Chapter 68
Chapter 68
When everyone heard Mrs. Connor’s words, they were absolutely floored.
Holy shit! Who would have thought that dark piece of wood had such an incredible backstory?
This was completely mind–blowing.
Everyone was staring at Rachel with total amazement.
Nobody had expected that Rachel would have the connections to actually get her hands on something like this.
They’d all come here ready to watch some drama, but it turned out they, were the ones who looked like complete morons for not recognizing quality.
Patricia slipped the bracelet onto her wrist and nodded with satisfaction. “This is from my granddaughter, and it’s the most precious gift I’ve ever received. I wouldn’t sell it to anyone.”
Mrs. Connor burst out laughing. “Mrs. Campbell, you are one lucky lady!”
Rachel smiled slightly and kept quiet.
Her cool confidence had all the guests doing double–takes, and people were already starting to gossip.
Everyone was realizing Rachel had serious money and looks.
Valeria’s face scrunched up as she asked, “Ana, where exactly did you get this thing?”
She was clearly suspicious–could Rachel really have the resources to score something this valuable?
Rachel answered casually, “I had someone source it for me.”
Ronan was a wizard at finding rare stuff–he could track down the most impossible things.
This grade of agarwood was like finding a unicorn, though Rachel had dealt with plenty of high–end items before.
She just hadn’t expected to run into such clueless people. If Mrs. Connor hadn’t been there, she probably would’ve been screwed trying to explain herself today.
With that explanation, nobody wanted to keep pushing.
After that, everyone went back to partying, eating and drinking.
Whitney gave Valeria a meaningful look.
Valeria immediately got the message.
They had a special little “surprise” waiting for Rachel.
Rachel hadn’t eaten much today and was getting pretty hungry.
She grabbed a piece of cake and started nibbling on it.
Right then, a maid walked by carrying a tray.
The tray was loaded with glasses of red wine.
The maid seemed to be moving fast and suddenly lost her footing, stumbling forward as the wine went flying straight at Rachel.
Rachel had quick reflexes and dodged sideways, but some of the wine still splashed all over her dress.
Her crisp white dress was instantly stained dark red.
The maid looked absolutely terrified and immediately started groveling. “Oh my guest room so you can get cleaned up.”
Looking at her dress, which was completely trashed, Rachel finally nodded. “Fine.”
The white fabric made the stains way too obvious.
The maid led Rachel to a guest room in the back wing. “Miss, just wait here a sec. I’ll grab some stuff to help you clean that up.”
After saying that, the maid left and made sure to close the door behind her.
Standing there alone, Rachel suddenly frowned as she caught a weird smell in the air. She immediately went on high alert, quickly holding her breath to avoid breathing in whatever sketchy substance this was.
“Fuck!” Rachel thought to herself, instantly realizing she’d walked straight into a setup.
