Chapter 3 Shameless.
At 2 AM, Cheryl Harvey was startled awake by a knock on her door.
Confused and slightly alarmed at the late hour, she cautiously approached the door with a baseball bat in
hand.
Pecking through the peephole, her heart skipped a beat.
It was Shana! She was looking disheveled and distraught
Cheryl quickly opened the door and questioned, “Were you mugged? Or am I dreaming?”
Shana’s messy hair, disarrayed clothes, and the faint traces of dried blood on her pants painted a picture of someone who had just escaped a harrowing experience.
But Shana simply smiled. She revealed her dimples and said casually, “Cheryl, I need a place to crash!”
Half an hour later, Shana emerged from the bathroom, and Cheryl handed her a glass of milk.
As Shana took the milk, Cheryl sipped on some red wine, her eyes lingering on Shana’s obviously swollen. eyes. “Did you have another fight with Henry?” she inquired.
Though Shana held the warm milk in her hands, a chill still ran down her spine.
As she calmly recounted the events of the night, Cheryl’s composure shattered.
She slammed the table, her voice rising several octaves, “What? Henry actually did something so despicable like that?! How could he call himself a man?
She raged, questioning how Henry could enjoy being a cuckold.
Shana tugged at the corner of her mouth, remaining silent.
Cheryl’s gaze returned to Shana. It was no wonder she was in such a state tonight. Ever since marrying into the Floyd family, Shana had always strived to please them and protect Henry’s reputation by presenting a gentle and elegant image in public.
She never allowed anyone to see her in an unflattering light.
Cheryl’s anger continued to simmer. “That scumbag! That b*stard! If you hadn’t saved him back in the countryside, he’d be pushing up daisies by now. But he turns around and forgets you, only thinking about that mistress,” she fumed.
“And Kate is even more shameless. She knows full well that scumbag is a married man, yet she clings to him like a leech. I’ve never seen anyone so shameless in my life!”
Shana’s thoughts drifted back to her first encounter with Henry.
While everyone believed they met after their engagement, the truth was different.
After her parents‘ death, Shana spent some time living with her grandmother in the countryside.

It was there that she met Henry, who was recuperating from a heart condition.
Fatefully, she saved his life, and he promised to always remember her.
When Duncan proposed marriage, Shana believed it was Henry’s wish too.
However, three years of marriage had shattered that illusion.
By the time Shana snapped back to reality, Cheryl was still ranting, her anger escalating. Shana found it somewhat amusing.
The Floyds and the Harveys were closely connected; Cheryl’s mother, Olivia Marsh, was Duncan’s. goddaughter, making Cheryl Henry’s god–sister.
Shana had complained about Henry and Kate to Chery countless times before, but Cheryl had always been restrained in her criticism.
“Shana, are you out of your mind? How can you still sindle?”
Cheryl exclaimed, bewildered by Shana’s reaction.
After a long silence, Shana sighed. I’m not even angry anymore.
Sitting on the steps, the cold night wind washing over her, any remnants of her lovesick heart seemed to have vanished.
Cheryl fell silent, downing her glass of wine in one gulp.
She then asked tentatively. “So… you really want to divorce Henry?
“Are you just going to give up? Let Kate, that shameless mistress, win? Are you really okay with that?”
Shana let out a small chuckle, murmuring. “In everyone’s eyes, I’m the third wheel between them.”
But then she shrugged indifferently. “I’ve been playing the fool for three years. Everyone’s been waiting to see when I’d get kicked out. I might as well take the initiative.
“If Kate likes picking up my leftovers, let her. There are plenty of men out there!”
At the Floyd residence.
Dawn broke, and Henry entered the house, carrying the morning’s chill with him.
Judy greeted lum, taking his coat and asking. “Mr. Floyd, what would you like for breakfast?”
Henry had just returned from a week–long business trip, and a nearly ten–hour flight had left him with a slight headache and little appetite.
“Nothing,” he replied, changing his shoes and walking in Glancing at the empty dining room, he asked, “Where’s Mrs. Floyd? Still asleep?”
Judy’s expression shifted. “Mrs. Floyd isn’t home.

Meanwhile, Shana had been on a week–long bender. Ever since marrying Henry, she’d tried to mold herself to please him.
She’d adopted his early–to–bed, early–to–rise schedule just to have breakfast together.
She’d given up spicy food, which she loved, to accommodate his preference for bland dishes.
She’d tried to feign interest in Eldaric literature, art exhibitions, operas, and sports–all things he enjoyed. but she found pretentious.
In reality, she was a night owl who loved staying up late watching dramas, reading novels, and indulging in fried chicken and beer.
She enjoyed going out with friends, shopping, and clubbing, embracing the excitement and fun.
Last night, she’d partied until the wee hours.
It felt like she’d just closed her eyes when her phone started ringing relentlessly.
She repeatedly pressed the hang–up button, but the calls persisted.
Finally, she answered, irritation lacing her voice.
“Who is it?” she snapped, annoyed at being disturbed.
“Where are you?”
The man’s voice, sharp as a shard of ice, pierced through the phone, sending a shiver down her spine.
