Alyssa glared at Andrew, biting back her frustration. She thought, ‘You have made me late, cost me the bonus, and now have the nerve to ask me to chip in for gas? This stingy guy–whatever, it isn’t worth the argument.
She gritted her teeth and said, “How much? I’ll transfer it to you.”
“I don’t remember exactly. How about this–keep carpooling with me, and once this tank runs out, we’ll split the gas,” Andrew suggested.
Alyssa considered it for a moment. “Fine, but you better not make me late on purpose.”
won’t. I don’t have time for that,” Andrew replied coolly.
“Deal.” Alyssa nodded in agreement, then sat back down and waited for him to finish his breakfast before they headed out together.
Tlas time, she played it smarter. Before they even reached the underground parking lot, she got out of the car and walked into the office on her own.
At the entrance, she ran into Tamera. “Ms. Dawson, did you come to work in a private car just now? I saw you, and it was a pretty nice Benz. It looked kind of familiar,” Tamera remarked with a curious smile.
Alyssa swallowed nervously. The last thing she wanted was for people to know she was getting rides from Andrew. If word got out, no matter what she achieved in the company, everyone would just say she was riding on his coattails. She didn’t need that kind of trouble.
So she quickly responded, “I was just carpooling.”
“Oh, carpooling. I thought it was someone from our company. Guess I was wrong.” Tamera laughed, linking her arm with Alyssa’s as they walked inside together.
Alyssa felt a bit uncomfortable with the sudden closeness, especially since she wasn’t that familiar with Tamera.
She wanted to pull her hand away but felt it would be awkward. Just then, Cathy walked in from outside. She shot them a frosty glance before striding toward the elevator in her high heels.
Seeing Cathy’s attitude, Tamera rolled her eyes. “What’s she so stuck up about? She’s just a secretary without even a pass for the CEO’s private elevator, but she looks down on us. In the end, we’re all just working here–no one’s better than anyone else,”
Alyssa just smiled without saying much.
Alyssa headed to the 37th floor to clock in, then made her way to the design department.
After clocking in, she stopped by the restroom.
The moment she walked in, she saw Cathy standing at the sink, leaning on it with both hands. Her face was wet as if she had just splashed water on it, and she looked furious, glaring at herself in the mirror.
Instinctively, Alyssa stepped aside, intending to enter one of the stalls. But before she could, Cathy shot her a venomous look and snapped through clenched teeth, “Alyssa, you’re really something. Do you actually think humiliating me will help you climb up
the ladder?”
Alyssa was completely baffled. “What are you talking about?”
She thought, ‘What on earth is happening?‘ She had no clue what this was about.

“Last night, you promised me you wouldn’t say a word. So why did you go around blabbing?” Cathy demanded, her voice
laced with sarcasmi.
Alyssa blinked in confusion but quickly replied, “I didn’t tell anyone?
Cathy’s eyes narrowed in disbelief. “You’re still pretending? Last night, you were the only one who saw me take the stairs. If it wasn’t you, who else could it have been?”
Alyssa wanted to mention that Tamera had also seen it, but she didn’t want to drag, her into this. Pressing her lips together, she said, “All I can say is that it wasn’t me. Besides, I just started here and barely know anyone. Who would I even talk to?”
