This was the first time one of Shana’s evaluations had been rejected.
She frowned, her delicate eyebrows knitting together.

Larry’s voice came through, sounding nervous and apologetic. “Sorry to call so late, Madam. But Mr. Floyd has had too much to drink and insists that you come to pick him up. Could you please come over?”
If this were before, she would have jumped out of bed, thrown on clothes, and rushed out the door, afraid that any delay might upset Henry
Back then, she’d see every chance to pick him up as a special moment. She’d think that if he was drunk and called her instead of Kate, it meant he must have some feelings for her.
Looking back now, she couldn’t help but think she was being totally ridiculous..

Then she hung up and turned off her phone.

But just half an hour after she lay down, the phone rang again, cutting through the quiet night with e jarring sound.

Cheryl picked up the call in a huff, but then quickly turned sweet, handing the phone to Shana and saying softly, “Henry says you need to go pick him up.”
Shana bit her lip hard, took the phone, and got up, quietly closing the door behind her.
“Sc*m… Henry, what do you want now?” Her voice shook with frustration.
“Come downstairs. Now.”
His deep voice was a bit hoarse from drinking, sounding both soothing and demanding as always
