After Megan’s friends left. Sean dragged Alyssa out of her room and barked, “Alyssa, you’ve crossed the line today. Apologize to Hailey.”
Alyssa blinked and asked. “What did I do?”
It’s not like I’m the one who hurt Hailey. It’s those friends of Megan’s. Why don’t you snap at them?‘ Alyssa thought.
“Hailey took all the humiliation for you. Shouldn’t you apologize to her?” Sean said with a cold voice.
Megan nodded. “Hailey cooked today. That should have been your job.”
Alyssa pursed her lips and looked up at Sean, her frustration clear. “Took all the humiliation for me? Why should I take any humiliation from them anyway? Am I somehow less than others? Or is this just how you see me in your heart? Come on, Sean. I’m your girlfriend.”
Sean opened his mouth, but his tongue failed him. The atmosphere became tense after a moment of silence.
Hailey tried to appear reasonable in front of Sean and Brenda, saying, “It’s all good. Alyssa and I are tight. Doing this for her is no big deal
“Hailey, you’re too soft. You treat her like a friend, but she clearly doesn’t feel the same, Megan snarled.
Brenda chimed in, “Hailey is Sean’s secretary. She shouldn’t have been doing this in the first place. Her hands are for working, not cooking.”
Alyssa ignored Brenda and just stared at Sean. Once upon a time, these hands of mine were also for working. You made me what I am now. And now you think I was meant to be this way?”
Sean couldn’t retort. He knew Alyssa was right. He just refused to admit it. Subconsciously, he didn’t want Alyssa to return to work because when they had started their business together, Alyssa had been much more capable than him.
They got most of their projects because of Alyssa and not him. Sean was jealous of Alyssa and afraid she would outshine him, so he deliberately held her back and even tried to make her miserable to validate himself.
While he wanted to keep her down, he also felt repulsed by how she was now,
He didn’t know how to answer Alyssa’s question and coldly said, “You don’t think you’re to blame, do you? Fine, then take your time to think about it. From today, I won’t be coming back Come to me when you figure it out.”
With that, he grabbed his car keys and left.
Megan chuckled mockingly, “You’ve pissed him off. What are you gonna do now? And then she went back to her room. Brenda added, “Oh, it’s late. I need to go to bed. Don’t forget to clean up.”
Once everyone had left, Hailey and Alyssa were the only ones left in the living room. Like a good friend, Hailey took Alyssa’s hand and said, “Alyssa, you really upset Mr. Rivera today.”
Alyssa looked up at Hailey and saw her smiling softly.
“But don’t worry, Alyssa. I’ll help you.” After thinking for a while, Hailey suggested, “Alyssa, why don’t you wait until Sean’s birthday and give him a nice gift to apologize?”
