After Rachel sat down, she noticed the table was set with pristine silverware and fine china, accompanied by two crystal wine glasses and a bottle of 1982 Bordeaux
She was surprised by Cassian’s thoughtful attention to detail. She’d assumed they were just going out for a regular dinner, not that he’d planned such an elaborate surprise.
Suddenly, like a magician, Cassian retrieved a large bouquet of red roses from a nearby table. He approached her with a smile. “These are for you. Do you like them?”
Rachel’s eyes widened as she accepted the bouquet, her heart racing with excitement. Was this the first time he’d ever given her flowers?
She breathed in their fragrance deeply–the scent was intoxicating.
“I love them,” she said shyly.
Looking up, she met his gaze. His eyes were like black obsidian, almost magnetic in their intensity. One look and she felt like she could get lost in them forever.
Cassian’s eyes crinkled with amusement. “I’m glad you like them. Let’s enjoy dinner.”
Soon, the server brought out two perfectly prepared Kobe ribeye steaks. Rachel admired the beautifully plated dish–seared to perfection on the outside, tender within, and emanating an irresistible aroma.
She gracefully picked up her knife and fork, cutting a small piece and savoring the first bite. The meat was incredibly tender and juicy, melting on her tongue with subtle smoky notes that lingered beautifully.
Noticing her satisfied expression, Cassian asked softly, “How is it?”
Rachel nodded, her eyes sparkling with contentment. “It’s delicious.”
Cassian smiled and raised his wine glass, swirling the burgundy liquid gently. “To us meeting each other,” he toasted.
Rachel lifted her glass to meet his with a delicate clink. She took a sip of the wine, letting the rich, complex flavors–notes of dark fruit and oak–wash over her palate.
She was puzzled by Cassian’s unusually romantic behavior tonight. This didn’t seem like his typical style.
Seeing her lost in thought, Cassian asked, “Everything okay?”
‘What made you think of planning a date tonight?” Rachel couldn’t help asking.
‘We’re married–we should be romantic sometimes,” Cassian replied simply.
Rachel suddenly remembered the trending scandal from earlier. She asked carefully, “Is this because of the gossip today?”
Was he feeling guilty and trying to make up for it with this date?
Cassian paused, realizing she really had seen the news.
He explained openly, “That was just paparazzi nonsense. Sonia and I are just friends. She had some trouble yesterday and called me when I happened to be nearby.”
This was his explanation.
Rachel’s heart sank, and suddenly the delicious steak lost its appeal. Her mood darkened.
Maybe Cassian didn’t have ulterior motives, but Sonia clearly did. Her provocative behavior at the office had made that obvious.
But if Cassian hadn’t given her opportunities, how could Sonia be so bold?
Chapter 110
Rachel wanted to say more but stopped herself. Given the nature of their marriage arrangement, what right did she have to complain?
Finally, she forced a smile. “I understand.”
To hide her disappointment, she focused on cutting her steak.
Seeing that she didn’t pursue the topic further, Cassian felt relieved. His conscience was clear, so he didn’t overthink it.
However, he still didn’t fully understand women’s emotions, leaving an invisible barrier between them.
Still, Rachel managed to console herself. At least Cassian had made an effort.
