Chapter 14: Jake Won’t Marry You
“Riley, don’t you have any questions?”
Riley paused. What should she ask? Why had he promised to wait for her but broken his word? Why had he gone abroad? Why had he gotten married? Why had he lied to her? The brave Riley of the past had been eroded by time. She struggled to get rid of him.“Le…let go of me.”
Seeing her resistance, Liam sighed. He was too impulsive. He released her wrist, his gaze falling on the bandage on her finger.
“Does your finger still hurt?”
Riley looked down at her finger. The bandage was clearly for a child. A bitter feeling washed over her.
“Riley,” Liam ruffled her hair. “I’m talking to you. Answer me.”
Riley was speechless. She wasn’t a child, why would he talk to her like that? She slapped his hand away, glaring at him.“I’m not a child anymore!”
Liam saw the lively girl return. His eyebrows lifted; he seemed amused. Riley glared at him, even angrier. She tried to open the car door, but it was locked. She turned to Liam, snapping, “Unlock the door. I’m getting out.”
Liam smirked. She hadn’t changed at all. He unlocked the door. Riley quickly got out and headed towards the gate.
“Riley,” Liam called her from behind.
Riley stopped, turning and glaring.“What now?”
Liam stood before her.“I don’t have your WhatsApp.”
Before she could say no, he held out his phone.“Friend me.”
Seeing his determination, Riley complied.“Fine.”
She friended him, and he smiled contentedly. Looking at her, he said playfully, “You’ve really grown up.”
Riley glared at him. He was obsessed with treating her like a child.
She glared at him and walked towards the gate. Liam watched her go, his gaze lingering until his phone rang. It was a business call, which he ended quickly.
He got back in the car. The driver asked, “Mr. Fowler, are you going back to Fowler residence tonight?”
“To the office.”
On her way back to the dorm, Riley received a message from Liam.
“Girl, have a good rest. Goodnight!”
She stared at the
at the message for a few seconds before putting away her phone. Back at the dorm, she saw Ava in the hallway. Ava’s dorm was in a different building. Riley tried to ignore her, but Ava stopped her.

Riley smirked confidently “Jake won’t marry you. Don’t waste your time on him. He’s not worth it.”
She entered the dorm, leaving, Ava standing there. Ava clutched her bag, unwilling to give up. She wouldn’t give up on Jake. She’d become the exception.
Ava came back to her dorm, her roommate teased her.“Ava, where’s your boyfriend? When Jake was chasing, her, he sent her flowers and luxury goods and came to pick her up everyday. Her

Ava hesitated.“He’s busy at work.”
“Oh, I thought you broke up,”
“We didn’t!” Ava yelled. Her roommates were probably hoping Jake to dump her. She wouldn’t let that happen.
She called Jake.“Honey, do you miss me?”
His voice was indifferent.“What is it, Ava?”
Ava sniffled, feigning hurt.“Honey, we haven’t seen each other for days. Don’t you miss your hittle sweetheart?” She’d been calling him constantly, and his responses were always cold and dismissive.
“I’m busy, darling.”
“You always say that! My roommates think we broke up.” She regretted saying that immediately. “Honey, are you mad?” she whispered cautiously,
Jake’s voice was gentle.“No, I ordered milk tea for you and your roommates. I’m busy now, but I’ll zome to you when I’m free. Be good.”
Ava’s heart settled.
“Okay, take care of yourself. I love you.” “Eove you too. Gotta go.”
