Chapter 436
He was like a furious panther, his eyes a fiery red as he stared down his new wife. Mrs. Dawson could feel trouble brewing and took a shaky step back.
As she retreated, Griffin moved closer. He was like a lion, angry and cornering its prey. “Explain these photos to me!” he demanded. Mrs. Dawson’s eyes dropped to the photos, and her face went as white as a sheet. “Honey, please let me explain.”
“He’s just a friend, an old college buddy. We’re from the same hometown, so we were a bit closer. After our son was born, he grew fond of him and offered to be his godfather. While you were away with Cameron, I was on my own, and he helped out with some heavy lifting. I called him a few times, he was always eager to lend a hand, so I invited him over for dinner… That’s all it was.”
Griffin’s face said it all–he wasn’t buying it. “A godfather? Really? I never thought my son would have a ‘godfather. If he didn’t have feelings for you, why would he help out of the blue?”
Mrs. Dawson backed up until she hit the wall, nowhere left to go, and pleaded, “Please, believe me, there’s nothing going on.” Suddenly, Justin barged in, pushing Griffin aside, his eyes blazing with anger. “Dad, how can you treat Mom like this? Do you even know how hard it was for her to raise me alone? You missed every moment of my childhood. If it weren’t for my godfather, we wouldn’t have survived.”
Seeing his son call another man “godfather” so warmly shattered Griffin. He lashed out, slapping Justin hard. “Ungrateful! I loved you, built up wealth for you, even at the cost of another brilliant son. Yet, you’re so close to your mom’s so–called lover.”
Justin clutched his cheek, glaring at Griffin with pure hatred. “You call that love? Is love making me a bastard? Letting me be the laughingstock at school? Is love making me a scandal, leaving me to hang my head in shame?”
Griffin wasn’t the only one embarrassed; Mrs. Dawson’s expression darkened too.
Griffin stumbled onto the couch, covering his face as tears poured out. “What did I do to deserve this? I thought if I planned everything perfectly for you, I’d earn your respect. But all you remember is being made as a mistress and a bastard. If I’d known it would end like this, I wouldn’t have torn apart my own family.”
John shook his head, walking up to Griffin to deliver yet another blow. “You’re completely wrong.”
He handed Griffin another envelope, this time forcing it into his hands. “Take a look,” John said with an air of mystery.
Griffin, shaking, opened the envelope to find a paternity test inside, which showed no biological link between him and the supposed
son.
I felt like lightning had struck him, leaving him stunned inside and out. After what felt like an eternity, he finally came to. Like a wild beast, he lunged at Mrs. Dawson, gripping her throat in a rage. “You bitch, you lied to me?”
