Chapter 7 She’s Mad at Me
Chapter 7: She’s Mad at Me
“Miss Aldrin, Mrs. Perry wants to see you.”
The butler of the Perry family approached. Riley, without looking back at Liam, followed him
As Riley entered, she got a slap in the face. Gina Perry, despite her disdain, maintained her
composure.
Riley, you’ve disappointed me,” she said. “I thought you were different, that you could at least control my son.”
“Look at him, bringing that girl home, talking about marrying her. We Perrys will never accept someone from her background.
Riley knew what Gina valued: family lineage. Her disapproval of Ava wasn’t surprising Riley said calmly, Mrs. Perry, Jake and I are over.”
Gina’s face darkened. She scoffed. “Over? Then I’m pulling my investment from your family. Don’t expect another dime from the Perrys. Think carefully.”
Riley lowered her gaze. She’d seen this coming since agreeing to Gina’s deal. The Perrys were an esteemed family, but Gina wanted her son to pursue a career in politics, which was much harder than inheriting the family business. A clean background spanning three generations was
necessary.
Jake, however, had a notoriously messy personal life. Several women had claimed pregnancies and demanded him to take responsibility. Gina Perry, powerful and refined, didn’t want to confront her son directly. The moment she learned about Riley, she had her investigated. Her son, rebellious, strangely obeyed Riley. That was why Gina had kept Riley around
Initially, Gina had been blunt. Riley wasn’t worthy of Jake, but there was one condition for her to stay with him: to keep him from causing trouble that could harm his prospects. In return, the Perrys would invest in Riley’s struggling family business. Riley had agreed.
She knew Jake didn’t like her, and this was a win–win situation for her. However, Gina had secretly told Jake that Riley was only interested in their money, warning him not to fall in love with her. Gina worried that Jake would
would one day refuse to let Riley go.
Riley found that concern excessive. She and Jake had no future. Even when he became excessively mean to her, she remained silent. At least he hadn’t committed any illegal acts, are Mrs. Perry hadn’t held her accountable.
Jake bringing Ava home and talking about marrying her was unacceptable to Gina. She couldn’t control her son, but she could still reprimand Riley.
“Mrs. Perry, Jake cares about Ava. This is different. And he never liked me. You’ve always known that.”
Gina sneered. “You have self–awareness at least.”
Riley remained silent.
Gina continued, “I checked on Ava. She’s
‘But I…
not good enough for
enough for my son‘
Before she could finish, Gina said, “I know a top neurologist abroad.” Filey lowered her gaze. Mrs. Perry knew how to manipulate her.
Chapter 7: She’s Mad at Me
Rifey felt conflicted. She wanted nothing to do with Jake, but she also couldn’t ignore her family
Peter and Liam walked out of the Perry mansion as night fell. A cold wind swept in, making Peter shiver.
“Damn, it’s freezing. It might snow.”
He noticed Liam was lost in thought. “Dude, what are you staring at?”
Liam’s gaze rested on a girl sitting at a bus stop.
He said, “Take off your jacket.”
Peter was stunned.“What did you say?”
Liam finally looked at him.“Your jacket. Take it off.”
Peter clutched his suit jacket, wary.“Liam, I’m straight. Don’t even think about it. You’re Handsome, tall, and muscular, but I like curvy girls,..”
Liam ignored him and took off his jacket. Peter backed away.“I’m warning you… I’m really…” Liam reached for Peter’s jacket. Peter went from resisting to reluctantly complying “My shirt…that’s my limit. And can we get a hotel room first?”
Liam finally understood Peter’s hesitation. He kicked him.“Are you crazy? I’m asking you to give her the jacket.”
He tossed his jacket to Peter.
Peter was mortified. He’d almost given in. If word got out… his reputation was ruined! Liam urged impatiently, “Come on.”
Peter saw the girl sitting alone at the bus stop. He walked towards Riley without a word, holding Liam’s jacket.
Riley stood up to leave when she saw Peter.
“Hey, wait.”
Riley stopped, looking at Peter. He handed her the jacket.“It’s going to snow. You’ll catch a cold.”
Riley paused.“Will I get AIDS?”
“What?”
“Will I get AIDS if I wear your jacket?”
Peter cursed Liam in mind again.
He was furious.“Liam was talking nonsense. I’m a good man. I’m still a virgin.‘
Riley looked at him in disbelief.
Peter threw the jacket at her. “Take it. I’m leaving. Don’t thank me.” He turned and left before she could refuse. The bus arrived, she boarded, clutching the jacket.
Peter approached Liam’s
car. He knocked on the window. It rolled down.
Liam gave Peter’s jacket back to him.
Peter got in.“Dude, you care about her, right? Why so roundabout? Just take her home!” He sheered.“You suck at women.”
