Chapter 10
Irene’s POV:
“Delores, how do you feel today?” I asked her the moment she walked into the kitchen area where we’ll be preparing everything for Damien’s wedding
“Much better. Thank you for giving me the day off yesterday. It helped me calm down so much. I can’t even imagine how Charlie must have felt.” She answered, taking the seat before me while dropping her bag beside her..
“I’m so glad to hear that. And thankfully, Charlic is fine. I just enrolled him in a kindergarten class that’s like a daycare as well. I don’t want him to come to work with us. The risks are too high for me.” I explained to her and she nodded in agreement.
“Aww that’s so good. We should have thought of that earlier. Delores said with her Spanish accent, lightly smacking her forehead.
“At least now, we have done what should be done. So we have just four days to get everything ready for their wedding.” I informed her.
“Yes, and I’m ready. Let’s make this a win.” She hooted, but I felt somehow knowing this was a wedding for my ex–husband and my hateful step–sister.
It was already a glaring fact. But it is not just something I could get used to.
However, that fact didn’t stop me from giving it my best. This was actually a last chance to save the catering brand I’ve been building for five years that things had gone wrong in the last job we had in Los Angeles.
If this wedding is a success, so will my business bounce back to its glory days.
Days went by so fast and so did all the preparations went so well. It was finally the day before the wedding. And I couldn’t wait for this all to be over and so I can pack my bags and go back to Los Angeles to continue my life.
I could already picture the guests that will be coming into the grand hall one after the other tomorrow. They will definitely look the part since most of them are millionaires and billionaires.
It will be a lovely sight. And what is usually more lovely is when I see these same guests eating the food I prepared with Delores. The satisfied looks on their faces always made me feel good.
I judge the success of my work on guest faces, not just by word of mouth. That expression their faces scrunch up to once they are eating a delicious food.
“Irene, someone said there’s an issue in the cold room. I think you need to go check it out now. Everything else is okay and ready for tomorrow,” Delores walked into the kitchen and informed me
“Who told you and what did they say is wrong?” I asked, worried that something might go wrong again after everything I’ve done to keep things in check and make sure it goes well
“It was
one of the interior decor people. They said the door wasnt closing or something.” Delores answered.
“But how am I supposed to fix that?” I hissed, “Please, help me arrange all these pots and plates to their rightful places. I’ll give it a check.” I told Delores, because I just finished doing the dishes.
“Sure.
If you can’t handle it, don’t do anything. Just come and well call someone that can help us.” Delores said to me.
“I’m just worried.” I confessed as I know she could always tell when I’m tense.
“I understand, Irene. But let’s stay positive. That’s really the best thing to do in this situation.” She pulled me in for a brief

hug
I thanked her then left for the cold room. I will ensure that everything goes as smoothly as possible for tomorrow’s wedding.
As I got to the cold room, I realized there was something wrong with the lock. So I stepped inside, and before I could even blink, I heard the door being shut from outside.
“Someone is in here. Don’t lock it.” I shouted immediately, banging on the metallic door.
“Open up, I’m in here.” 1 banged even harder, but it’s either the person didn’t hear me or they locked it on purpose.
Eva.
Was it her?
“I hope you freeze to death in there!” I heard her voice fatntly, and Icussed out loud immediately.
“1
“Irene?” I heard a familiar voice call me and I turned around to confirm that it was Damien standing beside me in the cold
room.
“Damien?” asked in surprise. Since that night at my apartment, he hadn’t reached out again. And I was grateful for that.
But what was this mess all of a sudden?
“What are you doing here?” He asked, walking closer to me.
“I. Should be asking you that. You have no business being in the cold room.” I answered, wondering what had brought himi
here.
If Eva set me up, there was no way she would have done it knowing that the man she is getting married to tomorrow will be stuck in her with me.
“I heard someone saying that
mething is wrong in here, so I came to check it. And it’s my wedding. I have the right to go over all the preparation to be sure it suits my taste.” He answered.
“I came here for that. But Eva locked me up on purpose thinking I’m in here alone.” I told him too.
“Eva?” He asked and I hummed a reply.
“We can’t be stuck here.” He said in a frantic tone.
“We can’t be stuck together. That’s the real problem.” I pointed out. Because I couldn’t stand him for any more moment.
left in this cold room.
And now we have to be breathing the same oxy
“Oh yeah, because of the reporters. Wow, you still look out for me.” Damien said, and moved even closer to me.
I shivered uncontrollably, the cold was settling into my bones and I was not wearing something very thick because I’ve been cooking.
And it gets hot when cooking.
“I am absolutely not looking out for you.” I deadpanned.
I turned around and started banging the thick metallic door and asking for help. I can’t be in the same room as Damien. I can’t let reporters get a whiff of the wrong and get us entangled.
And I certainly can’t be stuck here.
