Chapter 101

Irene’s POV

Damien’s voice, low and furious, hung in the air like a bomb about to explode. “Touch her one more time, and meet your grave instantly.”

For a moment, it was as if time had stopped. George blinked, his mouth moving silently as if he couldn’t quite process what had just been said. His eyes flicked to Damien, then to me, wide with shock and a flash of panic across his features. He knew he was trapped, but his arrogance made him think he could still talk his way out.

George stammered, his usual act couldn’t pull through. “Damien, this is a misunderstanding. Irene is just overreacting. I—”

Before he could finish his sentence, Damien grabbed him harshly by the collar, pushing him hard against the wall. The- sound of George’s body hitting the wall was almost satisfying, and I could see the raw fury blazing in Damien’s eyes.

“Did you happen to forget my warning?” Damien growled to his face like an alpha wolf dominating his territory, his voice barely above a whisper but it carried enough menace to send shivers down my spine.

“You don’t get to talk your way out of this. You don’t.” Damien said to him, still very much fuming.

“Let me go, man! You’re making a huge mistake!” George squirmed in Damien’s grip, his face turning red as he tried to free himself.

Damien snarled, his grip tightening. “No, you made the mistake when you thought you could lay a hand on Irene. My wife. You should have thought twice about it.”

I stood there, frozen, not sure of what to do or say. Part of me wanted to pull Damien back, to stop this before it escalated any further. But the other part of me that remembered George’s annoying advances, his slimy hands on my skin, and his irritable words wanted Damien to keep going.

But I didn’t want to let this spiral into violence. I needed to end this.

“Damien,” I said quietly, stepping forward but not too close. “It’s enough. Let him go.” I said, hoping he would listen.

Damien hesitated, his fists trembling with rage that was barely controlled, but finally, he loosened his grip and shoved George to the ground. George stumbled, his chest heaving and as he gasped for air, his face was filled with anger and humiliation.

“You’re both fucking crazy!” George spat, wiping at the blood trickling from his nose. “This isn’t over, Damien. I will-”

“You’ll what?” Damien cut him off, stepping closer to him. “You’ll call the police? And tell them how you tried to assault my wife? Yeah?” He growled.

Panic flashed across his face, and for the first time, I saw real fear behind his brave acts. He knew he was cornered. He had no way out. This time, I have an eyewitness.

Before George could say anything in response, the ‘sound of sirens cut through the air. I didn’t even know when Damien had dialed the police, I was too frozen to react or help myself. And now, they were here, Their Siren lights flashed a harsh glow over the driveway.

Soon after, two officers got out of the squad car, their eyes immediately scanning over the scene.

“What’s going on here?” one of the officers questioned, his hand resting on the holster at his side as he approached cautiously.

Damien straightened, keeping his eyes locked on George. “This man attempted to assault my wife,” he said, his voice hard but calm. “And this isn’t the first time.” I gasped, realizing that Danien must have figured out something because how did he

come to find out that this wasn’t the first time George would try something like this?

The officers didn’t say much except exchange knowing glances and turned to George, who was still on the ground, his face twisted in a mixture of fear and disbelief.

“I didn’t touch her!” George yelled, “She’s lying! They’re both lying!” He sounded so desperate. And I wasn’t going to let him slip away this time. It’s time I let things out.

I stepped forward, my voice trembling but firm. “Officers, this man has tried harassing me on two different occasions. Tonight, he tried to force me into something I didn’t want.” I explained to them.

One of the officers knelt down beside George, cuffing his hands behind his back. “You have the right to remain silent,” he began to recite the familiar words, but George wasn’t having it. He struggled against the officer’s grip, shouting profanities as they pulled him up to his feet.

“This isn’t over!” George yelled, his eyes wild as he looked between me and Damien. “I will make sure you both regret this!” He threatened and as much as he might have thought that it would affect me, it didn’t.

With Damien by my side, I felt almost invincible.

My desperation to get something off Eva was what gave him the chance to try something stupid like that.

He kept on shouting and threatening me, but his words were drowned out by the sound of the police radio crackling and the click of the handcuffs being secured. He continued to struggle against the officers as they led him toward the squad car, but it was clear his fight was over.

The front door simultaneously opened when they shoved George into the back seat of the car. I turned, thinking t was either Delores or fucking Eva, but it was Lenora standing there, her face instantly got pale and her eyes widened with shock.

“George?” she whispered, “What… what’s going on?” Her voice quaked.

Damn it. Lenora didn’t know. I never got the chance to tell her. I couldn’t tell her with all the games Eva has been playing constantly. So how could she know? George had hidden his true nature so well from everyone. Especially her, his fiancée.

“Lenora…” I began, but the words got stuck in my throat.

She looked from me to Damien, then to the police car where George was sitting, his head hanging low in either shame or rage. Her expression was a mixture of confusion and fear like she was standing in the middle of a nightmare she couldn’t wake up from.

“Why are they arresting him?” Lenora asked, her voice barely above a whisper. “What did George do to get arrested?” Tears brimmed her eyes as she looked longer at me, hoping I’d break her out of the nightmare she was suddenly stuck in.

“Lenora,” Damien stepped forward, his tone softening slightly, “George has been trying things with Irene,” he said carefully. “He tried to force himself on her. And he crossed the line tonight. I can’t let it go. I’m sorry.” He said to his sister and her eyes widened in more shock.

She shook her head as if refusing to believe it. “No,” she whispered, stepping back. “No, that’s not true. He wouldn’t. My George wouldn’t do that. He wouldn’t.” And I knew she wouldn’t believe it.

With how George acted around her, who would?

I exhaled a deep sigh, feeling the weight of everything pressing down on me. “I didn’t want to hurt you, Lenora. I didn’t want to ruin your relationship with him. But I can’t stay silent anymore. I should never have.” I told her, feeling so sad for her.

For a moment, Lenora just stood there, staring at me as if she didn’t recognize the world around her anymore. Then, slowly, she turned her gaze toward the squad car, where George sat, slumped and defeated. Her expression was like that of a crushed soul, and I saw the tears begin to spill down her cheeks,

“Lenora,” I said softly, reaching out to her. “I’m so sorry.”

But she shook her head, stepping back. “I- I need to be alone,” she whispered, stuttering, before turning and hurrying back into the house, the door closing behind her with a soft click.

I stood there in the fading light, feeling a strange mixture of relief and sadness wash over me. George was gone, at least for now. However, the damage he had done to me and to Lenora was far from over.

Damien wrapped an arm around me, pulling me closer into his embrace. “Are you okay?” he asked, his voice gentle.

“I will be. Eventually.” I nodded, leaning more into him. This would be the first time in a while that I would be like this with him since left the house.

We stood in the driveway in silence for a while, watching as the officers drove away, taking George with them. The night felt heavier, and the atmosphere got thicker with everything that had been left unsaid.

But one thing was clear: this wasn’t over. Not by a long shot. And, deep down, I have this feeling that George’s arrest is the beginning of the stormy wind that was coming to blow off our heads in a brutal way.
