Chapter 25
ALESSANDRO’S
“Can we please talk about something else?” I said frustrated as my parents decided to talk about the same topic for the
thousandth time.
We sat in our gigantic dining room together, eating dinner at a large table that was located right in the middle of the room. It was kind of our tradition to eat at least once a week together. So, that we could spend some time together and
update each other on specific projects or simply about what was going on in our lifes.
It sounded like a sweet get together, but I used to hate these lately. My parents were quite desperate to finally see me with a child, grand heir, which sucked.
My mother was a gorgeous 49–year–old woman with short raven–black hair, streaked with the faintest touch of silver, which was styled in an elegant updo. She looked fairly young. It’s just the little wrinkles around her eyes that gave away.

“Alessandro, your father and I are worried about your future,” She is the one who started the conversation as we ate in
silence.
“I don’t quite understand what there is to be worried about?!” I retorted taking a sip of red wine, before putting the glass back on the table. “Everything works great, we’ve completed every mission with success and I dealt with the debt with Dimitri by marrying his son, So, what is it that keeps you awake at night?”
My parents stared at each other for a while before my dad, a 50–year–old tall and bulky man with his salt–and–pepper hair slicked back flawlessly, started talking.
“It’s your reputation that worries us, you were supposed to marry his twin sister not him” He explained with a low voice.
I felt rage bubbling up inside of me. We had this discussion so many times already and they still didn’t get my point.
“My reputation?” I repeated, setting my fork down with a little too much force. The sound echoed through the dining room, but neither of my parents flinched. “I did what was necessary to secure our position. The contract was fulfilled. What does it matter if it was his sister or him?”
My mother let out a delicate sigh, dabbing her mouth with a napkin before meeting my gaze. “Alessandro, you know very well that it matters,” she said, her voice deceptively soft. “People are talking. They’re questioning your… choices. You may
have secured the alliance, but at what cost?”
I could feel the heat rising in my chest, a slow burn of irritation. “The cost? You mean my dignity?” I let out a humorless laugh. “Forgive me if I don’t see an issue with making a personal sacrifice for the family. Isn’t that what you and Father always taught me?”
My father’s fingers drummed against the table, his piercing gaze locking onto mine. “A sacrifice is one thing, but inviting weakness into our home is another. A husband is not a wife, Alessandro. He will not bear you an heir. He will not secure our lineage.”
My grip on the stem of my wine glass tightened. “First of all, I don’t care what others think about me. Second of all, having a child at my current age is dangerous especially in a mafia and you also know it. It makes me stronger that I am alone, because I can’t be blackmailed. And third of all, I don’t even have any female right now I’m interested in,” I pointed out angrily, but while mom looked at me with a sad stare, dad looked clearly unimpressed.

Chapter 25
I swear, this man was unswayable. The moment he put his mind on something, he’ll make it happen no matter what others felt or said. It was a character trait on him I always despised.
“You think strength comes from being alone?” he mused, swirling the wine in his glass lazily. “That’s your first mistake, Alessandro. No king rules without a queen. No empire survives without an heir.”
I clenched my jaw. “And yet, our empire is thriving,” I shot back. “With me at the helm. No. wife. No child. Just results.
My sighed, setting down her fork with slow precision. “For now,” she murmured. “But what happens when you’re no longer untouchable? When enemies see a man with no family as a man with no future?”
