The familiar electronic voice jolted Jake back to reality. Riley had blocked him. How could she? What should he do now?
There was a knock on the door. The maid’s voice followed.
“Mr. Jake, Mrs. Perry sent me with your hangover soup.”
Jake roared,“Get out!”
The maid looked hesitantly at Gina. She took the bowl.“I’ll take it. Go rest. It’s late.” Gina entered, seeing Jake in bed.“Get up and wash your face. You look like a mess.” Jake sneered.“Yeah, you want a proper, obedient son, not me.”
Gina sighed, softening her tone.“Drink the soup. It’ll help.”
Jake sat up reluctantly and took the bowl. As he brought it to his lips, Gina said, “Jake, arranged marriages in high society are for family interests. I don’t want you to marry someone who can’t help you,‘cause you’ll regret it.”
Jake paused.
She continued, “Anna Flower, neither her family nor her education is perfect for us. There’s nothing wrong with dating her. And if you marry her, you can keep Ava or whoever else you want. I won’t object.” In high society, as long as the wife was secure, who cared about the other
women?
Jake scoffed.“Like Dad, right?”
Gina’s face fell. Jake continued, “I’ll go on Riley returned to her dorm and found Chloe packing. Riley glanced at her suitcase.“Moving out?”
the date. It’s late. Good night.”
Chloe nodded.“Yeah, it’ll be easier to commute to work, and we don’t have much coursework now.” Her eyes fell on the jacket on Riley’s wrist. She smirked.“Did you get back together with Jake?”
Riley paused.“No.”
Chloe pointed at the jacket.“Then what’s with the jacket?”
Riley thought of Liam. He was married. Her heart ached.
“Riley, are you listening? I’m talking to you,” Chloe nudged her.
Riley snapped back to attention.“It’s a friend’s.”
Chloe was intrigued. “This friend sounds important.”
Riley was puzzled.“What?”
Chloe gestured at the jacket. “This is high–end custom–made, worth over seven figures.” Riley
was surprised.“That expensive?” She hadn’t planned to return it; Peter wouldn’t mind. But it was that expensive?
Seeing her expression, Chloe teased.“You didn’t know that?”
Riley shook her head faintly.

Chloe smirked.“Do you like him?”
Riley’s mouth twitched.“What?”

“Look, he gave you a seven–figure jacket. He’s definitely interested in you.” Riley felt the jacket getting hot. She barely knew Peter, but had heard about his romantic history. He couldn’t be seriously interested in her. No way. She needed to return him the jacket and make it clear.
Her phone rang. It was an unknown number.
She hesitated, then answered.
“Hello?”
“Riley, it’s me, Peter.”
Riley’s eyelashes fluttered. She responded softly.
Peter asked, “Are you at school?”
Thinking of Chloe’s words, Riley didn’t question how he got her number. She said, “Mr. Brown, thank you for the jacket. Are you free tomorrow? I’ll return it.”
Peter, hearing her distant tone, glanced at the man in the driver’s seat. Liam nodded subtly.
Peter said, “Sure, tomorrow at noon, at Ocean Breeze.”
Riley nodded.“Okay, I’ll be there on time.”
After hanging up, Chloe leaned in.“The jacket’s owner?” Riley nodded.
Chloe teased.“Go get him.”
“Don’t be silly, I don’t like that type.”
Chloe scoffed.“What type do you
like? Jake? Seriously? You wasted three years on him.
“Don’t mention him. We’re over.”
“I don’t believe you. You said it more than once, yet you rushed to him when he Riley couldn’t

Seeing her downcast, Chloe linked arms with her and grinned.“Hey, remember George Keller?” Riley raised an eyebrow.“What about him?”
“He’s back, and he asked about you.”
Riley didn’t react much.“Oh.”
Chloe nudged her.“George is pretty great too. Why didn’t you choose him?”
Riley remained silent.
Chloe continued, “Riley, listen to me. There are plenty of fish in the sea. If one doesn’t work out,
get a new one.”
Riley looked at her.“Did you get a new one?”
Chloe grinned mysteriously.“Yep.”

That was ridiculous.

Chloe’s last relationship had been only a month, and that man was eight years older than her. She’d said older men provided security.
“What about your older boyfriend? You broke up?”
Chloe winked.“I prefer younger men now.”
Riley was curious. “Then how old is your younger boyfriend?”
Chloe laughed mischievously.“As long as you stay young, younger men are always around. Gotta go, my puppy boyfriend is waiting for me.” Grabbing her suitcase, she left the dorm. With Chloe gone, Riley felt lonely. She needed to find a place soon.
The next day, Riley arrived at the restaurant. Seeing the man inside, she paused. She hadn’t expected Liam to be there. She’d thought about him for years. But now, she didn’t want to see him. Knowing he was married made her chest tighten.
She took a deep breath, composed herself, and approached them.
