Alyssa huffed, “Just likes to keep people guessing.”
“Exactly, Ms. Carlson is all about keeping people on their toes,” Tamera echoed.
But while Alyssa was talking about Andrew, Tamera was referring to Cathy.
After all, in Tamera’s eyes, Alyssa was just a junior secretary who’d never even met Andrew. She didn’t believe Alyssa would know if Andrew liked to mess with people.
They gossiped for a while before heading out of the office and grabbing cabs home.
When Alyssa got to her front door, she realized she hadn’t registered her fingerprint yet, so she rang the doorbell.
Meanwhile, Andrew was on a video call, getting an earful from Leanna for the last half hour. He’d been trying to laugh it off and keep her in a good mood.
Leanna wasn’t having it. “You didn’t let me see Alyssa last night, so don’t think you can sweet–talk your way out of this. I’m not ending this call until I see her.”
“Grandma, it’s late. I still need to shower and sleep. Or do you want to watch me take a bath?” Andrew joked with a grin.
“Who wants to see that? I just want to see my granddaughter–in–law,” Leanna shot back, eyeing him with suspicion.
Celine chimed in, “I heard from Myrna that you two left for work together this morning. So why didn’t you bring Alyssa home after work? Are you that clueless? She’s your wife. It’s late, and she’s not home yet–aren’t you worried?”
Andrew rubbed his forehead. “Mom, you’ve said this a million times. She’s a grown woman. What’s there to worry about?”
“You might not be worried, but I am. Alyssa is so pretty. What if someone else sweeps her off her feet?” Celine muttered.
Just as Andrew was about to be driven up the wall by these two women, the doorbell rang. He quickly said into the call, “Someone’s at the door. I’m hanging up to get it.”
“Hold on! Don’t you dare hang up,” Leanna snapped. “I need to make sure it’s not some other woman coming to see you this late.”
Andrew’s mouth twitched. “Grandma, what nonsense are you talking about?”
“Go open the door,” she urged. “Or are you too scared? Is there really someone else at the door?”

Ignoring their chatter, Andrew put his phone on the table and went to open the door.
When he saw it was Alyssa, he was a bit surprised but quickly frowned. “Why didn’t you just open the door yourself?”
Alyssa pursed her lips. “I haven’t registered my fingerprint yet.”
