The man’s tall form moved rhythmically, his low growls harmonizing with the woman’s soft moans, creating an intimate symphony in the dimly lit room.
Shana Robertson wasn’t sure if it was the allure of her chosen attire or the intensity of Henry Floyd’s. return from his business trip.
However, his touch tonight held an unfamiliar tenderness, a fleeting whisper of love.
Afterward, a playful mood lingered.
Henry carried her to the bathroom, their shared bath an unexpected delight.
Back in bed, he didn’t immediately leave, as was his custom. Summoning her courage, Shana turned, nestling against his chest.
Her fingers danced on his skin. “Hubby,” she began, her voice husky with the remnants of their passion. “We’ve been married for three years. Grandpa believes it’s time we had a child,”
The gentle caress on her back ceased abruptly.
Henry’s gaze met hers, the warmth in his dark eyes evaporating, replaced by the familiar coldness… and a cruel hint of mockery.
“Shana, you think you’re worthy?”
His words pierced the illusion of intimacy, shattering the delicate peace they’d maintained for three long
years.
Henry pushed her away, reaching for his robe.
He stood by the bed, towering over her, his handsome features contorted in disdain.
“If you want to remain Mrs. Floyd, remember your place. No more of these games.”
Shana’s expression hardened. “Is it so unreasonable for me to want a child with my husband?”
“You can ask for most things, but I will repeat this only once. I will never have a child with you. Abandont
that notion.”
With that, he slammed the door, leaving her alone.
Shana lay modorless, staring at the ceiling until her eyes ached, then finally closing them.
His answer was unsurprising, yet a flicker of hope had persisted until this very moment. She had to ask. even knowing it would lead to humiliation.
Gathering her strength, she reached for her phone.
The headline news popped on her phone screen. “Famous Pianist Kate Carroll Spotted Leaving OB–GYN

with her mystery boyfriend!”
The internet buzzed with speculation about her pregnancy and an impending wedding.
Beside the article was a silhouette of the mystery boyfriend.
Shana’s heart constricted.
Even reduced to a shadow, she recognized Henry.
He didn’t object to fatherhood; he simply refused to share it with her.
The title of Mrs. Floyd had come at a steep price.
Orphaned at ten, Shana had been raised by her uncle, who treated her as his own.
Three years ago, his business teetered on the edge of collapse. He’d wasted away, and her aunt’s pleas had grown increasingly desperate.
In this moment of crisis, Duncan Floyd offered a lifeline. His bond with Shana’s grandfather, Neal Robertson, forged in the crucible of war, ran deep.
If she married into the Floyd family, their financial woes would vanish.
Under the weight of her uncle’s unspoken plea, Shana agreed.
But Henry was absent from their marriage registration There was no wedding, no homecoming on their wedding night.
Only later did she learn that he’d already proposed to his beloved Kate.
However, their plans were thwarted by his disapproving father.
Everyone assumed she’d married for wealth and power, but only Shana knew the truth.
She loved Henry.
Sadly, his heart remained closed to her after three years, while Kate’s presence loomed large.
The next day, Shana emerged from the master bedroom.
Her makeup was impeccable and her expression was carefully neutral. Judy Horton, the housekeeper. approached, her face etched with concern.
Hesitantly, she held out a box. ‘Mrs. Floyd, Mr. Floyd said that since… no precautions were taken last night, to prevent any… complications, you should take this.”
The box of morning–after pills felt like a cruel blow, stripping away the last trace of her dignity.
Judy saw Shana sway, but she quickly regained her composure.
Without a word, she took the box. She popped out a pill and swallowed it dry..
Her movements were swift and resolute as she spoke, “Are you satisfied?”
