Chapter 23
The moment he stepped into the elevator, the air around him seemed to drop to its lowest point.
When he wasn’t looking at anyone, he resembled a serene Buddhist monk. But when his gaze fell on someone, it was dangerous and demonic.
“Go on, speak,” he said coldly.
The hospital director wiped the sweat from his forehead and nervously called out, “Young Master Jenkins, don’t worry. Our Dr. Adler is an expert in this field. With her treating Mr. Cromwell, there’s absolutely no problem!”
The person who could make so many important figures nervous wasn’t anyone else but Carl, the head of the Jenkins family.
Carl casually twirled the Buddhist beads on his wrist, raising an eyebrow slightly. “That’s not what I’ve heard.”
“Y… Young Master Jenkins, we- we haven’t lied to you.” The vice director was now stuttering. “We wouldn’t dare delay Mr. Cromwell’s condition. After all, that’s the Cromwell family!”
Carl didn’t speak further but stood tall and straight, waiting

for the elevator to reach the 6th floor. The longer he stood like that, the more his presence seemed to weigh down on
everyone.
The hospital director’s legs were beginning to wobble.
When the elevator finally arrived, Young Master Jenkins made
them exit first.
They understood this was to keep his identity hidden. But no one could explain why Dr. Adler wasn’t in the emergency
room.
Carl stopped in his tracks, his gaze falling on the attending doctor in the emergency room who was removing the needles. His voice was cold as ice, “Wasn’t Dr. Adler supposed to be the one performing the procedure? Who is she?”
The person standing by the bed wore a medical mask and cap. The way she removed the needles was swift and precise, the technique clearly professional. But from her exposed eyes, it was easy to see that she was young.
“She… she…” The vice director wiped his sweat, almost terrified to the point of speechlessness, unable to come up with a reasonable explanation.
The hospital director couldn’t hold it in anymore and stormed over, grabbing Dr. Adler, his voice trembling. “Dr. Adr, why aren’t you in the emergency room? Why is this little girl the

Dr. Adler, seeing the director approach, initially looked pleased but quickly said, “Director Luke, I was just about to report this. Dr. Hart was too bold. The patient’s family hasn’t signed the consent form yet, but he brought an outsider to diagnose and treat!”
At this point, the director wasn’t interested in hearing excuses. Knowing that Young Master Jenkins was watching, he couldn’t hold back and shouted, “I’m asking you why you’re not in the emergency room!”
“The family hasn’t signed the consent form. Besides, it’s just an ordinary case. There’s no need for me to personally treat it.” Dr. Adler responded dismissively, practically flaunting her disdain by implying the patient’s poverty.
The director was livid, his blood rushing to his head. “Ordinary case? You’re calling him an ordinary case? Evelyn, have you lost your mind? That’s the Cromwell family from New York! Mr. Cromwell!”
The New York Cromwell family… Mr. Cromwell…
Every word hit Dr. Adler like a bomb, and she stumbled backward, her head spinning as she collapsed onto the floor.
“How could this be… how could this happen…”

Dr. Adler’s regret was so deep it nearly consumed her. Her eyes turned to the emergency room.
She had let such a great opportunity slip away to a little girl.
If she had saved Mr. Cromwell… then…
Bang!
The more Dr. Adler thought about it, the more agitated she became, and she suddenly collapsed, having a stroke on the spot.
The director was fed up and ordered the nurses to carry her
out.
Inside the emergency room, Amelia, having finished treating the patient, wiped her hands with alcohol cotton pads. Suddenly, she turned her head and looked through the glass.
Carl was standing there, casually leaning against the wall. His deep, dark eyes were locked onto her, and he wore a pair of gold–rimmed glasses that only added to his ethereal yet dangerous appearance.

Since earlier, Amelia had felt someone’s gaze on her, and now, she was proven right.
The intensity of her gaze seemed to draw his attention, and
Carl slightly raised an eyebrow, tilting his head ever so slightly.
Their gazes met in a subtle, almost charged connection…
