, immediately understood, especially since Bruce was the type to seem cold on the outside but warm on the inside.
Coby kept a gentle smile on his face the whole time, and Lia had a very high opinion of him.
Anyway, as long as you two are happy, that’s all that matters, Quinn said with a glance.
The butler quickly had the servants bring over a few inique boxes. “Hope you’ll like them.”
Lia said, “Thanks, but it’s not necessary.
Quinn said, “Lia, we’re family. You didn’t have a wedding, and that’s something that still bothers me. I don’t know what that

brat is thinking.
“It’s my fault, I… Lia wasn’t sure how to explain.
“It’s my parents‘ heartfelt gesture. Be good and accept it, Coby said gently.
Since he said it like that, Lia didn’t want to refuse, and thought she’d quietly return the gifts to him later.
“Thank you,” she said.
“It’s nothing, right, dear? Quinn nudged Bruce’s hand. “Lia, dont mind Bruce. He doesn’t like to talk much.”
“Honey, you’ve said it all. Bruce didn’t even get a chance to speak
“Well, it’s because you don’t talk, Quinn said, annoyed.
Bruce said. “Okay, whatever you say is right.”
Lia didn’t expect Bruce to be so devoted to Quinn–it was beyond her imagination.
That night. Lia and Coby stayed overnight at Ford Manor.
His room, like the one at Skyview Villas, had dark–toned furnishings.
Lia sat quietly on the couch, reflecting on Quinn’s words.
Quinn said. “Lia, as long as you and Coby are happy, that’s enough. In our Ford family, we don’t need a perfect match in status for marriage. Don’t feel burdened. If anything’s on your mind, tell me.”
The Ford family was so different from what Lia had imagined. They were down–to–earth, not at all arrogant because of their power. The family was harmonious and full of deep affection.
Lia had imagined meeting his parents many times, but she never expected it to be so warm and harmonious.
Here, it seemed there was no distinction between maids and family. They didn’t mind that she had once been a maid of the Allen family, and Quinn even comforted her.
Coby came out of the walk–in closet and saw her lost in thought He wrapped his arm around her waist. “What’s wrong? Are you worried about your grandma?”
Lia shook her head. He had arranged for people to take care of her, and there was a medical team, so she wasn’t worried
It was just that so much had happened today. She couldn’t believe they were really married, and his family had been so kind to her.
“No, I was just thinking, your parents are really nice,” Lia said sincerely.
Even though Quinn did most of the talking, Bruce always listened carefully. They didn’t talk much, but Lia could feel that the Ford family had accepted her.
Coby gently lifted her chin. “So you’re wondering why my parents don’t reject you?”
Yeah, Lia admitted.
It’s simple. They’ve been through it themselves.”
He pulled her into his arms, and Lia sat sideways on his lap.
After spending so much time together, she realized he loved talking like this, resting his head on her shoulder and

whispering in her ear
It felt light and ticklish. At first, Lia wasn’t used to it, but slowly, she stopped pulling away.
Coby gently played with her hand, occasionally kissing it and making her blush.
Coby said, “My dad used to be my mom’s bodyguard.”
Lia was surprised. The Ford family was one of the wealthiest in Brighton, and their history was easy to trace, yet she had never known that Bruce had such a past.
Π
“This part of our history is not something we let outsiders know My dad was once homeless. It wasn’t until many years later that my grandparents found him. Their meeting was like something out of a drama,
“When my dad was very young, my mom found him half–dead and brought him home. Later, my dad became my mom’s. bodyguard. Back then, neither their status nor position matched
“The only reason they could be together was because my mom was persistent. So, why my parents don’t reject you, that’s the reason. They’ve been through difficult times themselves and don’t want their son to repeat the same mistakes.”
“Thank you for trusting me.” Lia’s doubts were cleared, and she was grateful to have such wonderful people in her life.
Coby continued. “Molly and I used to not understand why Dad always revolves around Mom. Our birth was like an accident because she was the one he worked so hard to win over, the only woman he ever loved.”
Years later, Coby finally understood that feeling. “My parents‘ love is something many people envy
After all the twists and turns, they still ended up together, blossoming and growing, staying by each other’s side for life.
“But Lia, you don’t need to envy.” He gently stroked her soft check, his hot breath brushing against her face. Lia’s ears turned) pink as she got lost in his tender gaze.
Knock, knock… The sound of the knock quickly brought Lia back to reality. She hurriedly got up from Coby’s arms.
“I’ll go answer the door. After saying that, she quickly ran towards the door.
Coby lightly chuckled, flicking his fingers.
Lia opened the door and saw Molly standing there, smiling, holding a bag.
“Molly, what’s going on?” she asked.
Molly glanced inside the room and smiled. “Lia, I brought some pajamas. There’s nothing feminine in my brother’s room, so you don’t worry.”
Lia’s face flushed with embarrassment. She took the pajamas. “Thank you, Molly. Come in and sit for a while.”
“No need, Lia.” Molly suddenly leaned closer to Lia’s ear and whispered, “I’ll tell you a secret.”
“What is it?” asked Lia
Molly said, “You’re the only woman my brother has ever brought back.”
Not even a single female mosquito could usually be found around him.
Some of her school friends liked Coby, and she even helped deliver love letters to him. In the end, he played a trick on her something Molly still remembered to this day.
Molly
said, “Lia, my brother has never held a woman’s hand, except for The and

‘He’s never held another wogan’s hand?‘ Lia couldn’t help but surprised because his usual behavior seemed like that of an experienced matt, and his skills were incredible.
Lia felt a flush on her face..
Both of them were lost in their own thoughts, not even noticing Coby approaching
“Molly, what were you talking about?”
He naturally wrapped his arm around Lia’s waist. Lia lowered her head when she saw him, feeling guilty, as if caught in the

“Haha, nothing. I just brought the pajamas to Lia. Goodnight to you both, sweet dreams, and may you have children soon!” teased Molly.
Molly, with a knowing look, threw her brother a glance and quickly ran off.
Coby leaned down and softly asked, “Lia, what did Molly say?”
Lia avoided his gaze slightly. “It’s nothing important.”
Perhaps Molly didn’t know, but how could he not have had a girlfriend before? However, these things were none of her business.
Seeing her face turn red. Coby didn’t press fumber. He knew Molly very well and was sure she had said something
His indifferent gaze casually passed over the bag. “Lia, let’s take a shower”
“Okay” Lia responded absentmindedly, then realized. “What?”
“I said, let’s take a shower. He gently squeezed her soft hand.
Lia cleared her throat. “Okay, you go first.”
Coby directly said. “Tll shower with you.”
“Oh Lia and he had showered together before. Back then, Lia was only focused on making money, doing what she could. But now things seemed different.
They were married now, and it was perfectly normal.
The bathroom had a large bathtub, and steam filled the air. Lia had her back to him, her heart racing in her chest.
Her hand rested on the soft, plush edge of the bathtub, and the faint water droplets on her face were hard to tell the bathwater.

“What?” His voice was hoarse.
His hand was moving so widely on her body.
After a few seconds of silence, Lia gathered her courage and said. “I can do it myself.
Coby smiled lightly. “It’s fine.”
But Lia had her own thoughts. She felt embarrassed but didn’t say it out loud.
Maybe she was just too tired, as sleepiness hit her uncontrollably

Before long, Coby realized she had fallen asleep.
Her cheeks were pink, and her breathing was shallow.
She looked like a curled–up kitten, so cute. Coby didn’t like cats, but he made an exception for her.
He gently lifted her, not wanting to disturb her dream.
He wiped away the little droplets of water from her delicate skin.
His movements were very light and gentle. He was a gentleman, but when it came to her, he felt like a beast.
Coby placed her on the bed. He loved watching her sleep; she looked like a painting.
Lia unconsciously snuggled her little head in his arms, finding a comfortable spot. He tenderly kissed the shallow scar on her shoulder.
On their first night as husband and wife, she slept soundly. He couldn’t sleep at all, even taking several cold showers to cool. himself down
This was the most peaceful night’s sleep Lia had in all these days.
She even had a dream, where she and Coby got married.
Most people didn’t believe it, and even she didn’t.
Coby, whether during school days or now, was the center of attention wherever he went. As for her, wherever she went others always saw her as Issac’s shadow.
How could they possibly get married!
But it seemed like they really did.
Lia suddenly opened her eyes and saw Coby so close to her.
Coby was still asleep. When did I fall asleep last night?‘ she thought.
She remembered him helping her take a shower, and then she seemed too tired to remember anything else.
This was the first time Lia observed him up close. His long, curled eyelashes covered his deep–set eyes, and under his high nose were his crimson lips.
He slept peacefully, only holding her tightly.
She realized she had been watching him for a long time. The sky was already bright, and she awkwardly shifted her body.
He shifted in her arms, and he stretched out his long arm
He said, “It’s still early, so let’s sleep a bit more.”
Lia returned to his embrace, her little hand instinctively placed between them.
“Coby, I’m going to say good morning to your parents. She had overslept on her first visit, which was not good.
He smiled at the corner of his lips. “Don’t worry, they’d prefer us to sleep in as long as possible,”
“Uh. Lia awkwardly lowered her gaze, only then realizing that her pajamas were too light and even see–through,

It was the pajama Molly gave her. The style seemed a bit too daring.
“Um…” Coby noticed her subtly tugging at her clothes and slowly explained.
“Last night, when you fell asleep in the shower, I helped you get dressed. I noticed you once slept without wearing any underwear, so I didn’t put any on you.”
While enjoying the view, he wasn’t exactly comfortable either.
She said, “Alright.”
After he noticed, Lia felt awkward about pulling at her clothes anymore. Given their situation, it felt a bit pretentious to be
shiv.
He tightened his arms around her. Lia stiffened, as if she sensed something.
Coby said, “From now on, I’ll be more careful with sex, so you won’t get hurt.
Has he seen it? Lia thought.
Coby whispered in her ear. “Sorry, Lia, I didn’t have much experience before.”
Boom! She felt like she was on fire.
He admitted he had no experience. What Molly said was true–he had never dated anyone before
It’s okay, I don’t have experience either. Lia blurted it out instinctively.
Coby grinned smugly. “I know. Next time, I’ll be gentler
They came downstairs much later than expected, and everyone was waiting for them. Lia immediately felt like she had wasted everyone’s time.
Coby gently squeezed her hand. “Don’t worry about it.”
“Coby, why are you bringing Lia down so early? Why didn’t you sleep a bit longer?” Quinn said loudly, not caring that others were around.
Lia felt too awkward to say anything
“Ahem… Bruce, being considerate, served Quinn some food. “Quinn, eat.”
But Quinn wasn’t listening, “Back in the day, your dad and I didn’t leave the bed for three days and nights.”
As soon as those words were spoken, everyone chuckled softly
“Mom, is that true? Molly, always full of mischief, asked on purpose.
“You’re still young. I was talking to your brother.” It was a bit of an exaggeration.
I’m not that youngMolly pouted.
“Honey, tuck in, Bruce called out again, but this time not as gently.
Quinn said, “Look at you. Let’s eat. Lia, come sit down. After Bruce and Coby leave for work, we’ll talk more.”
“Okay.” Lia glanced at Coby beside her and obediently walked over.

Molly giggled as she walked up to Coby and whispered, “Coby, do you think my pajamas look good?”
“You…” He poked her forehead and cleared his throat. “Get more ready and send them to my place.”
Molly thought, Tk 1sk, my brother isn’t some monk, he’s just the type to be shy and reserved”
