Bryson choked up at her words and averted his gaze, not daring to look her in the eye. “Rogelio is your younger brother. What’s wrong with helping you brother out?”
Dorothy tried her best not to cry. “It’s your duty to raise him, not mine.”

Trembling in anger, Bryson didn’t slap her again.
“Calm down, Bryson.” Gianna finally came back to her senses and pulled Bryson aside. Then she walked over to Dorothy and said, “Dottie, don’t upset Bryson anymore. Rogelio is in real trouble this time–he’s in custody now. Bryson and I figured that maybe you can talk to Dwayne and ask him to pull some strings to get Rogelio out.”
Dorothy’s last trace of hope in them was gone.
Even at this point, all they cared about was still Rogelio.
