Chapter 66
At Skyview Villa, Coby wrapped his arms around Lia, who was tidying up her clothes from behind. “I should have gone to pick you up.”
“It’s okay, I had bodyguards with me.” She couldn’t expect him to accompany her everywhere, especially since he was so busy.
Lia turned around and slowly started to undo his tie. “Today, I met a lady who was also going to Angel Orphanage.”
He took the tie from her hands. “And then?”
Lia continued to take off his jacket. “I accidentally bumped into her.”
The man slightly furrowed his brows and checked her body. “Are you okay?”
Lia wriggled in his arms. “I’m fine. But her hand was scratched. I left my phone number and told her to call if there’s any problem.”
Coby relaxed his furrowed brow. “As long as you’re fine, I don’t care about other people.”
“By the way, I plan to visit Cora this weekend.” She told him in advance so he wouldn’t forget later.
Coby pulled Lia into his arms. “Again?”
Lia smiled faintly and said, “It seems like you have an issue with Cora?”
Coby didn’t deny it. “You’ve spent too much time with her,” which also meant they had spent less time together.
“Not really, I only meet Cora occasionally, but you and I are together every day, both at work and at home. Don’t you think that’s a lot, Coby?” she asked.
As the saying goes, familiarity breeds contempt–could that be happening?
Coby lightly pinched the soft flesh at her waist. “A lot? I think it’s not enough. I want to put you in my bag so I can see you anytime.” He smiled teasingly, adding, “And touch you whenever I want, protect you all the time.”
Lia blushed and poked his chest. “Stop!”
He held her small hand and kissed it. “Okay, I won’t talk, I’ll just act.”
Privately, his words were becoming bolder. Lia didn’t know if this was the norm for other couples, but she couldn’t help wondering if they were too active sexually. ‘Is this healthy?‘
At Joy Residential Complex. Frances had been suffering from severe morning sickness since finding out she was pregnant. With frequent vomiting and the inability to eat takeout every meal, she had no choice but to move back home.
She had to protect the child inside her. This would later be her leverage against the Allen family.
Olive had been worried about her daughter, who hadn’t left the house and was lying in bed all day. Olive had been eager her daughter’s return, but she was hesitant to scold her in case Frances left again.
But the gossip from the neighbors was cruel, putting Olive in a difficult position.

Olive entered Frances’s room and asked with concern, “Frances, are you sick? You look pale. Do you want me to take you to the hospital for a checkup? You can’t just lie here like this. Don’t worry about work for now, take care of your body.”
Frances, who had no intention of leaving, was happy that her mother gave her an easy way out. She agreed immediately.

“I’m not sick, just weak. The doctor said it’s due to poor circulation, Mom, could you make some nutritious food for me to help my body recover?” said Frances.
Olive, relieved upon hearing this, quickly agreed, saying, “Okay, I’ll go buy ingredients. Take care of yourself, don’t worry about making money. Some things are just not meant to be.”
After Frances left home, Olive consulted a fortune teller. The fortune teller predicted she had little luck and would face a calamity soon, which made Olive furious. She cursed at the fortune teller, calling him a liar.
Although Olive didn’t fully believe in the fortune teller’s words, she was still worried, especially after hearing about the impending calamity. Who wouldn’t be scared of such predictions? So, she warned her daughter.
“Mom, please leave, stop nagging me.” Frances didn’t want to hear any talk about destiny. Things wouldn’t happen unless she fought for them, and now that she was carrying a child from the Allen family, she couldn’t afford to give up.
Seeing her daughter’s impatience, Olive didn’t say anything more and quickly left the room.
Frances lay in bed, feeling uneasy. She touched her flat stomach, angry with herself.
She hadn’t expected Mrs. Allen to be so heartless, even abandoning her and the child of the Allen family. She had been thrown aside so ruthlessly.
The last visit to the Allen family had nearly caused her to miscarry. Thankfully, she managed to keep the baby.
But the doctor had warned that if the baby were lost this time, her chances of conceiving again would be very slim. After considering everything, Frances decided to keep the child.
She would wait until the pregnancy was further along to tell her parents. By then, although they would be angry, they would consider her health and would likely agree to let her keep the baby.
Frances knew she didn’t have the ability to raise the child herself, but she wouldn’t just give up. If the Allen family didn’t want it, she would expose everything. She was ready for things to break down if necessary.
Ring, ring…
The phone rang, and Frances glanced at it. She was so shocked that she dropped the phone.
The short, chubby man was calling again. After their last meeting, he had convinced himself that he was her boyfriend and kept pushing for more.
Frances felt disgusted, but luckily, the man believed her and let her go. Otherwise, she didn’t know what kind of torment she would have endured.
To avoid being found, Frances had changed her address and hid herself, not daring to go out. But she never expected that he wouldn’t leave her alone.
The thought of what had happened between her and that man made her nauseous.
Frances covered her head with the blanket. She couldn’t let anything happen with that short, chubby man. She wanted to become a wealthy woman.
‘Issac, you will regret not marrying me,‘ she thought to herself.
At Allen family’s study, Issac was furious. “Nate, what do I need you for? You couldn’t even get a meeting with K&H’s president.”
Nate took the scolding in silence. After being suspended, his boss’s mood had become even more erratic.
“Mr. Allen, not only did K&H’s President reject us, but they also rejected Ford Group.” This was the strange part.
Chapter 66
Issac frowned. “What do you mean?”
“It seems K&H has been stalling. Since Mr. Howard returned to the country, he hasn’t made a public appearance,” said Nate.
Normally, no matter how mysterious someone was, being the president of K&H meant they would be in the spotlight, especially after Edward took the position.
Issac rested his chin in his hand. “What game is the Howard family playing?”
“Mr. Allen, we don’t have any leads yet, but the former president of Howard Group and his wife have recently returned. We might be able to use that to our advantage,” said Nate.
“You handle it.” Issac nodded.
“Yes, Mr. Allen,” said Nate.
After Nate left, Issac made another phone call. “Is this what you call success?”
“Mr. Allen, it’s not that we don’t want to act, but the other side has too many bodyguards. Besides, we’ve already aroused their suspicion, so we dare not make any big moves.”
“You didn’t accomplish anything and even let the other party get suspicious? I seriously doubt your abilities!” Issac berated the man on the other end of the call harshly.
“Mr. Allen, this task is very risky, as you know. If they find out, we’ll be in deep trouble. The other side has influence both legally and illegally.”
“Stop all actions for now. When the time is right, I’ll give further instructions.” Issac wanted to ensure everything would go perfectly.
“Mr. Allen, you are truly wise and strategic.” The person on the other end flattered him.

At a welcome party hosted by Quinn, Lia and Molly were present. Master Ford and Coby were busy with work and not at home.
Lia wore a pale blue modified gown that highlighted her elegant demeanor, while Molly was dressed in a playful, princess- style dress. However, Molly didn’t look happy, her brows furrowed in frustration.
“Mom, I really have something to do.” Molly had been forced to attend. She had tried to avoid coming home the night before but was dragged back by her mother’s relentless calls in the morning.
She was worried about running into Remy, as she felt guilty for something she had done.
“Do you leave.”
think I’m setting you up on a blind date?” Quinn teased. “Just wait a bit. Say hello to my friends, and then you can
“Fine.” Molly had no choice but to comply.
“The men in the Ford family don’t like these events. They’re all busy working.” Quinn complained.
Lia understood. This welcome party was for Quinn’s friends and mostly a gathering of her close companions.
“Mom, it would be awkward for Dad and Coby to be here. It’s all your friends,” Molly muttered.
“That’s why I didn’t stop them from working, but you always take their side,” Quinn said, poking her daughter’s forehead.
“I don’t!” Molly protested, hiding behind Lia.
Chapter 66
“Mom, I think I heard acar. Are they here?” Lia quickly changed the subject.
“Let’s go and check,” said Quinn.
Molly cleverly made an excuse. “Mom, Lia, you go ahead. I have stomachache and need to use the restroom.”

“That girl,” Quinn muttered, watching her daughter’s retreating figure. “She’s probably worried about that Remy. Does she think I don’t know? She can’t hide anything from me.” Turning to Lia, she said, “Don’t cover for her. She needs to face the consequences of her actions.”
After all, you can’t just take advantage of someone and then run away. Back in the day, Quinn would have handled such situations directly. Who knew her daughter would be so shy despite her usually bold personality?
Lia had thought Quinn didn’t know, but clearly, she was fully aware.
Ten minutes later, they welcomed their guests. Quinn warmly introduced them. “Lia, this is Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Yeats, two of my oldest friends. Bri, Sierra, this is my daughter–in–law, Lia
Lia froze for a moment when she saw the middle–aged woman in white but quickly recovered and greeted them with a polite nod. “Hello, Mrs. Walker, Mrs. Yeats.”
Sierra was surprised to see the young woman she had met before, now realizing she was Quinn’s daughter–in–law.
“How lovely, Quinn. I envy you,” Bri said, holding her friend’s hand.
Their sons weren’t much different in age. Seeing her friend’s son already married made Bri anxious about her own child.
“I didn’t expect that boy to already have someone he liked. Lia is so well–behaved and considerate; she’s a blessing to Coby, Quinn said, her smile beaming as she praised Lia.
“You’re very fortunate, Quinn. Lia has a kind heart.” Sierra added.
“Oh, do you know each other?” Quinn asked, surprised.
“Mom, I’ve met Mrs. Yeats before. I accidentally bumped into her once.” Lia explained, turning to Sierra with concern. “Mrs. Yeats, how’s your hand?”
“Oh? Sierra, you got hurt?” Quinn asked in surprise.
“It was nothing, just a small scrape. Quinn, your daughter–in–law even left her phone number for me that day. What a delightful coincidence to meet her here.” Sierra’s impression of Lia was excellent.
“It truly is a small world.” Quinn agreed.
“Quinn, where’s Molly?” Bri asked, eager to see the girl.
As a potential match for her son, Bri couldn’t be happier with Quinn’s daughter.
“She said she wasn’t feeling well and went to the restroom,” said Quinn.
“I’ll go check on Molly.” Lia offered, sensing they had more to discuss privately.
“Sure, go ahead.” Quinn linked arms with her two friends. “Bri, don’t worry. These things take time. Let’s wait and see.”
“Of course. If our families do become in–laws, I’ll treat Molly as my own daughter,” Bri said earnestly.
If she had known earlier that her son liked Molly, she wouldn’t have arranged any blind dates and instead encouraged him to spend more time with her.

“I trust you,” Quinn said with a smile. She was pleased with the idea but knew it ultimately depended on her daughter. “Sierra, is your son getting married soon?”

“Him?” Sierra shook her head. “He doesn’t even have a girlfriend yet. The incident from his childhood left a lasting impact
on him.”
“It’s not his fault. Kids can’t understand such things at that age. Quinn sighed sympathetically.
A once–happy family was now consumed with guilt over that incident.
“If my daughter were still here, she’d be getting ready to start her own family by now.” Sierra had never truly believed her daughter was gone, and it had been a heavy weight on her heart for years.
Bri couldn’t help but feel sorrowful as well. “Back then, Sierra and Quinn joked about becoming in–laws. Fate really has a cruel sense of humor.”
Meanwhile, Molly excused herself to the bathroom but was just zoning out inside. She knew it was impossible to avoid the event, but if he showed up, could she really act as though nothing had happened?
That night, she had gotten drunk and accidentally slept with him. When she woke up, she ran off without a word, not knowing how he felt about it.
She had rejected him outright before, yet still ended up doing this. Would Dr. Walker think she was toying with him? The more Molly thought about it, the more frustrated she became. Getting drunk had caused a big mess this time.
Then again, maybe he wouldn’t show up. Was she overreacting? Molly tried to comfort herself, realizing that avoiding him wasn’t a solution. Sooner or later, she had to face him.
After hesitating for a while, she finally decided to step out. But the moment she left the bathroom, she saw him. Instinctively, she turned back.
“Molly, how much longer are you planning to avoid me?” he asked.
Remy had expected her to show up and purposely followed her here. He hadn’t anticipated waiting for her outside a bathroom–just like the first time, yet somehow completely different.
Molly froze, feeling at a loss.
Déciding she couldn’t avoid him any longer, Molly took a deep breath and mustered her courage. “Dr. Walker, about that night… I was drunk, so…”
“I wasn’t drunk. I remember everything.” He was perfectly sober.
‘Did he really have to be that blunt?‘ Molly’s courage evaporated instantly.
Seeing her discomfort, Remy sighed. “Molly, you don’t have to avoid me. If you’re not interested, I won’t force you.”
“Oh.” Molly was surprised.
But pretending nothing had happened and going back to how things were seemed impossible for her now.
“Next time, don’t get drunk.” If it had been another man, the consequences could have been unimaginable. Of course, he wasn’t exactly a saint either.
“Okay.” Molly thought gloomily that she wouldn’t dare get drunk again.
“If you’re going to drink, call me,” he said.
